Online Testing of Real-Time Systems Using UPPAAL: Status and Future Work

    Get PDF
We present TUPPAAL --- a new tool for online black-box testing of real-time embedded systems from non-deterministic timed automata specifications. We describe a sound and complete randomized online testing algorithm, and describe how to implement it using symbolic state representation and manipulation techniques. We propose the notion of relativized timed input/output conformance as the formal implementation relation. A novelty of this relation and our testing algorithm is that they explicitly take environment assumptions into account, generate, execute and verify the result online using the UPPAAL on-the-fly model-checking tool engine. A medium size case study shows promising results in terms of error detection capability and computation performance

Learning Markov Decision Processes for Model Checking

Constructing an accurate system model for formal model verification can be both resource demanding and time-consuming. To alleviate this shortcoming, algorithms have been proposed for automatically learning system models based on observed system behaviors. In this paper we extend the algorithm on learning probabilistic automata to reactive systems, where the observed system behavior is in the form of alternating sequences of inputs and outputs. We propose an algorithm for automatically learning a deterministic labeled Markov decision process model from the observed behavior of a reactive system. The proposed learning algorithm is adapted from algorithms for learning deterministic probabilistic finite automata, and extended to include both probabilistic and nondeterministic transitions. The algorithm is empirically analyzed and evaluated by learning system models of slot machines. The evaluation is performed by analyzing the probabilistic linear temporal logic properties of the system as well as by analyzing the schedulers, in particular the optimal schedulers, induced by the learned models.Comment: In Proceedings QFM 2012, arXiv:1212.345

In this paper we present a framework, an algorithm and a new tool for online testing of real-time systems based on symbolic techniques used in UPPAAL model checker. We extend UPPAAL timed automata network model to a test specification which is used to generate test primitives and to check the correctness of system responses including the timing aspects. We use timed trace inclusion as a conformance relation between system and specification to draw a test verdict. The test generation and execution algorithm is implemented as an extension to UPPAAL and experiments carried out to examine the correctness and performance of the tool. The experiment results are promising

    Danfoss EKC Trial Project Deliverables

This report documents the results of the Danfoss EKC trial project on model based development using IAR visualState. We present a formal state-model of a refrigeration controller based on a specification given by Danfoss. We report results on modeling, verification, simulation, and code-generation. It is found that the IAR visualState is a promising tool for this application domain, but that improvements must be done to code-generation and automatic test generation

Observations of the Habits of \u3ci\u3eCorthylus Punctatissimus\u3c/i\u3e (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) Infesting Maple Saplings in Central Michigan

Corthylus punctatissimus, the pitted ambrosia beetle, infested and killed maple saplings that were 3-12 years of age with a basal diameter of 4-14 mm. The habits of the parental pair of adults are described. The beetles construct a spiral gallery system with about five egg niches per host. Half the brood reaches adult stage during the summer with a sex ratio of 1:1. No relationship was found between the number of niches, length of gallery system, or diameter of stem

Monitoring Dynamical Signals while Testing Timed Aspects of a System

Abstract. We propose to combine timed automata and linear hybrid automata model checkers for formal testing and monitoring of embedded systems with a hybrid behavior, i.e., where the correctness of the system depends on discrete as well as continuous dynamics. System level testing is considered, where requirements capture abstract behavior and often include non-determinism due to parallelism, internal counters and subtle state of physical materials. The goal is achieved by integrating the tools Uppaal [2] and PHAVe
