    Triplectic Quantization of W2 gravity

    Get PDF
The role of one loop order corrections in the triplectic quantization is discussed in the case of W2 theory. This model illustrates the presence of anomalies and Wess Zumino terms in this quantization scheme where extended BRST invariance is represented in a completely anticanonical form.Comment: 10 pages, no figure

Harmonic Superspace Gaugeon Formalism for the ABJM Theory

In this paper we will analyse the ABJM theory in harmonic superspace. The harmonic superspace variables will be parameterized by the coset SU(2)/U(1)SU(2)/U(1) and thus will have manifest N=3\mathcal{N} =3 supersymmetry. We will study the quantum gauge transformations and the BRST transformations of this theory in gaugeon formalism. We will use this BRST symmetry to project out the physical sub-space from the total Hilbert space. We will also show that the evolution of the S\mathcal{S}-matrix is unitary for this ABJM theory in harmonic superspace.Comment: 11, pages, 0 figures, accepted for publication in Mod. Phys. Lett.

Dengue disease, basic reproduction number and control

Dengue is one of the major international public health concerns. Although progress is underway, developing a vaccine against the disease is challenging. Thus, the main approach to fight the disease is vector control. A model for the transmission of Dengue disease is presented. It consists of eight mutually exclusive compartments representing the human and vector dynamics. It also includes a control parameter (insecticide) in order to fight the mosquito. The model presents three possible equilibria: two disease-free equilibria (DFE) and another endemic equilibrium. It has been proved that a DFE is locally asymptotically stable, whenever a certain epidemiological threshold, known as the basic reproduction number, is less than one. We show that if we apply a minimum level of insecticide, it is possible to maintain the basic reproduction number below unity. A case study, using data of the outbreak that occurred in 2009 in Cape Verde, is presented.Comment: This is a preprint of a paper whose final and definitive form has appeared in International Journal of Computer Mathematics (2011), DOI: 10.1080/00207160.2011.55454

A Case of Concurrent Riedel's, Hashimoto's and Acute Suppurative Thyroiditis

    Get PDF
Riedel's thyroiditis (RT) is a rare form of infiltrative and inflammatory disease of the thyroid, first described by Bernard Riedel in 1896. The concurrent presence of RT and other thyroid diseases has been reported, but, the association of RT with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and acute thyroiditis has not yet been reported. We present a case of concurrent Riedel's, Hashimoto's and acute thyroiditis that occurred in a 45-year-old patient

ABSTRACT - The study was carried out in MossorĂł, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte and had as objectives to identify morphometrical data from species of Eimeria genus, to determine occurrence and respective frequencies in young and adult animals, as well as to compare infection intensity in different species. Twenty ranches were visited and feces from 478 animals from both sexes were examined, being 218 under 12 months of age and 260 adults. Eimeria oocysts were found in all surveyed properties, infecting 92.47% of examined animals. Young goats were more affected (95.41%) and shed higher quantities of oocysts in feces than adult animals. Adults presented also high percentages of infection (90.00%). It was not observed any clinical symptoms in the animals. Nine species of Eimeria were identified, presenting the following percentages for young and adult animals, respectively: E. arloingi (37.75%, 42.22%), E. alijevi (14.15%, 10.85%), E. hirci (9.25%, 13.95%), E. jolchijevi (13.6%, 2.47%); E. caprina (7.55%, 8.31%), E. christensen (9.05%, 6.89%), E. caprovina (5.20%, 9.26%), E. ninakohlyakimovae (3.05%, 5.63%) and E. apsheronica (0.45%, 0.54%). E. arloingi was the most frequent species found independently of hosts age

Covariant path integral for chiral p-forms

    Get PDF
The covariant path integral for chiral bosons obtained by McClain, Wu and Yu is generalized to chiral p-forms. In order to handle the reducibility of the gauge transformations associated with the chiral p-forms and with the new variables (in infinite number) that must be added to eliminate the second class constraints, the field-antifield formalism is used.Comment: revtex, 9 pages, submitted to Physical Review

Stellar populations in the ELT perspective

We discuss the impact that the next generation of Extremely Large Telescopes will have on the open astrophysical problems of resolved stellar populations. In particular, we address the interplay between multiband photometry and spectroscopy.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures.
