First results of systematic studies done with different types of Silicon Photomultipliers
The presented results are obtained during the first steps taken in order to
develop a setup and measurement procedures which allow to compare properties of
diverse kinds of silicon photomultipliers. The response to low-intensity light
was studied for silicon photomultipliers produced by CPTA (Russia), Hamamatsu

Moving an incisor across the midline: A treatment alternative in an adolescent patient
A 13-year-old sought treatment for a severely compromised maxillary left central incisor and an impacted fully developed left canine. Extraction of both teeth became necessary. As the key component of the revised comprehensive treatment plan, the right maxillary central incisor was moved into the position of the left central incisor. All other maxillary teeth were moved mesially to close any gaps. Active orthodontic treatment was completed after 34 months. Frenectomy, minor periodontal surgeries, and bonded lingual retainers were used to improve aesthetics and stabilize the tooth positions. The patient was pleased with the treatment outcome. Cone-beam computed tomography provided evidence that the tooth movement was accompanied by a deviation of the most anterior portion of the median palatine suture. This observation may make relapse more likely if long-term retention cannot be ensured. Root resorption was not observed as a consequence of the major tooth movement. Bonding with Self-etching Primers – Pumice or Pre-etch? An \u3cem\u3ein vitro\u3c/em\u3e Study
The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths (SBSs) of orthodontic brackets bonded with self-etching primer (SEP) using different enamel surface preparations. A two-by-two factorial study design was used. Sixty human premolars were harvested, cleaned, and randomly assigned to four groups (n = 15 per group). Teeth were bathed in saliva for 48 hours to form a pellicle. Treatments were assigned as follows: group 1 was pumiced for 10 seconds and pre-etched for 5 seconds with 37 per cent phosphoric acid before bonding with SEP (Transbond Plus). Group 2 was pumiced for 10 seconds before bonding. Group 3 was pre-etched for 5 seconds before bonding. Group 4 had no mechanical or chemical preparation before bonding. All teeth were stored in distilled water for 24 hours at 37°C before debonding. The SBS values and adhesive remnant index (ARI) score were recorded. The SBS values (±1 SD) for groups 1–4 were 22.9 ± 6.6, 16.1 ± 7.3, 36.2 ± 8.2, and 13.1 ± 10.1 MPa, respectively. Two-way analysis of variance and subsequent contrasts showed statistically significant differences among treatment groups. ARI scores indicated the majority of adhesive remained on the bracket for all four groups. Pre-etching the bonding surface for 5 seconds with 37 per cent phosphoric acid, instead of pumicing, when using SEPs to bond orthodontic brackets, resulted in greater SBSs

Test and Modelling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Durability: A Focus on Interconnect Role on Global Degradation
High-temperature fuel cells are a promising technology due to their high energy efficiency and low environmental impacts compared to conventional engines. Nevertheless, they have a limited lifetime which reduces the use to a few application fields. Among them, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have had a recent development at the industrial level in two possible configurations: an-ode-and electrolyte-supported design. Considering the impossibility to experimentally distinguish the effects of every degradation mechanism on global cell performance, each layer should be tested singularly through ex situ tests and then assembled into a virgin cell to evaluate its role on the whole system by in situ tests. However, this procedure results as quite complex, and some further micro-structural changes could occur during cell sintering. In order to overcome these constraints, the proposed approach paired ex situ experimental observations on a single element with modelling results on global SOFC. As a case study, CoMnO/Crofer22 APU and CuMnO/AISI 441 interconnect samples were tested, measuring their resistance variation for some hundreds of hours, followed by a detailed post-mortem microstructural analysis. Based on a previously validated local model, SIMFC (SIMulation of Fuel Cells), the durability of commercial anode-and electrolyte-supported cells was simulated, adding specific degradation functions only for the interconnects in order to highlight their influence on SOFC performance
On the existence of star products on quotient spaces of linear Hamiltonian torus actions
We discuss BFV deformation quantization of singular symplectic quotient
spaces in the special case of linear Hamiltonian torus actions. In particular,
we show that the Koszul complex on the moment map of an effective linear
Hamiltonian torus action is acyclic. We rephrase the nonpositivity condition of
Arms, Gotay and Jennings for linear Hamiltonian torus actions. It follows that

Approach to a rational rotation number in a piecewise isometric system
We study a parametric family of piecewise rotations of the torus, in the
limit in which the rotation number approaches the rational value 1/4. There is
a region of positive measure where the discontinuity set becomes dense in the
limit; we prove that in this region the area occupied by stable periodic orbits
remains positive. The main device is the construction of an induced map on a
domain with vanishing measure; this map is the product of two involutions, and
each involution preserves all its atoms. Dynamically, the composition of these
involutions represents linking together two sector maps; this dynamical system
features an orderly array of stable periodic orbits having a smooth parameter
