Run-Time Selection of Coordination Mechanisms in Multi-Agent Systems
This paper presents a framework that enables autonomous agents to dynamically select the mechanism they employ in order to coordinate their inter-related activities. Adopting this framework means coordination mechanisms move from the realm of being imposed upon the system at design time, to something that the agents select at run-time in order to fit their prevailing circumstances and their current coordination needs. Empirical analysis is used to evaluate the effect of various design alternatives for the agent's decision making mechanisms and for the coordination mechanisms themselves
Cataract prevalence, cataract surgical coverage and barriers to uptake of cataract surgical services in Pakistan: the Pakistan National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey.
AIM: To estimate the prevalence of visual impairment and blindness caused by cataract, the prevalence of aphakia/pseudophakia, cataract surgical coverage (CSC) and to identify barriers to the uptake of cataract services among adults aged >or=30 years in Pakistan. METHODS: Probability proportional-to-size procedures were used to select a nationally representative sample of adults. Each subject underwent interview, visual acuity measurement, autorefraction, biometry and ophthalmic examination. Those that saw <6/12 in either eye underwent a more intensive examination procedure including corrected visual acuity, slit lamp and dilated fundus examination. CSC was calculated for different levels of visual loss by person and by eye. Individuals with <6/60 in the better eye as a result of cataract were interviewed regarding barriers. RESULTS: 16 507 Adults were examined (95.5% response rate). The crude prevalence of blindness (presenting <3/60 in the better eye) caused by bilateral cataract was 1.75% (95% CI 1.55%, 1.96%). 1317 Participants (633 men; 684 women) had undergone cataract surgery in one or both eyes, giving a crude prevalence of 8.0% (95% CI 7.6%, 8.4%). The CSC (persons) at <3/60, <6/60 and <6/18 were 77.1%, 69.3% and 43.7%, respectively. The CSC (eyes) at <3/60, <6/60 and <6/18 were 61.4%, 52.2% and 40.7%, respectively. Cost of surgery (76.1%) was the main barrier to surgery. CONCLUSION: Approximately 570 000 adults are estimated to be blind (<3/60) as a result of cataract in Pakistan, and 3,560000 eyes have a visual acuity of <6/60 because of cataract. Overall, the national surgical coverage is good but underserved populations have been identified
THE EFFECTS OF UPLEDGER CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY ON POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER SYMPTOMATOLOGY IN VIETNAM COMBAT VETERANS
The Upledger Institute has provided rwo week intensive treatment for Vietnam veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as diagnosed by the Veteran's Affairs (VA) medical division. These patients received psychological evaluation tests at the times of entry and exit into and out of the program. The intensive treatment was about six-seven hours per day for eight full days, with approximately three-four hours on the first and last days of the program. The therapy used was primarily CranioSacral Therapy and its progeny Energy Cyst Release, SomatoEmotional Release and Therapeutic Imagery and Dialogue. The results obtained strongly suggest that PTSD may be more successfully treated when the thetapy includes corrections of the craniosacral system, the release of foreign energies and conscious-nonconscious integration

