    High precision beam momentum determination in a synchrotron using a spin resonance method

    Get PDF
    In order to measure the mass of the eta meson with high accuracy using the d+p -> 3He+eta reaction, the momentum of the circulating deuteron beam in the Cooler Synchrotron COSY of the Forschungszentrum Juelich has to be determined with unprecedented precision. This has been achieved by studying the spin dynamics of the polarized deuteron beam. By depolarizing the beam through the use of an artificially induced spin resonance, it was possible to evaluate its momentum p with a precision of dp/p < 10-4 for a momentum of roughly 3 GeV/c. Different possible sources of error in the application of the spin resonance method are discussed in detail and its possible use during a standard experiment is considered.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables, published versio

    Evidence of phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma and phi --> pi0 eta gamma decays in SND experiment at VEPP-2M

    Preliminary results on the study of e+e- --> phi(1020) --> pi0 pi0 gamma, eta pi0 gamma processes from SND experiment at VEPP-2M collider in Novosibirsk are presented. Branching ratios of rare radiative phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma and phi --> pi0 eta gamma decays are measured: B(phi --> pi0 pi0 gamma ) = (1.1 +- 0.2) * 10^-4 (invariant mass (pi0 pi0) < 800 MeV), B(phi --> eta pi0 gamma ) = (1.3 +- 0.5) * 10^-4.Comment: Talk at the HADRON97 conference, BNL, Aug 24-30 1997; LaTeX, 4 pages, 4 eps figure

    Branching fraction of the isospin violating process phi to omega pi0

    Full text link
    We examine the parametrization of the e+e- -> omega pi0 cross section in the vicinity of the phi resonance and the extraction of the branching fraction of the isospin violating process phi -> omega pi0 from experimental data. We found that there are two possible solutions of the branching fraction, one is 4 times 10^{-5}, and the other is 7 times 10^{-3}. The latter is two orders of magnitude higher than the former, which is the commonly accepted one
