Mg II line profiles of the Mira S Carinae

    Get PDF
High-dispersion IUE observations obtained to investigate the evolution of the shock structure of the Mira S Carinae (S Car) produced, despite very limited phase coverage, a set of five spectra of the Mg II h and k lines. There is significant emission from both the h and k lines at velocities of -150 km/sec relative to the stellar photosphere. The h-to-k ratio of the Mg II doublet remains below the theoretically predicated values of 2:1 to 1:1, and shows a smooth dependence on the optical phase. Archival studies of other Miras (e.g., R Car) indicate that S Car is not unique in possessing unusual and highly variable Mg II h and k line profiles

    Mortgage Theory of Ohio

    Get PDF
It will be the function of this paper to explore the theory of the real estate mortgage as it is being used in the confused state of Ohio. The theories will be identified and defined. From this academic introduction, practical uses of the theories will be suggested. This will be followed by an analysis of Ohio case decisions since 1929. The conclusion of this analysis will be a determination of whether the state has been consistent in its reasoning and theory

Building Contractor\u27s Liability after Completion and Acceptance

Schipper v. Levitt & Sons, Inc., held that a tract home-builder must defend his actions against the prima facie case established by an injured third party. The importance of this case lies in the application of a tort doctrine, previously applied exclusively to negligent acts by chattel manufacturers, to real property construction. This extension is shattering the ancient property concepts so much the bedrock of our Common Law. We will review that foundation and the old rules of non-liability as they concern the landowner, contractor, and third party, in order to grasp the significance of this new change in jurisprudential thought. From there, we will analyze Ohio\u27s reliance on the old and possible adoption of the new

    Ocular Effects of Whiplash

    Get PDF
The purpose of this article is to show how one may establish a cause of action for eye damages caused by whiplash trauma by presenting current medical literature which proves a cause and effect relation. Considering the vast complexity of the ocular mechanism, and its connection with the cervical spine region, a neuro-muscular-skeletal explanation of these areas will precede the medical documentation. Court decisions supporting petitions for this type of eye damage are unavailable. However, in order to show that whiplash trauma has, in the past, included some ocular disturbances, a few cases will follow the documentation in support of this thesis

    Mandamus for Zoning Appeals

    Get PDF
With the passage of chapter 2506 of the Ohio Revised Code, the legal profession in Ohio has been confused as to whether the writ of mandamus is the most effective tool for challenging and reversing a rejection for a building permit by a municipal zoning officer or board. Doubts as to its use have become solidified because of the negative results obtained in several cases which relied upon this writ. In an attempt to comprehend the future use of mandamus for zoning appeals, an analysis will be made of its past use in relation to its effectiveness under Chapter 2506 of the Revised Code

A Process Incorporating Ultrafiltration Concentrated Whey Solids Into Cheese For Increased Cheese Yield

    Get PDF
A process which incorporates whey sol ids, primarily protein, into cheese to increase cheese yield and eliminate whey handling problems was evaluated. Whey was concentrated by ultrafiltration to levels of 9.8 to 20.3 percent total solids (4.3 to 7.1 percent protein), heated at 70 C for 30 minutes and added to cheese milk with the coagulating enzyme. Increase in cheese yield, on the basis of 39 percent moisture, for 10 pairs of samples was 4.0 ± 2.8 (S.D.) percent. This increase was significant at alpha less than 0.001. Moisture and protein content increased while fat content decreased. Setting time and pH also decreased. Body/texture evaluation showed no change, but flavor scores decreased. Specific defects responsible for changes in flavor and body/texture were identified
