Learning analytics in massive open online courses as a tool for predicting learner performance

Learning analytics in MOOCs can be used to predict learner performance, which is critical as higher education is moving towards adaptive learning. Interdisciplinary methods used in the article allow for interpreting empirical qualitative data on performance in specific types of course assignments to predict learner performance and improve the quality of MOOCs. Learning analytics results make it possible to take the most from the data regarding the ways learners engage with information and their level of skills at entry. The article presents the results of applying the proposed learning analytics algorithm to analyze learner performance in specific MOOCs developed by Ural Federal University and offered through the National Open Education Platform. © 2018, National Research University Higher School of Economics. This study was support- ed by financial assis- tance provided under the Resolution of the Government of the Rus sian Federation No. 211, Contract No. 02. In spite the universities use the rating system of assessing for a quite long time, this issue is still not fully considered. The article is based on the position of insufficient state of knowledge of the multifunctionality of the students rating. The rating helps to reveal the potential of students. It is mentioned that the rating system of assessment is a tool that will improve the quality of training and provide the required level of motivation. During the research, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction. As a result, the principles of the rating assessment system were revealed, a definition of the term "Rating" was given, its goals were indicated. As an example of the organization of the rating system of assessment, the Nyzhnii Novhorod State Pedagogical University and its "Regulations on the rating system for assessing the quality of student training" were used. It is noted that the rating includes: current check, midterm and final examinations. Further, all possible conditions under which the student receives points were identified and considered. On the example of the NSPU named after Kozma Minin transferring of the rating points into a five-point grading rating system is presented. Also, the types of violations for which points are discarded, are considered. As the study showed, comprehensive planned system yields productive results for students and the university.peer-reviewe

In the global economy of today, there is a tendency for progressive development, there has been expansion in the volume of trade in the international market, modernization of the transport sector, increasing the internalization and globalization of world economic spheres, increasing the number of contractual alliances, visits of the population related to economic activity. Currently, there is actively progressing the development of the world services to the public as the formation and organization of international tourism. This area in the modern context is one of the most important global economic activity, is a difficult and complex procedure which has no small influence on the structuring and the overall picture of the development of the world economy and the state. Disclosure of the major issues of the development of international tourism in global society reveals one of the urgent problems of the world - understanding tourism and its development trends. The main objective is to study the main provisions of international tourism market of the world powers. The study aimed to develop a personalized pharmacological correction of immune, metabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders in chronic cerebral ischemia (CCI) stages I and II. The study included 104 patients, of which 76 were female and 28 were male, with CCI on the background of grade II hypertension, of which 52 patients were with stage I and 52 with stage II at the age of 50±5 years. Clinical and laboratory parameters were studied in 22 healthy donors of the same age who formed a control group. Patients with CCI were randomized according to gender, age, treatment method, concomitant pathology, and duration of the disease. Evaluation of clinical and laboratory data was carried out at the beginning of treatment and 2 weeks after its end. The sorption capacity of erythrocytes and the sorption capacity of the glycocalyx (SEG), the activity of lipid peroxidation processes, the state of the antioxidant system were determined in blood plasma and erythrocytes, the level of stable metabolites of nitric oxide (SMNO), neopterin, C-reactive protein, cytokines (TNFα, IL-1β, IL-8, IFNγ, IL-18, G-CSF, IL-4, IL-10), immunoglobulins (IgM, IgG, IgA), complement system components (C3, C4, C5, C5A), phagocytic and oxygen-dependent activity of polymorphonuclear blood leukocytes. It has been established that for patients with CCI I with high concentrations of IL-8, IL-10, SMNO and a low SEG index, the intake of Cereton and Actovegin or Ceraxon and Mexicor will be insufficient for effective correction of immunometabolic disorders, which requires additional administration of an immunomodulator. Patients with CCI II, who have a higher plasma level of TNFα, IL-10 and low SEG values, need to prescribe Ceraxon, Mexicor and Glutoxim or Ceraxon, Mexicor and Polyoxidonium in order to obtain the maximum clinical and laboratory positive effect

The article reviews graphic design solutions for the conceptual bar «De Gennin» in the Ekaterinburg, it provides a justification for the choice of graphic techniques and images based on the cultural-semiotic approach of Y. Lotman. Based on the results of the study, a conclusion is made about the prevalence of recognition of the selected images over their historical accuracy, in accordance with which some discrepancy with reality is allowed to enhance the stylized image, the geographical and time frames for the sources of images are determined, and the boundaries of modern stylization are described

Temporomandibular Disorder and Cerebellopontine Angle Meningioma: Perspectives from Three Medical Specialists

Introduction. The relevance of the study is due to the complexity of the differential diagnosis of Kosten's syndrome and meningioma in the area of the cerebellar bridge angle of the brain, as well as the severe suffering of patientsThe purpose of our study: development of an algorithm for the approach to the differential diagnosis of meningioma of the cerebellar angle and Kosten's syndrome.Materials and methods. To accomplish the set tasks, we examined 22 patients who complained of headache, hearing impairment, sensation of tinnitus, pain and crepitus in the temporomandibular joint during movements of the lower jaw, paresthesia of the oral and nasal mucosa. All patients were assigned studies: cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the TMJ according to indications.Results. Since complaints can lead patients to see doctors of various specialties, it is necessary to be able to differentiate between Costen's syndrome and a tumor of the cerebral pons-cerebral angle. In Costen's syndrome, the pain most often has an aching character, in contrast to the volumetric formations of the brain, in which the pain is burning, spreading along the branches of the facial or trigeminal nerve. One of the main methods of excluding a brain tumor is magnetic resonance imaging.Conclusions. The most significant modern method for diagnosing Costen's syndrome and meningioma of the cerebellopontine angle is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the TMJ and the brain. Differential signs of Costen's syndrome are distal displacement of the head of the lower jaw, diagnosed by CBCT and MRI, as well as displacement of the articular disc (determined by MRI). A meningioma of the cerebellopontine angle is indicated by the burning nature of pain in half of the face, as well as confirmation of the diagnosis by magnetic resonance imaging of the brain
