A New Epigeous Species of Troglobius (Collembola: Paronellidae: Cyphoderinae) from Brazil and Notes on the Chaetotaxy of the Genus

Troglobius albertonoi sp. nov. (Collembola: Paronellidae: Cyphoderinae) from the Brazilian Amazon is described and illustrated. The shape of the mucro and unguis resemble those of T. ferroicus Zeppelini, Silva & Palacios-Vargas, recently described from Brazil, but the chaetotaxy is distinct. This is the 4th species of the genus and the 3rd from Brazil. Variation within the genus Troglobius of the dorsal chaetotaxy and the geographic distribution are discussed, and an identification key to the species is provided. Troglobius albertonoi sp. nov. is the only known epigeous species of the genus

Um sistema de informação geográfica na web para auxiliar pesquisas biológicas sobre a fauna ameaçada de extinção

Os recursos naturais, assim como a sua exaustão, constituem um tópico de importância capital na atualidade.A União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza criou, em 1963, um projeto que visa catalogar espéciesque apresentam algum nível de risco de extinção, através da observação de critérios referentes às suaspopulações e áreas de distribuição. Ao mesmo tempo, no Brasil, a avaliação da biodiversidade e seu statusde conservação é tema importante na agenda política nacional. Este trabalho visa oferecer à comunidadeacadêmica um sistema de informação geográfica na web que permita catalogar informações técnicas egeográficas das espécies ameaçadas de extinção de maneira simples e dinâmica, possibilitando obter resultadosmais precisos nas pesquisas biológicas. A precisão e a dinamicidade são alcançadas através da integraçãode tecnologias de banco de dados geográficos e de mapas, possibilitando ao usuário o georeferenciamentode espécies durante o processo de cadastro e de consulta. A new species of Seira (Collembola: Entomobryidae: Seirini) from the Northeastern Brazilian coastal region

Seira Lubbock, 1869 is the most speciose genus of Collembola in Brazil. Herein, we describe and illustrate a new species of Seira, Seira ritae sp. nov., collected in João Pessoa, state of Paraíba, Brazil, in an urban seaside area. The new species shows many similarities with S. mendoncea Bellini & Zeppelini, 2009 especially in what concerns the dorsal distribution of the macrochaetae of the head, the metathorax, and the first three abdominal segments. However, the two species can be distinguished by the chaetotaxy of the mesothorax and abdominal segment IV. The type locality of the species probably indicates some level of natural resistance to the impacts associated with human activities
