    High–Speed Data Transmission Subsystem of the SEOSAR/PAZ Satellite

    This paper analyzes a digital interface and bus system modeling and optimization of the SEOSAR/PAZ Earth Observation satellite. The important part of the satellite is an X–band Synthetic Aperture Radar instrument that integrates 384 Transmit/Receive Modules located in 12 antenna panels 7.5 m away from the central processor and controlled by a synchronous 10 Mbps bidirectional serial protocol. This type of mid–range point–to–multipoint transmission is affected by bit errors due to crosstalk, transmission line attenuation and impedance mismatches. The high–speed data communication network has been designed to optimize the transmission by using a simulation model of the data distribution system which takes into account the worst–case scenario and by developing a lab–scaled prototype which exhibits BER of 10-11 for an interfering signal of 10 Vpp. The result is a point–to–multipoint bidirectional transmission network optimized in both directions with optimal values of loads and equalization resistors.     Propagation mechanism modelling in the near region of circular tunnels

Abstract: Along with the increase in operating frequencies in advanced radio communication systems utilised inside tunnels, the location of the break point is further and further away from the transmitter. This means that the near region lengthens considerably and even occupies the whole propagation cell or the entire length of some short tunnels. To begin with, this study analyses the propagation loss resulting from the free-space mechanism and the multi-mode waveguide mechanism in the near region of circular tunnels, respectively. Then, by conjunctive employing the propagation theory and the three-dimensional solid geometry, a general analytical model of the dividing point between two propagation mechanisms is presented for the first time. Moreover, the model is validated by a wide range of measurement campaigns in different tunnels at different frequencies. Finally, discussions on the simplified formulae of the dividing point in some application situations are made. The results in this study can be helpful to grasp the essence of the propagation mechanism inside tunnels

    Modeling of the Division Point of Different Propagation Mechanisms in the Near-Region Within Arched Tunnels

    An accurate characterization of the near-region propagation of radio waves inside tunnels is of practical importance for the design and planning of advanced communication systems. However, there has been no consensus yet on the propagation mechanism in this region. Some authors claim that the propagation mechanism follows the free space model, others intend to interpret it by the multi-mode waveguide model. This paper clarifies the situation in the near-region of arched tunnels by analytical modeling of the division point between the two propagation mechanisms. The procedure is based on the combination of the propagation theory and the three-dimensional solid geometry. Three groups of measurements are employed to verify the model in different tunnels at different frequencies. Furthermore, simplified models for the division point in five specific application situations are derived to facilitate the use of the model. The results in this paper could help to deepen the insight into the propagation mechanism within tunnel environments

    Channel Capacities for Different Antenna Arrays with Various Transmitting Angles in Tunnels

    [[abstract]]This paper focuses on the research of channel capacity of multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) system with different transmitting angles in straight and curvy tunnels.Araytracing technique is developed to calculate channel frequency responses for tunnels, and the channel frequency response is further used to calculate corresponding channel capacity. The channel capacities are calculated based on the realistic environment. The channel capacities of MIMO long term evolution system using spatial and polar antenna arrays by different transmitting angles are computed. Numerical results show that, The channel capacity for transmitting angle at 15◦ is largest compared to the other angles in the tunnels. Moreover, the channel capacity of polar array is better than that of spatial array both in the straight and curvy tunnels. Besides, the channel capacity for the tunnels with traffic is larger than that without traffic.     Abnormal regulation of soluble and anchored IL-6 receptor in monocytes from patients with essential thrombocythemia

    Objective: In a previous study, we found increased plasma soluble receptor for interleukin-6 (sIL-6R) levels in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET) that could promote megakaryopoiesis through IL-6 binding and further interaction with the signal transducer gp130. Here we have searched for the cell source of sIL-6R within mononuclear cells in these patients and the underlying abnormalities involved in its overproduction. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients with the diagnosis of ET were studied. sIL-6R levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique in the supernatants of peripheral monocyte and lymphocyte cultures. Expression of membrane-anchored IL-6R was determined by flow cytometry. In order to study the mechanism of sIL-6R production, tumor necrosis factor−α protease inhibitor was added to specifically block IL-6R shedding. Gene expression of sIL-6R levels were evaluated by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results: Monocytes were the main source of sIL-6R. Besides, in ET patients, monocyte sIL-6R release was higher than that of controls (p = 0.0014). Lymphocytes enhanced monocyte sIL-6R production by cell-mediated contact in normal controls, but this cooperation could not be seen in patients. Membrane expression of IL-6R was increased after monocyte adhesion in ET. sIL-6R synthesis was upregulated in most patients, while messenger RNA was normal. Conclusions: Our results indicate that ET monocytes are responsible for sIL-6R overproduction within mononuclear cells through synthesis upregulation. In addition, the lack of cooperation of lymphocytes in monocyte sIL-6R production in ET could be due to a monocyte abnormality.     Effects of five carbamide peroxide bleaching gels on composite resin microhardness.

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of five home bleaching products containing 15-16% carbamide peroxide on the microhardness of microhybrid composite resin Z-250 (3M/Espe). A total of 72 specimens were fabricated in cylindrical acrylic matrices (4 x 2 mm), filled with composite resin and photo-activated for 40 seconds. They were divided in 6 study groups (n = 12), according to the bleaching product: Review (SS White), Magic Bleaching (Vigodent), Opalescence (Ultradent), Whiteness Perfect (FGM), Claridex (Biodinâmica), and a control group (not bleached). Specimens were exposed to 1 cc of bleaching gel for 6 hours daily for 2 weeks. The control group specimens were kept in artificial saliva throughout this time. All the specimens were then analyzed in a microhardness tester. Knoop hardness measurements were performed, and the results were submitted to parametric statistical analysis (analysis of variance and Tukey's test). Mean Knoop values and standard deviation were: baseline, 68.52a (4.28); control, 63.42b (7.16); Whiteness Perfect, 57.57c (1.81); Magic Bleaching, 57.22c (3.84); Opalescence, 57.03cd (4.00); Claridex, 53.64de (3.33); Review 51.45e (2.82).
