Terror Management: The Effects of Mortality Salience on Desire for Money Among Singaporeans
Terror management theory has been used to explain our penchant for materialism. While materialism includes both the desire for products and the desire for money, research has generally examined the former. Consequently, this article aimed to examine the effects of mortality salience on desire for money in Singapore. Study 1 found that mortality salience did not increase self-reported desire for money but increased the size of a drawn coin. Study 2 found that mortality salience did not increase the preferred selling price of a used laptop. Finally, Study 3 found that mortality salience did not increase the willingness to listen to unpleasant sounds in exchange for money. Furthermore, attitudes toward money did not moderate the effects of mortality salience on desire for money. The nonsignificant results could be due to data collection during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the use of a Singaporean sample. Future research directions include examining the effects of the pandemic on terror management theory research and examining both the desire for products and the desire for money concurrently as dependent variables
Positive Self-Concept In Liz Murray’s Breaking Night (2010): A Humanistic Psychological Approach
This Study is about Positive Self-Concept in Liz Murray’s Breaking Night (2010) directed by Liz Murray which is analyzed by using humanistic psychological approach. The objectives of the research is to analyze the memoir based on the structural analysis of the memoir and based on humanistic psychological approach by Carl Rogers. This research paper belongs to qualitative research. Data of the research are divided into two, primary data and secondary data. The primary data of the research is The Breaking Night memoir by author Liz Murray in 2010. While secondary data of the research are other materials taken from some books, author biographies, comments, website searching about Breaking Night Memoir that support the analysis. The method to analyze of this data is descriptive analysis.
The researcher describes two conclusions in his research. The first, based on structural analysis it shows that Liz Murray successfully combining all the structural elements of the story including character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, theme as well into unity. The second, based on humanistic psychological analysis it shows that in the Breaking Night memoir Liz Murray illustrates psychological phenomena in which in individual is someone who wants to build positive self-concept in herself with always does positive things, thinks positive and has self confidence in living life

Design and performance of beam test electronics for the PHENIX Multiplicity Vertex Detector
The system architecture and test results of the custom circuits and beam test system for the Multiplicity-Vertex Detector (MVD) for the PHENIX detector collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) are presented in this paper. The final detector per-channel signal processing chain will consist of a preamplifier-gain stage, a current-mode summed multiplicity discriminator, a 64-deep analog memory (simultaneous read-write), a post-memory analog correlator, and a 10-bit 5 {mu}s ADC. The Heap Manager provides all timing control, data buffering, and data formatting for a single 256-channel multi-chip module (MCM). Each chip set is partitioned into 32-channel sets. Beam test (16-cell deep memory) performance for the various blocks will be presented as well as the ionizing radiation damage performance of the 1.2 {mu} n-well CMOS process used for preamplifier fabrication
Neutrinos in Non-linear Structure Formation - The Effect on Halo Properties
We use N-body simulations to find the effect of neutrino masses on halo
properties, and investigate how the density profiles of both the neutrino and
the dark matter components change as a function of the neutrino mass. We
compare our neutrino density profiles with results from the N-one-body method
and find good agreement. We also show and explain why the Tremaine-Gunn bound
for the neutrinos is not saturated. Finally we study how the halo mass function
changes as a function of the neutrino mass and compare our results with the
Sheth-Tormen semi-analytic formulae. Our results are important for surveys
which aim at probing cosmological parameters using clusters, as well as future
experiments aiming at measuring the cosmic neutrino background directly.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figure
Assessing effects of behavioral intervention on treatment outcomes among patients initiating HIV care: Rationale and design of iENGAGE intervention trial
During the initial year of HIV diagnosis, while patients are often overwhelmed adjusting to this life changing diagnosis, they must develop self-care behaviors for attending regular medical care visits and antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence to achieve and sustain viral suppression (VS). Maintaining “HIV adherence” and integrating it into one's daily life is required to sustain VS over time. The HIV care continuum or “treatment cascade,” an epidemiological snapshot of the national epidemic in the United States (US), indicates that a minority of persons living with HIV (PLWH) have achieved VS. Little evidence exists regarding the effects of interventions focusing on PLWH newly initiating outpatient HIV care. An intervention that focuses on both retention in care and ART adherence skills delivered during the pivotal first year of HIV care is lacking. To address this, we developed a theory-based intervention evaluated in the Integrating Engagement and Adherence Goals upon Entry (iENGAGE) study, a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) funded randomized behavioral intervention trial. Here we present the study objectives, design and rationale, as well as the intervention components, targeting rapid and sustained VS through retention in HIV care and ART adherence during participants' first year of HIV care. The primary outcome of the study is 48-week VS (<200 c/mL). The secondary outcomes are retention in care, including HIV visit adherence and visit constancy, as well as ART adherence

On the spin distributions of CDM haloes
We used merger trees realizations, predicted by the extended Press-Schechter
theory, in order to study the growth of angular momentum of dark matter haloes.
Our results showed that: 1) The spin parameter resulting from the
above method, is an increasing function of the present day mass of the halo.

a log-normal, but, as it is already found in the results of N-body simulations,
the match is not satisfactory at the tails of the distribution. A new
analytical formula that approximates the results much more satisfactorily is

recent major mergers. Specifically the spin parameter is an increasing function

Clustering Algorithms: Their Application to Gene Expression Data
Gene expression data hide vital information required to understand the biological process that takes place in a particular organism in relation to its environment. Deciphering the hidden patterns in gene expression data proffers a prodigious preference to strengthen the understanding of functional genomics. The complexity of biological networks and the volume of genes present increase the challenges of comprehending and interpretation of the resulting mass of data, which consists of millions of measurements; these data also inhibit vagueness, imprecision, and noise. Therefore, the use of clustering techniques is a first step toward addressing these challenges, which is essential in the data mining process to reveal natural structures and iden-tify interesting patterns in the underlying data. The clustering of gene expression data has been proven to be useful in making known the natural structure inherent in gene expression data, understanding gene functions, cellular processes, and subtypes of cells, mining useful information from noisy data, and understanding gene regulation. The other benefit of clustering gene expression data is the identification of homology, which is very important in vaccine design. This review examines the various clustering algorithms applicable to the gene expression data in order to discover and provide useful knowledge of the appropriate clustering technique that will guarantee stability and high degree of accuracy in its analysis procedure
