YOU are interested in an accounting system for your store or you would not have asked for this booklet. The aim in this Business Record System is simplicity, directness and efficiency. To carry out this same idea, we will plunge at once into the working of this system without the usual booklet preliminaries of trying to fan your emotions up to buying heat. What we want is to convince your common sense and reason in the interest of better business. This system is the result of the careful study of the needs and desires of the 20,000 representative jewelers in the United States. It was evolved in order to give facts each man needs to know. It is interpretative accounting, not mere bookkeeping or record making. Its aim is not simply to provide a way of keeping books or facts, but rather showing how to make vital facts work for your profit. Facts and figures are entered and arranged and compared in such a way that, with the least expenditure of time and energy, you can know each day what every part of your business is doing and why. You know each night, each week, each month, each year the facts you need to guide you in all your buying, your selling and your management. It is the brains of your business. It is intelligence

    特別支援教育専攻学生を対象とした障害理解のための教材開発(2)―糖尿病・血友病等の「自己注射」場面を中心にした教材―

    Get PDF

About the maximal rank of 3-tensors over the real and the complex number field

High dimensional array data, tensor data, is becoming important in recent days. Then maximal rank of tensors is important in theory and applications. In this paper we consider the maximal rank of 3 tensors. It can be attacked from various viewpoints, however, we trace the method of Atkinson-Stephens(1979) and Atkinson-Lloyd(1980). They treated the problem in the complex field, and we will present various bounds over the real field by proving several lemmas and propositions, which is real counterparts of their results.Comment: 13 pages, no figure v2: correction and improvemen

Dissecting the target specificity of RNase H recruiting oligonucleotides using massively parallel reporter analysis of short RNA motifs

Processing and post-transcriptional regulation of RNA often depend on binding of regulatory molecules to short motifs in RNA. The effects of such interactions are difficult to study, because most regulatory molecules recognize partially degenerate RNA motifs, embedded in a sequence context specific for each RNA. Here, we describe Library Sequencing (LibSeq), an accurate massively parallel reporter method for completely characterizing the regulatory potential of thousands of short RNA sequences in a specific context. By sequencing cDNA derived from a plasmid library expressing identical reporter genes except for a degenerate 7mer subsequence in the 3′UTR, the regulatory effects of each 7mer can be determined. We show that LibSeq identifies regulatory motifs used by RNA-binding proteins and microRNAs. We furthermore apply the method to cells transfected with RNase H recruiting oligonucleotides to obtain quantitative information for >15000 potential target sequences in parallel. These comprehensive datasets provide insights into the specificity requirements of RNase H and allow a specificity measure to be calculated for each tested oligonucleotide. Moreover, we show that inclusion of chemical modifications in the central part of an RNase H recruiting oligonucleotide can increase its sequence-specificity

Education in the working-class home: modes of learning as revealed by nineteenth-century criminal records

    Get PDF
The transmission of knowledge and skills within the working-class household greatly troubled social commentators and social policy experts during the first half of the nineteenth century. To prove theories which related criminality to failures in working-class up-bringing, experts and officials embarked upon an ambitious collection of data on incarcerated criminals at various penal institutions. One such institution was the County Gaol at Ipswich. The exceptionally detailed information that survives on families, literacy, education and apprenticeships of the men, women and children imprisoned there has the potential to transform our understanding of the nature of home schooling (broadly interpreted) amongst the working classes in nineteenth-century England. This article uses data sets from prison registers to chart both the incidence and ‘success’ of instruction in reading and writing within the domestic environment. In the process, it highlights the importance of schooling in working-class families, but also the potentially growing significance of the family in occupational training

Persistent Pesticides in Human Breast Milk and Cryptorchidism

INTRODUCTION: Prenatal exposure to some pesticides can adversely affect male reproductive health in animals. We investigated a possible human association between maternal exposure to 27 organochlorine compounds used as pesticides and cryptorchidism among male children. DESIGN: Within a prospective birth cohort, we performed a case–control study; 62 milk samples from mothers of cryptorchid boys and 68 from mothers of healthy boys were selected. Milk was collected as individual pools between 1 and 3 months postpartum and analyzed for 27 organochlorine pesticides. RESULTS: Eight organochlorine pesticides were measurable in all samples (medians; nanograms per gram lipid) for cases/controls: 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethylene (p,p′-DDE): 97.3/83.8; β-hexachlorocyclohexane (β-HCH): 13.6/12.3; hexachlorobenzene (HCB): 10.6/8.8; α -endosulfan: 7.0/6.7; oxychlordane: 4.5/4.1; 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (p,p′-DDT): 4.6/4.0; dieldrin: 4.1/3.1; cis-heptachloroepoxide (cis-HE): 2.5/2.2. Five compounds [octachlorostyrene (OCS); pentachlorobenzene, 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (p,p′-DDD); o,p′-DDT; mirex] were measurable in most samples (detection rates 90.8–99.2%) but in lower concentrations. For methoxychlor, cis-chlordane, pentachloroanisole (PCA), γ -HCH, 1,1-dichloro-2-(2-chlorophenyl)-2,2(4-chlorophenyl)ethane, trans-chlordane, α -HCH, and o,p′-DDE, both concentrations and detection rates were low (26.5–71.5%). Heptachlor, HCH (δ, ɛ ), aldrin, β-endosulfan and trans-heptachloroepoxide were detected at negligible concentrations and low detection rates and were not analyzed further. Seventeen of 21 organochlorine pesticides [p,p′-DDT, p,p′-DDE, p,p′-DDD, o,p′-DDT, HCH (α , β, γ ), HCB, PCA, α -endosulfan, cis-HE, chlordane (cis-, trans-) oxychlordane, methoxychlor, OCS, and dieldrin] were measured in higher median concentrations in case milk than in control milk. Apart from trans-chlordane (p = 0.012), there were no significant differences between cryptorchid and healthy boys for individual chemicals. However, combined statistical analysis of the eight most abundant persistent pesticides showed that pesticide levels in breast milk were significantly higher in boys with cryptorchidism (p = 0.032). CONCLUSION: The association between congenital cryptorchidism and some persistent pesticides in breast milk as a proxy for maternal exposure suggests that testicular descent in the fetus may be adversely affected
