    At each time, a firm facing uncertainty over future market conditions have to make a decision whether they should continue to produce or stop the process? As the traditional principle, the firm will go out of production when the price of the typical unit does not cover the average variable cost that it must incur to produce the typical unit. In reality the firm can suffer losses today however it can get more gains tomorrow that is enough to make up the losses. It means that this rule seems not be suitable absolutely in an uncertainty environment. And it leads to a rule that the firm only stop producing if average variable costs of unit exceed the price of unit by a positive amount. This paper expects to find this exceeding amount and when a firm will stop producing. Under uncertainty, the price of unit and the average variables cost are assumed to follow a continuous time stochastic process. We wish to apply the optimal stopping time approach in order to solve it.

    Towards Developing the Smart Cultural Heritage Management of the French Colonial Villas in Hanoi, Vietnam

    Hanoi city was formed and inherited a unique urban heritage. Among them are the French-colonial Villas, which were constructed in the pre–1954 period. During the development process, the local government and community have always paid special attention to these heritage sites and organized many conservation and research activities. However, the management and preservation of these sites are still facing many challenges under pressure from urbanization, environmental impact, leading to the risk of being invaded and destroyed. The objective of this paper is to discuss the potential of developing the management strategy for French colonial villas in Hanoi within contemporary society using the concept of the Smart Cultural Heritage. The authors believe that will support various cultural services as well as promoting and preserving cultural heritage. It does so by presenting the results of the survey of the status of villas in the French period in Hanoi to classify and evaluate establish the regulation of use management and value conservation, build up the Big Data system. At the same time, the proposal will use smart platforms and participatory processes to encourage community access to raise awareness and assess the villas' value

    Effect of surface treatment of recycled concrete aggregate by cement -silica fume slurry on compressive strength of concrete

    Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) used as an alternative to natural aggregate (NA) contains weak adhered mortar. The adhered mortar adversely affects the properties of RCA, and compressive strength of concrete with RCA. Therefore, a treatment method by coating surface of RCA with cement-silica fume slurry (CSS) at concentrations of 20, 40, and 60% was done to evaluate its effects on crushing value and water absorption of RCA, and compressive strength of concrete with treated RCA. The replacements of natural coarse aggregate by RCA for concrete production were 0, 25, and 50% by volume. Compressive strength of the concrete having a constant water-to-cement ratio of 0.35 was tested at ages of 3, 7, 28, and 56 days. Results showed that crushing value and water absorption of the treated RCA were more improved when compared with those of the untreated RCA due to new products formed from cement hydration and pozzolanic reactions on its surface detected by using scanning electron microscope. The surface treatment with CSS at concentration of 60% was the most effective method when compared with that with CSS at concentrations of 20 and 40%. The higher the concentration of CSS, the higher the compressive strength of concrete with the treated RCA. The treatment of RCA led to a significant improvement of compressive strength of the concrete at later ages (i.e., at 28 and 56 days) when compared with the concrete using untreated RCA

    Reservoir optimization, is one of recent problems, which has been researched by several methods such as Linear Programming (LP), Non-linear Programming (NLP), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Dynamic Programming (DP). Differential Evolution (DE), a method in GA group, is recently applied in many fields, especially water management. This method is an improved variant of GA to converge and reach to the optimal solution faster than the traditional GA. It is also capable to apply for a wide range space, to a problem with complex, discontinuous, undifferential optimal function. Furthermore, this method does not requirethe gradient information of the space but easily find the global solution by asimple algorithm. In this paper, we introduce DE, compare to LP which was considered mathematically decades ago to prove DE's accuracy, then apply DE to Pleikrong, a reservoir in Vietnam, then discuss about the results

