Comprehensive or Comprehensible Experience? A Case Study of Religion and Traumatic Bereavement

    Get PDF
The first half of this article provides a brief overview of two respective projects concerning traumatic bereavement, in which religious faith appeared to feature amid a constellation of significant coping and sense-making mechanisms for survivors. After presenting some illustrative examples of the kind of data produced in the course of our research, the second half of the article develops a retrospectively critical appraisal of our data collection and corresponding analysis practices. In questioning the extent to which our accounts of our participants’ accounts can be considered adequate representations of social order, we critically explore the relative potential of ‘reflexivity’ for bridging the experiential gap between researchers and participants. Taken together, these reflections prompt a return to the salutary question: what counts as sociologically ‘see-able’

The composition of steroids and triterpenoids in the leaves of eight grapevine species was analyzed in order to assess phenotypic differences. Four wild species (Vitis aestivalis Michx., Vitis labrusca L., Vitis riparia Michx., and Vitis vinifera subsp.

Response surface analysis on the effect of temperature and pH on Growth and proteolytic activity of thermophilic Bacillus sp

    No full text
Proteolytic activity and cell biomass of thermophilic Bacillus sp. strain were evaluated at various levels of initial pH and temperature by applying response surface methodology. The mineral medium containing yeast extract (0.01%) and starch (1%) was used throughout the experiment. The results of statistical analysis revealed the polynomial model with high coefficient of determination (RÂČ = 0.8) for the biomass and total proteolytic activity of the strain studied. This model showed a satisfactory adjustment of the statistic model with the experimental data. The p values showed that the temperature and pH had significant effect on biomass and proteolytic activity (P<0.05) of strain tested. The highest proteolytic activity (2.333 U/ml/h) of the Bacillus sp. was predicted at 41Âș C and pH 4.8.
