Successful use and safety of secukinumab in psoriatic patients with periodontitis: a valid therapeutic option
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease, affecting the tissues surrounding the teeth. Periodontitis may be linked to other diseases such as chronic obstructive airways disease, chronic kidney disease, cognitive impairment, metabolic syndrome, some types of cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis.Secukinumab is a valid therapeutic option for psoriatic patients with a recent diagnosis of periodontitis. Further studies are needed to better investigate the role of anti-IL-17 in patients with periodontal diseases
Incidence of supernumerary nipples in a large population, with relative dermoscopic and clinic-pathologic features: an update and a fast approach
Accessory nipples (AN) are solitary or multiple rudimentary nipples developing along the vertical embryonic milk-lines. AN involve 1-6% of the population and affects both genders equally. In some cases, AN clinically suggest either dermatofibroma or melanocytic lesions. It is important recognize AN, since it can be associated with underlying internal malignancies such as seminoma, renal adenocarcinoma as well as breast cancer, melanoma or Paget’s disease may develop within AN. For this reason an accurate analysis of AN is mandatory in order to avoid clinic-pathologic pitfalls
Melanonychia induced by venlafaxine hydrochloride
Melanonychia is a diagnostic challenge for clinicians. The most serious disease of the nail unit is subungual melanoma (SM), which primarily shows longitudinal melanonychia (LM). However, only 6.8% cases of LM show histologic evidence of SM.
Other diseases that could mimic SM include subungual hematoma, nail matrix nevus, trauma, nail apparatus lentigo and druginduced LM
Acral pseudolymphomatous angiokeratoma of children (APACHE): Dermoscopic features and successful treatment with CO2 laser
Acral pseudolymphomatous angiokeratoma of children (APACHE) is clinically characterized by angiomatous papules that preferentially
affect acral areas of children. Although initially considered to be a type of vascular malformation, it is now being classified as a distinct type of pseudo-lymphoma.Acral pseudolymphomatous angiokeratoma of children (APACHE) is clinically characterized by angiomatous papules that preferentially affect acral areas of children. Successful treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum with anakinra in a patient with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
Successful treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum with anakinra in a patient with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
Pilot Study on the Use of the "Monocyte-Rich" Platelet-Rich Plasma in Combination with 1927 nm Fractional and 308 nm Excimer Lasers for the Treatment of Vitiligo
Background and objectives: Vitiligo is an acquired chronic and idiopathic skin disorder, characterized by selective loss of melanocytes and resulting in a cutaneous depigmentation. Treatment for vitiligo remains a challenge for dermatologists; thus, it is frustrating both for physicians and patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate a combination treatment characterized by the use of a leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma, which is particularly rich in monocytes (defined here as monocyte-rich PRP), in combination with a 1927 nm fraxel laser and a 308 nm excimer laser. Materials and Methods: Treatment with monocyte-rich PRP combined with 1927 nm fraxel laser and 308 nm excimer laser was performed in nine sessions in 80 days and the median follow-up of the patients was 10 months. A total of 27 Caucasian patients were included in the present study. The median age of patients was 41 years, ranging between 20 and 69 years. Results: A re-pigmentation occurred in 16 cases (59%) with a reduction of the Vitiligo Extent Score (VES) and absence of re-pigmentation in untreated areas. Performing a rank correlation between VES and re-pigmentation in the treated areas, we found that there was a significant correlation (p < 0.0001). The presence of progressive vitiligo (p = 0.1) and the anatomic areas (p = 0.1) did not influence the treatment. Untreated areas did not show any improvement of the depigmented lesions, except in one case (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: in this report, we show for the first time how PRP rich in monocytes, in combination with laser therapies, gives a long therapeutic response, which persists even after 10 months of follow-u
Basal cell carcinoma in post-traumatic scar successfully treated with thulium laser and photodynamic therapy
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation (UV) is one major risk factor for BCC. Other less common risk factors are ionizing radiation, arsenic exposure, genetic alterations, skin trauma and skin scars. Several therapies could be used to manage BCC, including conventional surgery, Mohs’ surgery, cryosurgery, photodynamic therapy (PDT), and CO2 laser. In this report, PDT was performed after local pretreatment with thulium 1927 nm laser, enhancing the aminolevulinic acid (MAL) absorption and increasing the penetration depth of irradiation
Spontaneous regression of primary melanoma and multiple melanocytic nevi in a patient with metastatic melanoma
Regression within cutaneous melanoma has been previously described as a spontaneous or therapy-induced phenomenon,
driven by the activation of the immune system. However, simultaneous development of regression in both melanoma
and multiple melanocytic nevi is an extremely rare event, having been reported only twice in the literature
