    RFID Antenna Coverage Optimization

    Get PDF
This research focuses on the problem of determining the location of RFID antennas required to read RFID tags from all items in a facility, such that the number of antennas is minimized. We formulate the problem as a Set Covering optimization problem. We develop a heuristic algorithm for this NP-Complete problem. We also develop a computerized system, RFIDMIN, which enables for the automated calculation of the minimum number and location of RFID antennas, given the size of the facility and antenna specifications. RFIDMIN can be used by companies to implement an effective RFID system at lowest hardware costs

Natural microorganisms’ effect on the growth of Lasthenia californica in post‐fire soil

    Get PDF
The effect of microorganisms in post‐fire soil on the growth of lasthenia californica was studied by comparing growth in natural soil versus autoclaved soil. It was hypothesized that the seeds from the natural soil would have more growth because the microorganisms have a symbiotic relationship with the plants. Seeds were grown in similar conditions in both autoclaved and natural soil. After 44 days, the plants were uprooted and split into shoots and roots. Shoots and roots were then biomassed. The natural soil had a total shoot biomass of 3.031g and a total root biomass of 89.554g, while the autoclaved soil had a total shoot biomass of 1.731g and a total root biomass of 21.4492g. The results were consistent with the hypothesis showing that microorganisms do have an effect on the growth of lasthenia californica. This is valuable information for any post‐fire recovery. If the fire was hot enough to kill the microorganisms, it might be more conducive to lasthenia californica growth to add microorganisms back to the soil

Unbounded Christianity: Defining Religion for Oneself in Nineteenth-Century New England through Adin Ballou

This dissertation turns specifically to the recovered writings of Reverend Adin Ballou, a historically neglected New England preacher, to re-envision and re-interpret what it meant to be a "seeker" during the religiously tumultuous antebellem era in the United States. Using Ballou as a lens, I argue that for both the pastor and practitioner, one's own understanding of religion was fluid despite denominational indentification

Nursing Education Regarding Take-home Narcan in Relation to Opioid-Related Deaths

    Get PDF
The opioid epidemic in America has remained a national crisis since 2011 with opioid related deaths continuing to dramatically increase. Naloxone (Narcan) safely reverses the effects of an opioid overdose with little to no side effects. There is a gap in the literature regarding education and stigma-breaking conversations held between addicts and nurses surrounding an opioid overdose. This systematic literature review will examine the effects of nursing education on the acceptance and use of take-home Narcan kits within opioid drug users. Using the Kennesaw State University Library SuperSearch database, we searched for peer-reviewed studies that included one or more of the following keywords: “Opioid-related deaths”, “Take-home narcan”, and/or “Nursing education”. Inclusion criteria for our search were literature published within the last 5 years, opioids, opioid- related substances (eg., Heroin), and/or naloxone, and English language. Our exclusionary criteria were studies conducted prior to 2017, non-English language, non-opioid related substances, and non-naloxone related interventions. Using the PRISMA model we narrowed the search to specific studies pertaining to our inclusion criteria, the importance of take-home Narcan education with addicts, and its potential connection with lowering opioid deaths in the area. We plan to analyze and synthesize evidence to define the connection between nursing education with addicts pertaining to Narcan and a decrease in opioid related deaths. The final results of this report will be discussed at the Symposium as the review analysis is still in progress

Understanding Financial Literacy and Competence: Considerations for Training, Collaboration, and Referral for MFTs

    Get PDF
Developing clinical competencies is a foundational feature for most mental health disciplines. Evidence suggests that many couples attending marital therapy regularly report that financial concerns are a significant contributor to their collective distress. Despite the reports of financial distress being a common occurrence, many practitioners are unfamiliar with available resources to remediate the problem. The authors address the concepts of practitioner competence in financial literacy, client financial problems, the benefits of financial literacy, and suggest a referral process, grounded in ethical decision making, that provides appropriate treatment considerations to clients experiencing such distress. The Referral for Financial Concerns Questionnaire (RFCQ) and the Personal & Relationship Financial Assessment Tool (PREFAT) are introduced. Finally, the authors provide suggestions for professional collaboration between mental health practitioners, financial planners, and financial counselors

A Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic’s Pandemic Pivot to Telehealth and Its Impact on Student Readiness for a First Full-Time Clinic Experience

    Get PDF
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 led to a multitude of adjustments in physical therapist education. This article will describe the delivery model pivot that a student-run pro bono clinic made to sustain client care and student experience. The change in delivery model also led to a change in care model. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact that the change in delivery and care model within the student-run pro bono clinic had on student readiness for a first formal clinical education experience. Methods: This qualitative investigation utilized participant journals and a focus group to capture participants’ reflections and experiences in the first four weeks of their full-time clinical experience. Content analysis guided the research team in the data analysis. Triangulation, an audit trail, reflexivity, and member checking further enhanced confirmability of findings. Results: Seven participants kept journals and participated in the focus group. Six categories of impact emerged, three because of the change in delivery to telehealth and three due to the change in care model which led to increased continuity of care. The three categories related to telehealth included 1) impact on clinical skills, 2) facilitating communication, and 3) window into their home. The three categories specific to increased continuity of care included 1) clinical reasoning skills, 2) documentation, and 3) client rapport. Conclusions: Telehealth and the increased continuity of care presented advantages and disadvantages to student readiness. Post pandemic, student leaders should consider ways in which they might retain the positive outcomes of the switch in delivery and care model while resuming care in-person
