    Triatomic continuum resonances for large negative scattering lengths

    We study triatomic systems in the regime of large negative scattering lengths which may be more favorable for the formation of condensed trimers in trapped ultracold monoatomic gases as the competition with the weakly bound dimers is absent. The manipulation of the scattering length can turn an excited weakly bound Efimov trimer into a continuum resonance. Its energy and width are described by universal scaling functions written in terms of the scattering length and the binding energy, B3B_3, of the shallowest triatomic molecule. For a1<0.0297mB3/2a^{-1}<-0.0297 \sqrt{m B_3/\hbar^2} the excited Efimov state turns into a continuum resonance.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Optimization of spray-drying process for concentrated orange juice

    Response surface methodology was used to optimize spray-drying process for concentrated orange juice. Independent variables were: inlet air temperature (130–170 ºC) and maltodextrin 12DE content (60–75% wet basis (wb)). Responses variables were powder yield, moisture, and ascorbic acid retention. Moisture content was negatively affected by inlet air temperature, while ascorbic acid retention was directly related. Powder yield and ascorbic acid retention increased with the rise in maltodextrin content, while moisture content was negatively affected by maltodextrin content. Multiple response optimisation indicated that an inlet air temperature of 155 ºC and maltodextrin content of 74% wb were predicted to provide 77% powder yield, 3.7% wb moisture content, and 89% ascorbic acid retention

    Crystallized and fluid intelligence are predicted by microstructure of specific white-matter tracts

    Studies of the neural basis of intelligence have focused on comparing brain imaging variables with global scales instead of the cognitive domains integrating these scales or quotients. Here, the relation between mean tract‐based fractional anisotropy (mTBFA) and intelligence indices was explored. Deterministic tractography was performed using a regions of interest approach for 10 white‐matter fascicles along which the mTBFA was calculated. The study sample included 83 healthy individuals from the second wave of the Cuban Human Brain Mapping Project, whose WAIS‐III intelligence quotients and indices were obtained. Inspired by the “Watershed model” of intelligence, we employed a regularized hierarchical Multiple Indicator, Multiple Causes model (MIMIC), to assess the association of mTBFA with intelligence scores, as mediated by latent variables summarizing the indices. Regularized MIMIC, used due to the limited sample size, selected relevant mTBFA by means of an elastic net penalty and achieved good fits to the data. Two latent variables were necessary to describe the indices: Fluid intelligence (Perceptual Organization and Processing Speed indices) and Crystallized Intelligence (Verbal Comprehension and Working Memory indices). Regularized MIMIC revealed effects of the forceps minor tract on crystallized intelligence and of the superior longitudinal fasciculus on fluid intelligence. The model also detected the significant effect of age on both latent variables

    Ultrastructural Analysis of Enamel Formation During in vitro Development Using Chemically-Defined Medium

    To test the hypothesis that enamel biomineralization is regulated by sequential expression of an intrinsic genetic program, we designed experiments to determine if a serumless, chemically-defined medium is permissive for position-dependent ameloblast differentiation and subsequent enamel tissue-specific biomineralization in vitro. In the absence of serum or other exogenous growth factors, Swiss Webster strain mouse embryonic (15-and 16-days gestation) mandibular first molar tooth organs (cap stage) developed within 21 days in vitro into well-defined molar tooth organs expressing dentine and enamel biomineralization. Analysis of data obtained from von Kossa histochemistry for calcium salt formation, as well as ultrastructural information obtained from x-ray microanalysis, electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy documented tissue-specific patterns of calcium hydroxyapatite formation in the absence of scrum within organotypic cultures in vitro.     Structure of exotic three-body systems

    The classification of large halos formed by two identical particles and a core is systematically addressed according to interparticle distances. The root-mean-square distances between the constituents are described by universal scaling functions obtained from a renormalized zero-range model. Applications for halo nuclei, 11^{11}Li and 14^{14}Be, and for atomic 4^4He3_3 are briefly discussed.     Unilateral subthalamotomy in Parkinson's disease: Cognitive, psychiatric and, neuroimaging changes

    Unilateral subthalamotomy is an effective treatment for the cardinal motor features of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, non-motor changes possibly associated with right or left subthalamotomy remain unknown. Our aim was to assess cognitive, psychiatric and neuroimaging changes after treatment with unilateral subthalamotomy. Fourteen medicated patients with PD were evaluated before and after (mean 6 months after operation) unilateral subthalamotomy (5 right, 9 left). In addition to motor assessments, cognitive (global cognition and executive functions), psychiatric (apathy, depression, anxiety, mania, hypo- and hyperdopaminergic behaviours, impulsivity), quality of life evaluations and volume of lesions were obtained. After surgery, significant improvement of motor signs was observed. Unilateral subthalamotomy improved general cognitive status, but left subthalamotomy reduced semantic verbal fluency compared to the pre-operative state. Depression and quality of life were improved with both right and left subthalamotomy. However, hyper-emotionality was present after surgery and right subthalamotomy increased impulsivity and disinhibition (on NeuroPsychiatric Inventory and Ardouin Scale for Behaviour in PD), a result linked to larger lesion volumes. We conclude that unilateral subthalamotomy is effective for treating the cardinal motor features of PD and improves mood. Right subthalamotomy is associated with greater risk of impulsivity and disinhibition, while left subthalamotomy induces further impairment of semantic verbal fluency

    The cuisine of product: hallmark and communication resource in the haute cuisine in Spain

    Introducción: Esta investigación analiza los mensajes transmitidos por la alta restauración española al objeto de valorar cómo la cocina de producto es utilizada como seña de identidad gastronómica y recurso comunicativo. Metodología: La muestra la componen los restaurantes más relevantes del país en la modalidad culinaria de cocina de producto y aquellos con dos y tres estrellas otorgadas por La Guía Michelin en el año 2018; en total, han sido cuarenta y nueve. Resultados y conclusiones: La mayoría de los restaurantes de producto consideran en su comunicación los elementos materia prima, especialización y tradición; los de vanguardia eligen innovación, materia prima y tradición, de manera que hay coincidencias en los dos últimos, lo que podría significar que la identidad gastronómica es un concepto que, transmitido en sus mensajes, puede asimilarse al de identidad territorial.Introduction: This research analyses the messages transmitted by the Spanish haute cuisine in order to assess how the product-based cuisine is used as a symbol of gastronomic identity and communication resource. Methodology: The sample is composed of the most important restaurants in the country in the culinary modality of product-based cuisine and those with two and three stars awarded by the Michelin Guide in 2018; a total of forty-nine. Results and conclusions: Most of the product-based restaurants consider the elements raw material, specialization and tradition in their communication; those in the avant-garde choose innovation, raw materials and tradition instead, so that there are coincidences in the last two, which could mean that the gastronomic identity is a concept that, conveyed through its messages, can be assimilated to that of territorial identity

    Universality in Four-Boson Systems

    We report recent advances on the study of universal weakly bound four-boson states from the solutions of the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations with zero-range two-body interactions. In particular, we present the correlation between the energies of successive tetramers between two neighbor Efimov trimers and compare it to recent finite range potential model calculations. We provide further results on the large momentum structure of the tetramer wave function, where the four-body scale, introduced in the regularization procedure of the bound state equations in momentum space, is clearly manifested. The results we are presenting confirm a previous conjecture on a four-body scaling behavior, which is independent of the three-body one. We show that the correlation between the positions of two successive resonant four-boson recombination peaks are consistent with recent data, as well as with recent calculations close to the unitary limit.
