Treatment of patients with hyperbaric oxygen in the department of hyperbaric medicine in MBAL Varna VMA
Slowly but surely, hyperbaric oxygenation is established as a method of treatment for many diseases. Aim of our work is to present the experience of the Department of hyperbaric medicine at VMA MBAL Varna in the treatment of patients with Hyperbaric Oxygen. The study covers the period 1992-2011. A multiplace hyperbaric chamber at a pressure of 2 to 2.8 ATA 100% oxygen is used. It is analyzed distribution of patients passed through the department by years and nosological units. It is concluded that it has gained solid experience, which is a good basis for further development and expansion of indications for hyperbaric oxygenation. Neurofibromas in otorhinolaryngology. Literature review presentation of a rare clinical case of intramastoid solitary neurofibroma
Neurofibromas are precancerous neoplasms originating from the sheaths of peripheral nerves with a slow growth rate. A large proportion of cases (90%) are solitary tumors, while the rest (10%) are associated with the manifestation of neurofibromatosis type 1 (Morbus Recklinghausen) - an autosomal dominant genetic inherited disease. This type of tumor is relatively rare in the head and neck region. It involves mainly the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the trunkus, and represents about 5% of all benign soft tissue neoplasms. In the available english articles 22 cases of intratemporal solitary neurofibroma have been reported of which only 2 were intramastoid. We present a rare clinical case of a solitary intramastoid neurofibroma in a 39-year-old woman mimicking the clinical representation of latent mastoiditis with a brief literature review

The maritime medicine as a free elective course for medical students at the Medical University - Varna
From the countries in Southeast Europe, only in Bulgaria, at the Medical University - Varna (MU-Varna) there is a training in the discipline "Maritime Medicine". The course is revealed by the Academic Board of the MU-Varna on 26 March 2007 at the initiative of assoc. prof. Hristo Bozov, MD, PhD, and with the support of Prof. Anelia Klisarova, MD, PhD, DSc - Rector of MU-Varna. For a short period of three years a team of doctors and other professionals succeeded in meeting the public need for the creation and development of this new medical discipline. The course includes 24 lectures and 6 practical classes. Speakers and instructors are lecturers from the Medical university -Varna, the Naval hospital - Varna to the Military Medical Academy (MMA - Varna), the Naval Academy - Varna (NA-Varna), the Naval Forces, the Naval Base - Varna and the Bulgarian Red Cross - Varna (BRC). It is held with great interest by students and ends with a 2-days rowing march to Tsonevo dam, together with the marina "Varna - S.T." and the medical university club "Sky and tourism". The new course will be conducted during the summer semester of the academic year 2010-2011 and the expecting volunteers have been are already enrolled

Patterned immobilization of polyoxometalate-loaded mesoporous silica particles via amine-ene Michael additions on alkene functionalized surfaces
Polyoxometalates (POM) are anionic oxoclusters of early transition metals that are of great interest for a variety of applications, including the development of sensors and catalysts. A crucial step in the use of POM in functional materials is the production of composites that can be further processed into complex materials, e.g. by printing on different substrates. In this work, we present an immobilization approach for POMs that involves two key processes: first, the stable encapsulation of POMs in the pores of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSPs) and, second, the formation of microstructured arrays with these POM-loaded nanoparticles. Specifically, we have developed a strategy that leads to water-stable, POM-loaded mesoporous silica that can be covalently linked to alkene-bearing surfaces by amine-Michael addition and patterned into microarrays by scanning probe lithography (SPL). The immobilization strategy presented facilitates the printing of hybrid POM-loaded nanomaterials onto different surfaces and provides a versatile method for the fabrication of POM-based composites. Importantly, POM-loaded MSPs are useful in applications such as microfluidic systems and sensors that require frequent washing. Overall, this method is a promising way to produce surface-printed POM arrays that can be used for a wide range of applications
