    Get PDF
This paper describes a new genus and a new species of Euptychiina from open grassland habitats (campos de cima da serra) in southern Brazil. The systematic position of this new taxon is discussed based on morphological and molecular data, and it is considered sister to Taydebis Freitas. Since the campos vegetation is considered endangered due to anthropogenic activities, this butterfly species deserves attention and should be included in future conservation plans for this biome.40231-

A two-step factorial design for optimization of protein extraction from industrial rapeseed meal after ethanol-assisted reduction of antinutrients

Rapeseed meal is a by-product of oil production with relatively high antinutrient content which limits its application in both feed and food industries. A two-step procedure, including two-level full factorial and central composite designs, was used to assess the influence of five factors namely pH (6 and 12), temperature (20 and 40 degrees C), NaCl concentration (0 and 7.5%), rapeseed meal concentration (2.5 and 5%), and extraction longevity (15 and 60 min) on protein extraction from industrial rapeseed meal subjected to ethanol-assisted reduction of antinutrients. Data demonstrated that pH and its interaction with NaCl influenced protein extractability the most. While still significant, individual effects of NaCl, extraction longevity, temperature and its interaction with pH had a less significant effect on protein yield. Overall. higher protein yields were obtained in response to combining high pH values with low NaCl concentrations, and high pH values with high temperatures. The highest protein yield (59.56 +/- 1.29%) was achieved after extraction of 5% ethanol-treated rapeseed meal at pH 12 with no NaCl addition, at 40 degrees C and extraction longevity of 60 min. A second-order polynomial model for protein yield prediction was generated. The adequacy of the model was verified by coefficient of determination and residual analyses. A high correlation between experimentally obtained and predicted protein yields (R-2 = 0.95) was established. Since extraction conditions are strong determinants of protein characteristics, the predictive model generated in the present work is useful for the selection of factor combinations, which allows for the achievement of optimal protein yield of a product with desired techno-functional properties.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Piezoelectric and optical response of uniaxially stretched (VDF/TrFE) (75/25) copolymer films

The phase diagram of the poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluorethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) copolymer system shows for VDF contents of 50...85 mol% a ferroelectric (FE)-paraelectric (PE) phase transition below melting temperature. Investigations on P(VDF-TrFE) 75/25 samples revealed a slight anisotropic behaviour, which leads to a strongly anisotropic stretching effect both on the phase transition and on the amount and nature of the FE phase in samples subjected to mechanical stretching along the main directions of the film. In this work, both the refractive index n1,2 and the piezoelectric coefficient d33 of mechanically stretched P(VDF-TrFE) have been measured for samples with different levels of permanent deformation. These parameters are found to reflect the anisotropy of the permanently deformed samples. The stretching effect is most pronounced (n1,2) or limited (d33) to the vicinity of the yielding point of the material. Above the yielding point, almost the piezoelectric d33 coefficient of the non-deformed sample is observed for samples with large permanent deformation.

[Evaluation of the use prostaglandin in synchronization the estrus associated or not the hCG in goats]

A Generalization of Quantum Stein's Lemma

    Get PDF
We present a generalization of quantum Stein's Lemma to the situation in which the alternative hypothesis is formed by a family of states, which can moreover be non-i.i.d.. We consider sets of states which satisfy a few natural properties, the most important being the closedness under permutations of the copies. We then determine the error rate function in a very similar fashion to quantum Stein's Lemma, in terms of the quantum relative entropy. Our result has two applications to entanglement theory. First it gives an operational meaning to an entanglement measure known as regularized relative entropy of entanglement. Second, it shows that this measure is faithful, being strictly positive on every entangled state. This implies, in particular, that whenever a multipartite state can be asymptotically converted into another entangled state by local operations and classical communication, the rate of conversion must be non-zero. Therefore, the operational definition of multipartite entanglement is equivalent to its mathematical definition.Comment: 30 pages. (see posting by M. Piani arXiv:0904.2705 for a different proof of the strict positiveness of the regularized relative entropy of entanglement on every entangled state). published version

A new and rare actinote hübner (Lepidoptera : Nymphalidae: Heliconiinae : Acraeini) from southeastern Brazil

The present paper describes a new species of Actinote (Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae, Acraeini), Actinote keithbrowni Freitas, Francini & Mielke sp. nov., from southeastern Brazil, based on morphological and molecular data. The new species is very similar in wing pattern to Actinote eberti, within what we term the “light-gray mimicry complex.” The host plants and immature stages of the new species are unknown. Actinote keithbrowni sp. nov. is one of the rarest species of Actinote from Brazil: in total, only eight individuals of this species are known from a narrow region of the Itatiaia massif despite years of collecting effort in that region since the 1940s495696703CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQCOORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DE PESSOAL DE NÍVEL SUPERIOR - CAPESFUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - FAPESP303834/2015-3; 304639/2014-20012011/50225-3; 2013/50297-0; 2015/24663-4AVLF acknowledges support from Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo – (FAPESP) (Biota-Fapesp grants 2011/50225-3, 2013/50297-0) and from the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) (303834/2015-3). Entanglement as a quantum order parameter

    Get PDF
We show that the quantum order parameters (QOP) associated with the transitions between a normal conductor and a superconductor in the BCS and eta-pairing models and between a Mott-insulator and a superfluid in the Bose-Hubbard model are directly related to the amount of entanglement existent in the ground state of each system. This gives a physical meaningful interpretation to these QOP, which shows the intrinsically quantum nature of the phase transitions considered.Comment: 5 pages. No figures. Revised version.
