Starting from the premise that digital society and advances in technology determine the need for adaptation, even if only in an interpretative sense, of the legal categories of constitutionalism, the study analyzes the new dimension of the freedom of expression of thought in the "digital environment". Through the examination of the different jurisprudential approaches expressed to protect this freedom in Europe and in the United States, the work also examines the role of social platforms, their power of self-regulation and that of content moderation, which will highlight the need for regulation of the phenomenon that balances the needs of protection of rights and those of technological advancement, which, with its rapid progress, shows its intolerance for disciplines that are excessively rigid and unable to support it. The Digital Service Act regulation recently approved definitively by the Council provides a new legal framework for digital services based on procedural rules aimed, on the one hand, at strengthening the accountability mechanisms of "very large platforms", and on the other guaranteeing the continuation of their self-regulating power

The study aims to investigate the indicator path from the sentence of the Constitutional Court n. 242/2019 on medically assisted suicide. Pending the approval of the legislative discipline, on which Parliament is currently working, deemed necessary by the Constitutional Court itself to give certainty to such an ethically delicate matter, judges are increasingly finding themselves deciding on cases of medically assisted suicide and on the both on the level of criminal law and on the level of civil law, interpreting the constitutional jurisprudence on the subject in a constitutionally complian

The effect of storage on quality and condition of grain of three wheat cultivars (Ljiljana, Dragana and Simonida) selected in Serbia, was studied. Freshly harvested wheat was stored at 25°C for 12 and 20 months. Decreasing of the volume from 812.3 to 727.7 kgm-3 and absolute mass from 38.5 to 33.0% of wheat grain during storage was recorded. Grain germination in interaction of storage duration and temperature remained at the level above 95%. The interaction of studied factors exhibited no statistically significant effect on the changes in the degree of germination of wheat grain. The changes of the acid degree value (2.0- 2.4 ml 1(NaO)/100 g) were at the level of statistical significance. pH value of fresh samples of grain was 6.5 and after 20 months 5.5. The samples tested from the aspect of their glassiness were homogenous, the value of the coefficient of variation for storage duration was CV lt 10%, and for genotypes CV lt 18%. The storage duration of wheat grain mostly contributed to the increase of the acid degree value, and slightly less the genotype, as well as the interaction of these factors.

    A dependent nominal type theory

Nominal abstract syntax is an approach to representing names and binding pioneered by Gabbay and Pitts. So far nominal techniques have mostly been studied using classical logic or model theory, not type theory. Nominal extensions to simple, dependent and ML-like polymorphic languages have been studied, but decidability and normalization results have only been established for simple nominal type theories. We present a LF-style dependent type theory extended with name-abstraction types, prove soundness and decidability of beta-eta-equivalence checking, discuss adequacy and canonical forms via an example, and discuss extensions such as dependently-typed recursion and induction principles

SIMPLE SUMMARY: Breast cancer in men is a rare disease; however, morbidity and mortality in male breast cancer (MBC) patients is a serious concern. The identification of specific molecular features in MBC is essential for developing more appropriate and targeted therapeutic strategies for MBC patients. In this study, by transcriptome analysis of 63 MBCs characterized for germline mutations in the most relevant BC susceptibility genes, mainly BRCA1/2, we highlighted possible differences in the molecular pathways underlying MBC pathogenesis in relation to germline mutation status. Furthermore, we identified two distinct subgroups of MBCs of clinical relevance, which are characterized by different biological features and prognosis. Overall, our results showed that transcriptome profiling by RNA sequencing is a valuable approach to dissect the molecular heterogeneity of MBC and suggest that the transcriptome matched with germline profiling may lead to the identification of MBC subtypes with possible relevance in the clinical setting, which is a primary step to improve the clinical management of MBC patients. ABSTRACT: Male breast cancer (MBC) is a rare and understudied disease compared with female BC. About 15% of MBCs are associated with germline mutation in BC susceptibility genes, mainly BRCA1/2 and PALB2. Hereditary MBCs are likely to represent a subgroup of tumors with a peculiar phenotype. Here, we performed a whole transcriptome analysis of MBCs characterized for germline mutations in the most relevant BC susceptibility genes in order to identify molecular subtypes with clinical relevance. A series of 63 MBCs, including 16 BRCA2, 6 BRCA1, 2 PALB2, 1 RAD50, and 1 RAD51D germline-mutated cases, was analyzed by RNA-sequencing. Differential expression and hierarchical clustering analyses were performed. Module signatures associated with central biological processes involved in breast cancer pathogenesis were also examined. Different transcriptome profiles for genes mainly involved in the cell cycle, DNA damage, and DNA repair pathways emerged between MBCs with and without germline mutations. Unsupervised clustering analysis revealed two distinct subgroups, one of which was characterized by a higher expression of immune response genes, high scores of gene-expression signatures suggestive of aggressive behavior, and worse overall survival. Our results suggest that transcriptome matched with germline profiling may be a valuable approach for the identification and characterization of MBC subtypes with possible relevance in the clinical setting

