    Evaluation of Degradation in Nanofilled Adhesive Resins Using Quantitative Light-Induced Fluorescence

    The aim of this study was to evaluate degradation in commercial dental nanofilled adhesive resins using quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF). Three adhesives were selected: D/E resin (DR), Single Bond Plus (SB), and G-Bond (GB). The adhesives were mixed with porphyrin for the QLF analysis. Specimens were prepared by dispensing blended adhesives into a flexible mold and polymerizing. Then, the QLF analysis of the specimens was done and the porphyrin values (Simple Plaque Score and ΔR) were measured. After thermocycling of the specimens (5000 cycles, 5 to 55°C) for the degradation, the specimens were assayed by QLF again. The porphyrin values were analyzed using paired t-test at a 95% confidence level. A significant reduction in SPS was observed in all groups after thermocycling. The ΔR significantly decreased after thermocycling except area ΔR30 of SB group. Overall, porphyrin values decreased after thermocycling which indicates that the degradation of the adhesive resins may be measured by the change of porphyrin value. The QLF method could be used to evaluate the degradation of adhesive resin

    Patients with cervical cancer may develop local recurrence or distant metastasis, and the rate of these events is increased in proportion to the clinical stage. Cutaneous metastasis of cervical cancer is very rare and only a few cases have been reported in Korean literature. It is common at the abdominal wall, vulva, and anterior chest wall and mainly presents as an asymptomatic dermal or subcutaneous nodule, ulcer or plaque. We herein report on an interesting case of vulval metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix with an unusual clinical manifestation resembling lymphagioma circumscriptum

    Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    A presente pesquisa buscou discutir como a Educação Ambiental (EA) vem sendo trabalhada, no Ensino Fundamental e como os docentes desta escola compreendem e vem inserindo a EA no cotidiano escolar., em uma escola estadual do município de Tangará da Serra/MT, Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas com os professores que fazem parte de um projeto interdisciplinar de EA na escola pesquisada. Verificou-se que o projeto da escola não vem conseguindo alcançar os objetivos propostos por: desconhecimento do mesmo, pelos professores; formação deficiente dos professores, não entendimento da EA como processo de ensino-aprendizagem, falta de recursos didáticos, planejamento inadequado das atividades. A partir dessa constatação, procurou-se debater a impossibilidade de tratar do tema fora do trabalho interdisciplinar, bem como, e principalmente, a importância de um estudo mais aprofundado de EA, vinculando teoria e prática, tanto na formação docente, como em projetos escolares, a fim de fugir do tradicional vínculo “EA e ecologia, lixo e horta”.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

    Ortner’s or cardiovocal syndrome is hoarseness attributable to left recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy associated with mechanical compression of the nerve by pathologically enlarged cardiovascular structures. Ortner’s syndrome is a rare condition, and to our knowledge, only a few cases have been reported in Korea. Furthermore, this condition is extremely uncommon in pediatric patients with thyrotoxicosis-related RLN paralysis. We report a case of reversible Ortner’s syndrome in an adolescent who presented with secondary pulmonary hypertension related to thyrotoxicosis

    Aerobic Exercise Training Decreases Hepatic Asprosin in Diabetic Rats

    Asprosin, a novel hormone released from white adipose tissue, regulates hepatic glucose metabolism and is pathologically elevated in the presence of insulin resistance. It is unknown whether aerobic exercise training affects asprosin levels in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The aim of this study was to determine whether (1) aerobic exercise training could decrease asprosin levels in the liver of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats and (2) the reduction in asprosin levels could induce asprosin-dependent downstream pathways. Five-week-old male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into control, STZ-induced diabetes (STZ), and STZ with aerobic exercise training groups (n = 6/group). T1DM was induced by a single dose of STZ (65 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.)). The exercise group was made to run on a treadmill for 60 min at a speed of 20 m/min, 4 days per week for 8 weeks. Aerobic exercise training reduced the protein levels of asprosin, PKA, and TGF-β but increased those of AMPK, Akt, PGC-1β, and MnSOD. These results suggest that aerobic exercise training affects hepatic asprosin-dependent PKA/TGF-β and AMPK downstream pathways in T1DM

    Search for the production of a Higgs boson in association with top quarks and decaying into a b-quark pair and b-jet identification with the ATLAS experiment at LHC

    In July 2012, the ATLAS and CMS experiments announced the discovery of a new particle, with a mass about 125125 GeV, compatible with the Standard Model Higgs boson. In order to assess if the observed particle is the one predicted by the Standard Model, the couplings if this Higgs boson to fermions have to be measured. In particular, the top quark has the strongest Yukawa coupling to the Higgs boson. The associated production of a Higgs boson with a pair of top quarks (ttˉHt\bar{t}H) gives a direct access to this coupling. The ttˉHt\bar{t}H process is accessible for the first time in the Run 2 of the LHC thanks to an upgrade of the detector, especially the IBL which improves bb-tagging, and the increase of the center of mass energy to 1313 TeV and of the integrated luminosity to 36.136.1 fb1^{-1} in 2016. This thesis presents the search for ttˉHt\bar{t}H events with the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of bb-quarks using data collected by the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. The description of the background and the extraction of the ttˉH(Hbb)t\bar{t}H(H\rightarrow bb) signal in data are obtained by a statistical matching on predictions to data. In particular the ttˉ+t\bar{t}+jets background is the main limitation to signal sensitivity and is scrutinized. The identification of jets originating from bb-quarks, called bb-tagging, is a vital input to the search of ttˉH(Hbb)t\bar{t}H(H\rightarrow bb) events because of the four bb-quarks in the final state. For Run 2 the definition of b-flavoured-jets in Monte Carlo simulations is revisited to improve the understanding of bb-tagging algorithms and their performance. Standard bb-tagging algorithms do not separate jets originating from a single bb-quark from those originating from two bb-quarks. Thus a specific method has been developed and is reviewed in this thesis
