RIQUEZA Y ABUNDANCIA DE AVES EN EL CENTRO REGIONAL UNIVERSITARIO DE COLÓN, PANAMÁ

Colon University Regional Center (CRUC) has one of the fragments of urban forest of the city of Colon, with high diversity of trees and shrubs, near areas adjacent to the Hydrographic Basin of the Panama Canal (Atlantic Sector); what makes the site an ideal place for studies of diversity and conservation of vertebrates. Between the months of June and August 2016, the first avifauna inventory was carried out in the CRUC, with the objective of estimating the diversity of birds. Using the point-of-counting technique, a total of 1042 individuals of 36 species were registered, distributed in 6 orders and 14 families; Being the most sighted species Quiscalus mexicanus, Thraupis episcopus, Brotogeris jugularis, Turdus grayi, Myiozetetes similis, Sicalis flaveola and Melanerpes rubricapillus. National Law and CITES II list only three of the species in Category VU: Amazona autumnalis, Brotogeris jugularis and Amazilia tzacatl. The species richness and dominance indices (Margalef, Berger Parker) indicate high diversity (5.31) and low dominance (0.14) of birds in CRUC. It is recommended to establish monitoring at other times of the year to estimate changes in the taxonomic composition recorded in this first study.El Centro Regional Universitario de Colón (CRUC) posee uno de los fragmentos de bosque urbano de la ciudad de Colón, con alta diversidad de árboles y arbustos, próximo a zonas adyacentes a la Cuenca Hidrográfica del Canal de Panamá (Sector Atlántico), lo que hace del sitio un lugar ideal para estudios de diversidad y conservación de vertebrados. Entre los meses de junio y agosto de 2016 se realizó el primer inventario avifaunístico, con el objetivo de estimar la diversidad de aves. Utilizando la técnica de punto de conteo. Se registró un total de 1042 individuos de 36 especies, distribuidas en 6 órdenes y 13 familias.; Siendo las especies más avistadas Quiscalus mexicanus, Thraupis episcopus, Brotogeris jugularis, Turdus grayi, Myiozetetes similis, Sicalis flaveola y Melanerpes rubricapillus. Sólo tres de las especies están listadas en Categoría VU por Ley Nacional y CITES II: Amazona autumnalis, Brotogeris jugularis y Amazilia tzacatl. Los índices de riqueza y dominancia (Margalef, Berger Parker) indican alta diversidad (5.31) y baja dominancia (0.14) de aves en CRUC. Se recomienda establecer monitoreos en otras épocas del año para estimar cambios en la composición taxonómica registrada en este primer estudio
