A catalog of Nearby Poor Clusters of Galaxies
A catalog of 732 optically selected, nearby poor clusters of galaxies
covering the entire sky north of declination is presented. The
poor clusters, called WBL clusters, were identified as concentrations of 3 or
more galaxies with photographic magnitudes brighter than 15.7, possessing a
galaxy surface overdensity of . These criteria are consistent with
those used in the identification of the original Yerkes poor clusters, and this
new catalog substantially increases the sample size of such objects. These poor
clusters cover the entire range of galaxy associations up to and including
Abell clusters, systematically including poor and rich galaxy systems spanning
over three orders of magnitude in the cluster mass function. As a result, this
new catalog contains a greater diversity of richness and structures than other
group catalogs, such as the Hickson or Yerkes catalogs. The information on
individual galaxies includes redshifts and cross-references to other galaxy
catalogs. The entries for the clusters include redshift (where available) and

Large-scale Motions in the Perseus Galaxy Cluster
By combining large-scale mosaics of ROSAT PSPC, XMM-Newton, and Suzaku X-ray
observations, we present evidence for large-scale motions in the intracluster
medium of the nearby, X-ray bright Perseus Cluster. These motions are suggested
by several alternating and interleaved X-ray bright, low-temperature,
low-entropy arcs located along the east-west axis, at radii ranging from ~10
kpc to over a Mpc. Thermodynamic features qualitatively similar to these have
previously been observed in the centers of cool core clusters, and were
successfully modeled as a consequence of the gas sloshing/swirling motions
induced by minor mergers. Our observations indicate that such sloshing/swirling
can extend out to larger radii than previously thought, on scales approaching

Evidence for Non-Hydrostatic Gas from the Cluster X-ray to Lensing Mass Ratio
Using a uniform analysis procedure, we measure spatially resolved weak
gravitational lensing and hydrostatic X-ray masses for a sample of 18 clusters
of galaxies. We find a radial trend in the X-ray to lensing mass ratio: at
r2500 we obtain a ratio MX/ML=1.03+/-0.07 which decreases to MX/ML=0.78+/-0.09
at r500. This difference is significant at 3 sigma once we account for
correlations between the measurements. We show that correcting the lensing mass
for excess correlated structure outside the virial radius slightly reduces, but
does not eliminate this trend. An X-ray mass underestimate, perhaps due to
nonthermal pressure support, can explain the residual trend. The trend is not
correlated with the presence or absence of a cool core. We also examine the
cluster gas fraction and find no correlation with ML, an important result for
techniques that aim to determine cosmological parameters using the gas

Is There a Peccei-Quinn Phase Transition?
The nature of axion cosmology is usually said to depend on whether the
Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry breaks before or after inflation. The PQ symmetry
itself is believed to be an accident, so there is not necessarily a symmetry
during inflation at all. We explore these issues in some simple models, which
provide examples of symmetry breaking before and after inflation, or in which
there is no symmetry during inflation and no phase transition at all. One
effect of these observations is to relax the constraints from isocurvature
fluctuations due to the axion during inflation. We also observe new
possibilities for evading the constraints due to cosmic strings and domain
