LIDAR studies on microbursts
Preliminary analysis of requirements for future airborne windshear detection systems is presented. The following topics are covered: flight mechanics; microbursts modeling; microburst detection with airborne systems (LIDAR, radar, passive IR sensors); microbursts prediction with ground systems (VHF interferometry). A short overview of these studies is presented and some results are discussed
A Revised Textual Tree Trace Notation for Prolog
This paper describes a ''textual tree trace'' (TTT) notation for representing the execution of Prolog programs. Compact, textual and non-linear, it provides detailed information about variable binding and execution history, and distinguishes several modes of goal failure. The revised form given here, yet to be empirically tested, is partly informed by Paul Mulholland's empirical comparisons of Prolog trace notations, in which an earlier version of the TTT notation was amongst those studied and criticised. The work presented here is an updated version of a previous workshop paper (Taylor, du Boulay, & Patel, 1994)

Comparison of Contrasting Prolog Trace Output Formats
This paper reports on a comparative study of three Prolog trace packages. 43 students of an introductory Prolog course solved 5 different Prolog programming problems in each of three different conditions (using isomorphic problem variants to disguise recurring tasks). Each of the three conditions provided subjects with static screen-snapshot-mockups derived from one of three different trace packages (''conventional'' Spy; ''graphical AND/OR tree-based'' TPM*; ''informative textual'' EPTB). When tracers explicitly displayed the information asked for in the problem, subjects solved the problems more quickly. Conversely, when trace output obscured the required information (or necessitated difficult detective work to uncover the information), solution times were longer and answers less accurate. Deciding on a ''good'' format for display is thus a task-dependent decision, and impacts directly on the user's cognitive ability to solve a problem
Où se crée la valeur ? Une application de l’analyse de Porter aux filières du végétal spécialisé
Cet article a pour objectif de montrer l'intérêt d'aborder la question de la création de valeur dans une perspective inter-organisationnelle alors que la plupart des travaux s'attachent à appliquer à l'entreprise vue de manière isolée le cadre conceptuel de la chaîne de valeur. Pour ce faire, une étude empirique a été réalisée auprès de 45 organisations situées aux différents niveaux de quatre filières du secteur du végétal spécialisé. Les résultats obtenus suggèrent que l'appartenance à une filière est une source de création de valeur. Ils doivent toutefois être nuancés afin de tenir compte des spécificités des différents modes de production, de commercialisation et de distribution qui ont pu être observés

A Scoping Review of Digital Gaming Research Involving Older Adults Aged 85 and Older
Background: Interest in the use of digital game technologies by older adults is growing across disciplines from health and gerontology to computer science and game studies. The objective of this scoping review was to examine research evidence involving the oldest old (persons 85 years of age or greater) and digital game technology.
Materials and Methods: PubMed, CINHAL, and Scopus were searched, and 46 articles were included in this review.
Results: Results highlighted that 60 percent of articles were published in gerontological journals, whereas only 8.7 percent were published in computer science journals. No studies focused directly on the oldest old population. Few studies included sample sizes greater than 100 participants. Seven primary and 34 secondary themes were identified, of which Hardware Technology and Assessment were the most common.
Conclusions: Existing evidence demonstrates the paucity of studies engaging older adults 85 years of age and above regarding the use of digital gaming and highlights a new understudied cohort for further research focus. Recommendations for future research include intentional recruitment and proportionate representation of participants ≥85 years of age, large sample sizes, and explicit mention of specific numbers of participants ≥85 years of age, which are necessary to advance knowledge in this area. Integrating a rigorous and robust mixed-methods approach including theoretical perspectives would lend itself to further in-depth understanding and knowledge generation in this field
The novel mTOR inhibitor RAD001 (Everolimus) induces antiproliferative effects in human pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor cells
Background/Aim: Tumors exhibiting constitutively activated PI(3) K/Akt/mTOR signaling are hypersensitive to mTOR inhibitors such as RAD001 (everolimus) which is presently being investigated in clinical phase II trials in various tumor entities, including neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). However, no preclinical data about the effects of RAD001 on NET cells have been published. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of RAD001 on BON cells, a human pancreatic NET cell line that exhibits constitutively activated PI(3) K/Akt/mTOR signaling. Methods: BON cells were treated with different concentrations of RAD001 to analyze its effect on cell growth using proliferation assays. Apoptosis was examined by Western blot analysis of caspase-3/PARP cleavage and by FACS analysis of DNA fragmentation. Results: RAD001 potently inhibited BON cell growth in a dose-dependent manner which was dependent on the serum concentration in the medium. RAD001-induced growth inhibition involved G0/G1-phase arrest as well as induction of apoptosis. Conclusion: In summary, our data demonstrate antiproliferative and apoptotic effects of RAD001 in NET cells in vitro supporting its clinical use in current phase II trials in NET patients.
