“Behind so many names, the sea”. Mozambique and the Indian Ocean

This chapter proposes a discussion based on a critical intersection between Indian Ocean studies and Cultural and Literary Studies in Portuguese-speaking contexts, by addressing the Indian Ocean as a critical framework for interpreting literary and visual narratives from Mozambique. Its objective is to put forward a counterpoint between literary and visual representations and thereby address the Indian Ocean as an aesthetic and epistemological paradigm in order to (re)situate the Mozambican cultural imagination, and thus, contribute to “new disciplinary developments” (Pearson, 2011) in the field of Indian Ocean studies

Escrevendo A Partir De Outras Margens. Diferença, Exceção E Tradução No Mundo De Língua Portuguesa: Contrapontos Entre Representações Literárias E Paradigmas Críticos

Translation as a conceptual framework for the study of the so-called Postcolonial Literatures represents a complex critical paradigm that opens up a number of theoretical paths with which to read and place literary representations within a global perspective. Regarding what can be defined as African Europhone Literatures (Zabus, 2007), the concept of translation offers the possibility of problematizing several critical issues, particularly those relating to questions of "cultural difference" (Bhabha, 1994) and, thus, the textual "embodiment of the other" (Ahmed, 2000). In this respect, translation becomes an operational concept not only for a textual hermeneutic, but also for a wider epistemological reflection, allowing for a discussion of paradigms that characterize the critical reception of the African novel, and therefore the very field of African literary criticism. Through the exploration of authors and texts from the so-called Lusophone African Literatures, this article aims to draw a critical journey that highlights the theoretical possibilities that the concept of translation can offer, in order to address literary representations as crucial "epistemological experiences" (Garcia Canclini, 2012, 50) with which to read and understand changes, challenges and transformations of our time.371658

The aim of this paper is to outline a critical reflection regarding the relationship between writing and orality in Lusophone African Literatures, taking as starting point the literary work of Mia Couto and counterpointing it with the literary project of other authors form Lusophone African Literatures. The reflection developed aims at underlining the plurality of critical and aesthetic understandings that define the relationship between the oral and the written, the conceptual constellations and the critical developments that the tension between writing and orality determines for the emergence of theoretical frameworks within the field of African Literary criticism.El objetivo de este ensayo es esbozar un recorrido de reflexión crítica en torno a la relación entre escritura y oralidad en las Literaturas Africanas de Lengua Portuguesa, tomando como punto de partida la obra de Mia Couto y procurando observarla en contrapunto con las propuestas estéticas de otros autores De estas mismas literaturas. O romance africano e o problema da world literature. Notas para um roteiro conceitual

O artigo apresenta um panorama conceitual sobre weltliteratur e world literature  – em suas diversas articulações – evidenciando a diversidade conceitual e metodológica que pauta estes conceitos a serem entendidos como paradigmas discursivos historicamente determinados (Pizer, 2006). Observando as transformações destes discursos, a partir de uma perspectiva diacrónica, é possível estabelecer um contraponto com os mais recentes desenvolvimentos do debate em torno da world literature, evidenciando suas potencialidade críticas e metodológicas para o estudo do romance africano contemporâneo.  Palavras-chave: weltliteratur, world literature, literatura mundo, literatura-mundial, romance africano