The Growing-Block view of time has some problems with the past. It is committed to the existence of the past, but needs to say something about the difference between the past and present. I argue that we should resist Correia and Rosenkranzâ (Oxford studies in metaphysics, vol 8, pp 333â350, 2013) response to Braddon-Mitchellâs (Analysis 64:199â203, 2004) argument that the Growing-Block leads to scepticism about whether we are present. I consider an approach, similar to Peter Forrest (Analysis 64:358â362, 2004), and show it is not so counter-intuitive as Braddon-Mitchell suggests and further show that it requires no âsemantic and metaphysical gymnasticsâ, as Chris Heathwood (Analysis 65:249â251, 2005) has suggested. In doing these things I make the problem of the past on the Growing-Block view a problem in its history, not its present
Generalized Interpolation Material Point Approach to High Melting Explosive with Cavities Under Shock
Criterion for contacting is critically important for the Generalized
Interpolation Material Point(GIMP) method. We present an improved criterion by
adding a switching function. With the method dynamical response of high melting
explosive(HMX) with cavities under shock is investigated. The physical model
used in the present work is an elastic-to-plastic and thermal-dynamical model
with Mie-Gr\"uneissen equation of state. We mainly concern the influence of
various parameters, including the impacting velocity , cavity size , etc,
to the dynamical and thermodynamical behaviors of the material. For the
colliding of two bodies with a cavity in each, a secondary impacting is
observed. Correspondingly, the separation distance of the two bodies has a
maximum value in between the initial and second impacts. When the
initial impacting velocity is not large enough, the cavity collapses in a
nearly symmetric fashion, the maximum separation distance increases
with . When the initial shock wave is strong enough to collapse the cavity
asymmetrically along the shock direction, the variation of with
does not show monotonic behavior. Our numerical results show clear indication
that the existence of cavities in explosive helps the creation of ``hot

The VANDELS survey: Dust attenuation in star-forming galaxies at
We present the results of a new study of dust attenuation at redshifts based on a sample of star-forming galaxies from the VANDELS
spectroscopic survey. Motivated by results from the First Billion Years (FiBY)
simulation project, we argue that the intrinsic spectral energy distributions
(SEDs) of star-forming galaxies at these redshifts have a self-similar shape
across the mass range log probed by
our sample. Using FiBY data, we construct a set of intrinsic SED templates
which incorporate both detailed star formation and chemical abundance
histories, and a variety of stellar population synthesis (SPS) model
assumptions. With this set of intrinsic SEDs, we present a novel approach for
directly recovering the shape and normalization of the dust attenuation curve.
We find, across all of the intrinsic templates considered, that the average
attenuation curve for star-forming galaxies at is similar in shape
to the commonly-adopted Calzetti starburst law, with an average
total-to-selective attenuation ratio of . We show that the
optical attenuation () versus stellar mass () relation
predicted using our method is consistent with recent ALMA observations of
galaxies at in the \emph{Hubble} \emph{Ultra} \emph{Deep} \emph{Field}
(HUDF), as well as empirical relations predicted by a
Calzetti-like law. Our results, combined with other literature data, suggest
that the relation does not evolve over the redshift range
, at least for galaxies with log.
Finally, we present tentative evidence which suggests that the attenuation

Information-Seeking Behaviours in Australian Sexual Minority Men Engaged in Chemsex
Introduction: Chemsex refers to using illicit substances to facilitate sexual experiences in men who have sex with men. Chemsex has been linked to significant negative impacts on psychological, social, and physical wellbeing. Little is known about information-seeking behaviours in this population. This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of seeking and engaging with health information. Methods: Self-identified Australian sexual minority men who engage in chemsex (N = 184) participated in an anonymous cross-sectional survey. Variables included chemsex engagement, knowledge, perception and use of harm-reduction information, and associated health and support services. Pearson correlation and ANOVAs were conducted. Wilcoxon-Signed-Rank and Friedman tests were applied to analyse the perceived trustworthiness of information sources. Results: Chemsex represented a meaningful part of sexual events. Most participants knew where to access professional help and harm-reduction information but worried about being judged. Most did not feel comfortable discussing chemsex with health professionals except with sexual health doctors/counsellors. Few users discussed health risks with a professional. Information on chemsex was received through multiple sources with significant differences in perceived relevance and trustworthiness, with sexual health doctors/nurses ranked the most trustworthy information. Interest in non-traditional sources of information was low except for formal peer networks and anonymous personal expert advice. Conclusion: Engagement with health professionals and harm-reduction information is limited in this population, despite high risk and potentially significant adverse health outcomes. Results suggest that new and combined approaches are necessary to reach this population, including peer support networks, anonymous personal advice and changing community attitudes towards chemsex.</p
