    METAPOETIC REFLECTIONS IN THREE AETIA OF THE ARGONAUTICA

    This article studies three aetia in the Argonautica that have metapoetic significance as comments on Apollonius’ Callimachean poetics. In the first aetion (1.1132–1139), the Pyrrhic dance reflects the Argonauts’ key role as active agents in the creation of the plot and shows its Callimachean allegiance in the repurposing of traditional martial imagery. In the second one (4.1719–1730), the meagerness of the Argonauts’ offering to Apollo at Anaphe and the light jesting between Medea’s maidens and the Argonauts are programmatic reflections of the ‘lean’ poetics advocated by Callimachus in the Aetia ‘prologue’ (fr. 1). The third aetion (4.1765–1772), by closing the Argonautica in correspondence with the beginning of Callimachus’ Aetia, stresses the close connection between Apollonius and Callimachus. In it, the quick pace, lightness and playfulness of the hydrophoria at Aegina mirrors the fast coming to an end and happy tone that closes the Argonautica

    Attitudes of Mexican American Women Regarding Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Its Management

    Latinos are twice as likely as the general population to have diabetes. Hispanic women with diabetes are medically undeserved. The purpose of this study was to examine Mexican American women\u27s attitudes about type 2 diabetes and its treatment. A convenience sample of 43 Mexican American women, \u3e 18 years of age, and residing in Northern California participated in this descriptive/exploratory non-randomized survey conducted in February and March 2003. The Diabetes Attitude Scale was used to measure the attitudes of Mexican American women about type 2 diabetes and its treatment. Results supported the beliefs that health care professionals needed special training to care for clients with diabetes; that people with diabetes have a serious disease; and that controlling blood glucose levels reduces complications of diabetes

    Tailoring optical fields emitted by nanometric sources

    Here we study a simple way of controlling the emitted fields of sub-wavelength nanometric sources. The system consists of arrays of nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in optical active media. The key concept is the careful tuning of NP's damping factors, which changes the eigenmode's decay rates of the whole array. This, at long time, leads to a locking of relative phases and frequencies of individual localized-surfaces-plasmons (LSPs) and, thus, controlls the emitted field. The amplitude of the LSP's oscillations can be kept constant by embedding the system in optical active media. In the case of full loss compensation, this implies that, not only the relative phases, but also the amplitudes of the LSPs remain fixed, leading us, additionally, to interpret the process as a new example of synchronization. The proposed approach can be used as a general way of controlling and designing the electromagnetic fields emitted by nanometric sources, which can find applications in optoelectronic, nanoscale lithography and probing microscopy

    Ross 128-GL 447: A possible activity cycle for a slow-rotating fully convective star

    Context. Long-term chromospheric activity in slow-rotating fully convective stars has scarcely been explored. Ross 128 (Gl 447) is a slow-rotator and inactive dM4 star that has been extensively observed. It hosts the fourth closest extrasolar planet. Aims. Ross 128 is an ideal target to test dynamo theories in slow-rotating low-mass stars. Methods. To characterize the magnetic activity of Ross 128, we studied the SK-indexes derived from CASLEO, HARPS, FEROS, UVES, and X-shooter spectra. Using the generalized Lomb-Scargle and CLEAN periodograms, we analyzed the whole SK time-series obtained between 2004 and 2018. We performed a similar analysis for the Na I-index, and we analyzed its relation with the SK-index. Results. From both indexes, we obtain a possible activity cycle with a period of about five years, which is one of a small handful of activity cycles that have been reported for a slow-rotating fully convective star.Fil: Ibañez Bustos, Romina Valeria.     Esquema de información de clima para turismo aplicado al balneario Pehuen Co, Argentina

    El objetivo del trabajo es efectuar los primeros estudios sobre el bioclima del balneario de Pehuen Co, al suroeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Se utiliza el Esquema de Información de Clima para Turismo (CTIS en inglés) para identificar los meses con mayor potencial turístico. Se modifica el CTIS para adaptarlo a las características climáticas del balneario. Este esquema puede ser aplicado por los agentes turísticos o turistas para identificar de forma rápida y sencilla los mejores meses según la actividad que deseen realizar