    Partial Recursive Functions and Finality

Abstract. We seek universal categorical conditions ensuring the representability of all partial recursive functions. In the category Pfn of sets and partial functions, the natural numbers provide both an initial algebra and a final coalgebra for the functor 1 + −. We recount how finality yields closure of the partial functions on natural numbers under Kleene’s µ-recursion scheme. Noting that Pfn is not cartesian, we then build on work of Paré and Román, obtaining weak initiality and finality conditions on natural numbers algebras in monoidal categories that ensure the (weak) representability of all partial recursive functions. We further obtain some positive results on strong representability. All these results adapt to Kleisli categories of cartesian categories with natural numbers algebras. However, in general, not all partial recursive functions need be strongly representable.

Background: While acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in COVID-19, data on post-AKI kidney function recovery and the clinical factors associated with poor kidney function recovery is lacking. Methods: A retrospective multi-centre observational cohort study comprising 12,891 hospitalized patients aged 18 years or older with a diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by polymerase chain reaction from 1 January 2020 to 10 September 2020, and with at least one serum creatinine value 1–365 days prior to admission. Mortality and serum creatinine values were obtained up to 10 September 2021. Findings: Advanced age (HR 2.77, 95%CI 2.53–3.04, p < 0.0001), severe COVID-19 (HR 2.91, 95%CI 2.03–4.17, p < 0.0001), severe AKI (KDIGO stage 3: HR 4.22, 95%CI 3.55–5.00, p < 0.0001), and ischemic heart disease (HR 1.26, 95%CI 1.14–1.39, p < 0.0001) were associated with worse mortality outcomes. AKI severity (KDIGO stage 3: HR 0.41, 95%CI 0.37–0.46, p < 0.0001) was associated with worse kidney function recovery, whereas remdesivir use (HR 1.34, 95%CI 1.17–1.54, p < 0.0001) was associated with better kidney function recovery. In a subset of patients without chronic kidney disease, advanced age (HR 1.38, 95%CI 1.20–1.58, p < 0.0001), male sex (HR 1.67, 95%CI 1.45–1.93, p < 0.0001), severe AKI (KDIGO stage 3: HR 11.68, 95%CI 9.80–13.91, p < 0.0001), and hypertension (HR 1.22, 95%CI 1.10–1.36, p = 0.0002) were associated with post-AKI kidney function impairment. Furthermore, patients with COVID-19-associated AKI had significant and persistent elevations of baseline serum creatinine 125% or more at 180 days (RR 1.49, 95%CI 1.32–1.67) and 365 days (RR 1.54, 95%CI 1.21–1.96) compared to COVID-19 patients with no AKI. Interpretation: COVID-19-associated AKI was associated with higher mortality, and severe COVID-19-associated AKI was associated with worse long-term post-AKI kidney function recovery. Given the growing number of prediction algorithms developed to predict COVID-19 mortality, we evaluated the transportability of a mortality prediction algorithm using a multi-national network of healthcare systems. We predicted COVID-19 mortality using baseline commonly measured laboratory values and standard demographic and clinical covariates across healthcare systems, countries, and continents. Specifically, we trained a Cox regression model with nine measured laboratory test values, standard demographics at admission, and comorbidity burden pre-admission. These models were compared at site, country, and continent level. Of the 39,969 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 (68.6% male), 5717 (14.3%) died. In the Cox model, age, albumin, AST, creatine, CRP, and white blood cell count are most predictive of mortality. The baseline covariates are more predictive of mortality during the early days of COVID-19 hospitalization. Models trained at healthcare systems with larger cohort size largely retain good transportability performance when porting to different sites. The combination of routine laboratory test values at admission along with basic demographic features can predict mortality in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Importantly, this potentially deployable model differs from prior work by demonstrating not only consistent performance but also reliable transportability across healthcare systems in the US and Europe, highlighting the generalizability of this model and the overall approach
