Demonstration of Shor's quantum factoring algorithm using photonic qubits
We report an experimental demonstration of a complied version of Shor's
algorithm using four photonic qubits. We choose the simplest instance of this
algorithm, that is, factorization of N=15 in the case that the period and
exploit a simplified linear optical network to coherently implement the quantum
circuits of the modular exponential execution and semi-classical quantum
Fourier transformation. During this computation, genuine multiparticle
entanglement is observed which well supports its quantum nature. This
experiment represents a step toward full realization of Shor's algorithm and

Physical model for the generation of ideal resources in multipartite quantum networking
We propose a physical model for generating multipartite entangled states of
spin- particles that have important applications in distributed quantum
information processing. Our protocol is based on a process where mobile spins
induce the interaction among remote scattering centers. As such, a major
advantage lies on the management of stationary and well separated spins. Among
the generable states, there is a class of -qubit singlets allowing for
optimal quantum telecloning in a scalable and controllable way. We also show

The Co-occurrence of child and intimate partner maltreatment in the family: characteristics of the violent perpetrators
This study considers the characteristics associated with mothers and fathers who maltreat their child and each other in comparison to parents who only maltreat their child. One hundred and sixty-two parents who had allegations of child maltreatment made against them were considered. The sample consisted of 43 fathers (Paternal Family—PF) and 23 mothers (Maternal Family—MF) who perpetrated both partner and child maltreatment, together with 23 fathers (Paternal Child—PC) and 26 mothers (Maternal Child—MC) who perpetrated child maltreatment only. In addition, 2 fathers (Paternal Victim—PV) and 23 mothers (Maternal Victim—MV) were victims of intimate partner maltreatment and perpetrators of child maltreatment and 7 fathers (Paternal Non-abusive Carer—PNC) and 15 mothers (Maternal Non-abusive Carer—MNC) did not maltreat the child but lived with an individual who did. Within their family unit, 40.7% of parents perpetrated both intimate partner and child maltreatment. However, fathers were significantly more likely to maltreat both their partner and child than mothers and mothers were significantly more likely to be victims of intimate partner violence than fathers. PF fathers conducted the highest amount of physical and/or sexual child maltreatment while MC and MV mothers perpetrated the highest amount of child neglect. Few significant differences between mothers were found. PF fathers had significantly more factors associated with development of a criminogenic lifestyle than PC fathers. Marked sex differences were demonstrated with PF fathers demonstrating significantly more antisocial characteristics, less mental health problems and fewer feelings of isolation than MF mothers. MC mothers had significantly more childhood abuse, mental health problems, parenting risk factors and were significantly more likely to be biologically related to the child than PC fathers. This study suggests that violent families should be assessed and treated in a holistic manner, considering the effects of partner violence upon all family members, rather than exclusively intervening with the violent man

Global and regional effects of the photochemistry of CH_3O_2NO_2: evidence from ARCTAS
Using measurements from the NASA Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS) experiment, we show that methyl peroxy nitrate (CH_3O_2NO_2) is present in concentrations of ~5–15 pptv in the springtime arctic upper troposphere. We investigate the regional and global effects of CH_3O_2NO_2 by including its chemistry in the GEOS-Chem 3-D global chemical transport model. We find that at temperatures below 240 K inclusion of CH_3O_2NO_2 chemistry results in decreases of up to ~20 % in NO_x, ~20 % in N_2O_5, ~5 % in HNO3, ~2 % in ozone, and increases in methyl hydrogen peroxide of up to ~14 %. Larger changes are observed in biomass burning plumes lofted to high altitude. Additionally, by sequestering NO_x at low temperatures, CH_3O_2NO_2 decreases the cycling of HO_2 to OH, resulting in a larger upper tropospheric HO_2 to OH ratio. These results may impact some estimates of lightning NO_x sources as well as help explain differences between models and measurements of upper tropospheric composition
An analog fluid model for some tachyonic effects in field theory
We consider the sound radiation from an acoustic point-like source moving
along a supersonic ("space-like") trajectory in a fluid at rest. We call it an
acoustic "tachyonic" source. We describe the radiation emitted by this
supersonic source. After quantizing the acoustic perturbations, we present the
distribution of phonons generated by this classical tachyonic source and the

Anomalous Crossing Frequency in Odd Proton Nuclei
A generic explanation for the recently observed anomalous crossing
frequencies in odd proton rare earth nuclei is given. As an example, the proton
band in Ta is discussed in detail by using the
angular momentum projection theory. It is shown that the quadrupole pairing
interaction is decisive in delaying the crossing point and the changes in
crossing frequency along the isotope chain are due to the different neutron
shell fillings
Synthesis and characterisation of ruthenium complexes containing a pendent catechol ring
A series of [Ru(bipy)₂L]⁺ and [Ru(phen)₂L]⁺ complexes where L is 2-[5-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]pyridine (HL1) and 4-(5-pyridin-2-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)benzene-1,2-diol (HL2) are reported. The compounds obtained have been characterised using X-ray crystallography, NMR, UV/Vis and emission spectroscopies. Partial deuteriation is used to determine the nature of the emitting state and to simplify the NMR spectra. The acid-base properties of the compounds are also investigated. The electronic structures of [Ru(bipy)₂L1]⁺ and Ru(bipy)₂HL1]²⁺ are examined using ZINDO. Electro and spectroelectrochemical studies on [Ru(bipy)₂(L2)]⁺ suggest that proton transfer between the catechol and triazole moieties on L2 takes place upon oxidation of the L2 ligand
Locally Weyl invariant massless bosonic and fermionic spin-1/2 action in the and space-times
We search for a real bosonic and fermionic action in four dimensions which
both remain invariant under local Weyl transformations in the presence of
non-metricity and contortion tensor. In the presence of the non-metricity
tensor the investigation is extended to Weyl space-time while when
the torsion is encountered we are restricted to the Riemann-Cartan
space-time. Our results hold for a subgroup of the Weyl-Cartan
space-time and we also calculate extra contributions to the conformal gravity.Comment: 16 page
