Adapting structuration theory to understand the role of reflexivity: Problematization, clinical audit and information systems
This paper is an exploratory account of the further development and application of a hybrid framework,
StructurANTion, that is based on Structuration Theory and Actor Network Theory (ANT). The use of social
theories in general and their use in information systems (IS) research in particular is explored leading to
the use of the framework to examine the concept of what are termed humanchine networks in the context
of clinical audit, within a healthcare Primary Care Trust (PCT). A particular focus is on the manner in which
information systems-based reflexivity contributes to both entrenching a networks’ structurated order as
well as contributing to its emancipatory change. The case study compares clinic-centric and patientcentric
audit and seeks to further extend the understanding of the role of information and information
systems within structurated humanchine activity systems. Conclusions indicate that the use of more
socially informed IS methods and approaches can incorporate more emancipatory ideals and lead to
greater adoption and usage of more relevant and useful clinical information systems and practices
Development of a computer program to obtain ordinates for NACA-6 and 6A-series airfoils
A computer program was developed to produce the ordinates for airfoils of any thickness, thickness distribution, or camber in the NACA 6- and 6A-series. For the 6-series and for all but the leading edge of the 6A-series, agreement between the ordinates obtained from the new program and previously published values is generally within .00005 chord. Near the leading edge of the 6A-series airfoils, differences up to .00035 chord are found
Applicability of satellite remote sensing for detection and monitoring of coal strip mining activities
The author has identified the following significant results. Large areas covered by orbital photography allows the user to estimate the acreage of strip mining activity from a few frames. Infrared photography both in color and in black and white transparencies was found to be the best suited for this purpose
A streamline curvature method for design of supercritical and subcritical airfoils
An airfoil design procedure, applicable to both subcritical and supercritical airfoils, is described. The method is based on the streamline curvature velocity equation. Several examples illustrating this method are presented and discussed
Development of a computer program to obtain ordinates for NACA 4-digit, 4-digit modified, 5-digit, and 16 series airfoils
A computer program developed to calculate the ordinates and surface slopes of any thickness, symmetrical or cambered NACA airfoil of the 4-digit, 4-digit modified, 5-digit, and 16-series airfoil families is presented. The program produces plots of the airfoil nondimensional ordinates and a punch card output of ordinates in the input format of a readily available program for determining the pressure distributions of arbitrary airfoils in subsonic potential viscous flow
Effect of blockage ratio on drag and pressure distributions for bodies of revolution at transonic speeds
Experimental data were obtained in two wind tunnels for 13 models over a Mach number range from 0.70 to 1.02. Effects of increasing test-section blockage ratio in the transonic region near a Mach number of 1.0 included change in the shape of the drag curves, premature drag creep, delayed drag divergence, and a positive increment of pressures on the model afterbodies. Effects of wall interference were apparent in the data even for a change in blockage ratio from a very low 0.000343 to an even lower 0.000170. Therefore, models having values of blockage ratio of 0.0003 - an order of magnitude below the previously considered safe value of 0.0050 - had significant errors in the drag-coefficient values obtained at speeds near a Mach number of 1.0. Furthermore, the flow relief afforded by slots or perforations in test-section walls - designed according to previously accepted criteria for interference-free subsonic flow - does not appear to be sufficient to avoid significant interference of the walls with the model flow field for Mach numbers very close to 1.0
A hierarchical approach to the prediction of the quaternary structure of GCN4 and its mutants
First published in DIMACS Series in Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science, 23 (1996) published by the American Mathematical Society.Presented at DIMACS Workshop on Global Minimization of Nonconvex Energy Functions: Molecular Conformation and Protein Folding, March 20-21, 1995.A hierarchical approach to protein folding is employed to examine the folding pathway and predict the quaternary structure of the GCN4 leucine zipper. Structures comparable in quality to experiment have been predicted. In addition, the equilibrium between dimers, trimers and tetramers of a number of GCN4 mutants has been examined. In five out of eight cases, the simulation results are in accordance with the experimental studies of Harbury, et al
Study of meteoroid detection systems applicable to the outer planets missions
Modifications to the Pioneer 10/11 meteoroid detection experiment to allow it to be used for outer planet missions were investigated. Both pressurized cells and metal-oxide silicon (MOS) penetration detectors are considered. Both the sensors systems and the electronics are treated. Investigation of the calibration and characterization of the MOS penetration detector is reported
Topography Experiment (TOPEX) Software Document Series Volume 7: TOPEX Mission Radar Altimeter Engineering Assessment Report, February 1994
This document describes the GSFC/WFF analysis of the on-orbit engineering data from the TOPEX radar altimeter, to establish altimeter performance. In accordance with Project guidelines, neither surface truth nor precision orbital data are used for the engineering assessment of the altimeter. The use of such data would imply not only a more intensive and complete performance evaluation, but also a calibration. Such evaluations and.calibrations are outside the scope of this document and will be presented in a separate Verification Report
