    Get PDF
Ethnomedicinal field survey was conducted in few places of Sonitpur district and near by areas of Lakhimpur district of Assam, where diverse ethnic groups are living since time immemorial. The ethnic groups have very rich tradition of herbal medicines used in the treatment of various ailments. Among the tribal communities, Mishings constitute the largest group along with Bodos. The ethnomedicinal information was collected on the basis of interview and field studies with local healers among those communities. The identification of medicinal plants collected with help of indigenous healers was done. Such medicines have been shown to have significant healing power, either in their natural state or as the source of new products processed by them. Generally these formulations of crude products are considered moderate in efficacy and thus less toxic than most pharmaceutical agents. Our study is mainly concentrated with plants used in relation to cure of diabetes. In our report detail note on the method of preparation of precise dose, the part/parts of plants used and method of application is given. Scientific name, vernacular names and family names of collected plants are also given in the report

The minor carp, Aspidoparia morar is a benthopelagic fish belonging to the sub-family Danioninae under the family Cyprinidae. It has emerged as the single most dominant species in the river Brahmaputra in Assam. In the present study, 240 specimens were collected from Guwahati and Tezpur in the Brahmaputra River and Silchar in the Barak River to investigate the morphometric and meristic variation among the populations. For this a total of 20 morphometric traits and 11 meristic traits were studied. The mean lengths for most of the morphometric traits were higher for the Barak River except eye diameter, inter orbital length and anal fin length which were significantly higher on the Brahmaputra River, while the post orbital length and pelvic fin length were found to be almost equal. The regressions of standard length with all the morphometric traits except pelvic fin length, pelvic fin base, pectoral fin length, dorsal fin length, anal fin length, pre orbital length, post orbital length, inter orbital length and eye diameter showed significant variation between the rivers. Two meristic traits viz. branched rays in anal fin and gill rakers on the first gill arch also showed significant variation in the samples of the rivers

Unexpected deviation from diene behaviour of uracil amidine: Towards synthesis of some pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives

Condensation products obtained from the treatment of uracil amidine with preformed or in situ generated suitably substituted olefins unexpectedly undergo intramolecular cyclisation during silica gel chromatography to generate pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines. ynthesis, characterisation and thermal studies of ruthenium(II) carbonyl complexes of functionalised tripodal phosphine chalcogen donor ligands, [CH3C(CH2P(X)Ph2)3], where X = Se, S, O

diphenylphosphinomethyl) ethane trichalcogenide ligands, [CH3C(CH2P(X)Ph2)3], where X= Se(a), S(b) and O(c) in 1:1 (metal:ligand) molar ratio to afford hexa-coordinated complexes of the type 2-(X,X)- [Ru(CO)2Cl2P3X3] (1a–c). The complexes 1a–c exhibit two equally intense (CO) bands in the range 1979–2060cm−1 indicating cis-disposition of the two terminal carbonyl groups. The values of (CO) frequencies containing different ligands, in general, follow the order: P3O3 >P3S3 >P3Se3 which may be explained in terms of ‘Soft–Hard’ (Ru(II)–O) and ‘Soft–Soft’ (Ru(II)–S/Se) interactions. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, mass, 1H, 31P, 77Se and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The thermal stability of the complexes has also been studie

Dicarbonylrhodium(I) complexes of pyridine alcohol ligands and their catalytic carbonylation reaction

Reaction of dimeric complex [Rh(CO)2Cl]2 with two molar equivalent of pyridine alcohol ligands (L) like 2-hydroxymethylpyridine (a), 3-hydroxymethylpyridine (b) and 4-hydroxymethylpyridine (c) afford the rhodium(I) dicarbonyl complexes [Rh(CO)2ClL](1a–c). The ligands are coordinated to the metal center through N-donor site. The complexes 1 undergo oxidative addition (OA) reactions with various alkyl halides (RI) like CH3I, C2H5I to produce Rh(III)complexes of the type [Rh(CO)(COR)IClL], where R = –CH3(2), –C2H5(3). Kinetic data for the reaction of 1 with CH3I indicate a first order reaction. The catalytic activity of the complexes 1 in the carbonylation of methanol was higher than that of the well known species [Rh(CO)2I2]−

Thermal stress impaired expression of insulin-like growth factor binding proteins in pigs

This study aimed to investigate the correlation of IGFs, IGFBPs, and IGFBPRs of grower pigs with change in temperature humidity index (THI). THI was calculated to know the months of the year when pigs feel discomfort and samples of feed offered were analyzed to know the nutritional availability/deficit. The calculated average THI was above thermal comfort zone for seven months in a year. It was observed that crude protein (CP) and metabolizable energy (ME) availability to pigs were deficient. Gilts of two months age and similar body weight were randomly divided into two groups (n=6); viz. Con-fed animals (feed offered by the farmer) and For-fed animals (formulated feed supplement + Con-fed). The composition of formulated feed supplement was dried leaf of Moringa oleifera, soybean meal, rice mill waste, and mineral mixture. The plasma cortisol level increased in the experimental animals with accelerated THI as evidenced by the strong positive correlation of THI with HSP70 and HSP90. The level of leptin and ghrelin did not have significant relation with the expression level of HSPs in the present study, however, in the control animals, a low level of leptin was observed. The correlation between the growth factors and HSPs was not significant. During the season, where the THI was above the thermal comfort zone, the IGFBPR and IGFBP concentrations were non-significantly increased along with the increased THI

Constrained analytical interrelations in neutrino mixing

Hermitian squared mass matrices of charged leptons and light neutrinos in the flavor basis are studied under general additive lowest order perturbations away from the tribimaximal (TBM) limit in which a weak basis with mass diagonal charged leptons is chosen. Simple analytical expressions are found for the three measurable TBM-deviants in terms of perturbation parameters appearing in the neutrino and charged lepton eigenstates in the flavor basis. Taking unnatural cancellations to be absent and charged lepton perturbation parameters to be small, interrelations are derived among masses, mixing angles and the amount of CP-violation.Comment: To be published in the Springer Proceedings in the Physics Series under the heading of the XXI DAE-BRNS Symposium (Guwahati, India

Cleaning of Indian coals by agglomeration with xylene and hexane

    Get PDF
A laboratory scale agglomeration process has been undertaken for cleaning Indian coals using oils namely, xylene and hexane. Maximum organic matter recovery for xylene has been found to be 91.9% whereas with hexane, the value is 54.7% on a dry basis. The highest ash rejection values with xylene (90.7%) and with hexane (89.7%) are almost same. Promising results for rejection of metals (Fe, Mg and Zn) have been observed. It has been found that xylene is more selective than hexane for the agglomeration process. Knowledge gained from this study will be helpful for technological advancement of this kind of work