    STUDY ON CAUSE-EFFECT RELATIONS AND OPTIMIZATION OF TABLETS CONTAINING AQUILARIA CRASSNA SPRAY-DRIED EXTRACT

    Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and optimize the formulation of tablets containing Aquilaria crassna extract using the direct compression method.Methods: D-optimal design based on three independent variables was applied to evaluate the cause-effect relations and optimize the A. crassna tablet formulation. The weight variation (Y1), disintegration time (Y2), hardness (Y3) and friability (Y4) were investigated with respect to three independent variables including % dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA) in filler (X1), % filler (X2) and % croscarmellose sodium (CCNa) (X3). The dissolution study of the optimized A. crassna tablets were investigated in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) (pH 1.2) using a validated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for mangiferin analysis.Results: All investigation factors were found to have significant effects on the physical properties of A. crassna tablet. The tablet hardness and the disintegration time increased in positive relations with the ratios of DCPA. The results exhibited the negative relations between disintegration time and the percentages of CCNa. The optimized A. crassna tablet formulation which included 35 % (w/w) DCPA in filler, 60 % (w/w) filler and 7% (w/w) CCNa possessed the weight variation of 1.38 % (w/w), the disintegration time of 6.29 min, the hardness of 85.63 N and the friability of 0.41 % (w/w). The optimized A. crassna tablet formulation was experimentally examined which demonstrated a good agreement between the experimental and predicted values. Mangiferin was found to release completely from the optimized A. crassna tablets within 30 min.Conclusion: The cause-effect relations and optimization of A. crassna tablet formulation were investigated and reported for the first time. The A. crassna spray-dried extract could be formulated into tablet by direct compression method with good mechanical properties and acceptable release profile

    Two decades of studies on learning management system in higher education: A bibliometric analysis with Scopus database 2000-2020

    Over the past twenty years, using learning management systems in higher education has attracted increasing interest from researchers around the globe. In this context, the current study aimed to explore the volume, growth trajectory, and geographic distribution of learning management systems in higher education literature, along with identifying impactful authors, sources, and publications, and highlight emerging research issues. The authors conducted bibliometric analysis on 1334 documents, related to the use of learning management systems in the context of higher education, extracted from Scopus database. The findings show a rapidly growing knowledge base on learning management systems in higher education, especially intensely in the years 2015-2020 and primarily from research in developed societies. This flourishing is consistent with the development trend of international education and the strong development of technology. In addition, the core literature was identified based on the volume of publications and citations. The results also reveal the emerging intellectual structure of the field and provide points of reference for scholars studying the discipline. This paper offers a knowledge map for future research assessments of learning management systems in higher education

    Cultural evolution in Vietnam’s early 20th century: a Bayesian networks analysis of Franco-Chinese house designs

    The study of cultural evolution has taken on an increasingly interdisciplinary and diverse approach in explicating phenomena of cultural transmission and adoptions. Inspired by this computational movement, this study uses Bayesian networks analysis, combining both the frequentist and the Hamiltonian Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach, to investigate the highly representative elements in the cultural evolution of a Vietnamese city’s architecture in the early 20th century. With a focus on the façade design of 68 old houses in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (based on 78 data lines extracted from 248 photos), the study argues that it is plausible to look at the aesthetics, architecture, and designs of the house façade to find traces of cultural evolution in Vietnam, which went through more than six decades of French colonization and centuries of sociocultural influence from China. The in-depth technical analysis, though refuting the presumed model on the probabilistic dependency among the variables, yields several results, the most notable of which is the strong influence of Buddhism over the decorations of the house façade. Particularly, in the top 5 networks with the best Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) scores and p\u3c0.05, the variable for decorations (DC) always has a direct probabilistic dependency on the variable B for Buddhism. The paper then checks the robustness of these models using Hamiltonian MCMC method and find the posterior distributions of the models’ coefficients all satisfy the technical requirement. Finally, this study suggests integrating Bayesian statistics in the social sciences in general and for the study of cultural evolution and architectural transformation in particular

    Reservoirs optimization with dynamic programming

    Differential Evolution (DE) and Dynamic Programming (DP) are important optimal methods in reservoir regulation. In the previous work [1], we presented the outline of DE, and applied it into Pleikrong reservoir, a big one in the Highland of Vietnam for dry season of 2010 year. Continuing from that, in this work, we present the outline of DP and then again, apply it to Pleikrong reservoir; and also apply it to Ialy, the biggest reservoir in Sesan cascade in the Highland of Vietnam; to reach optimal regulation for the maximum power production in the dry season of two years: 2010 and 2012. The results getting from DP are compared to the results by using DE. The results by these two methods have the same trend of releases which is storing the water at the beginning and significantly releasing at the end of the calculation time
