Ultra-high, broadband gain in a lattice-engineered, Yb-doped double tungstate channel waveguide
150 dB/cm gain over 55 nm wavelength range between 977-1032 nm is obtained in a 47.5% Yb-doped potassium double tungstate waveguide amplifier. The dependence of luminescence lifetime and gain on Yb concentration is investigated

Flipped classroom based on objective structured clinical examinations analysis by undergraduate students of Pharmacology course from the Podiatry Degree improve their learning and assessment communication skills about medicines
Comunicación cartel con defensa oralWe aim to evaluate the impact of the individual and in-group analysis of OSCEs (filmed by other students) looking for correct and incorrect behaviours and contents in their learning of pharmacology.
Summary of work and outcomes: A 5-year prospective study in which students of Pharmacology course from the Podiatry Degree analysed filmed OSCEs individually and in a group in a flipped classroom. Each group (max 5 students) analysed along 1 week a filmed OSCE, prepare a summary of correct and incorrect items related to clinical events, medicines uses, and people behaviours. The students presented their analysis results to the rest of the class. After each presentation, the other students of the class were encouraged to ask questions and after that, the students voluntarily answered a satisfaction survey.
Result and Discussion: 405 students, 65.2% female, 20±5.3 years old were included. Students spend 13.4±5.4 h on making the filmed-OSCE analysis. The percentage of students satisfied with this way of studying pharmacology was 96.5%. OSCEs analysis by students increased their percentage of success in the final assessment in both OSCEs-related and OSCEs-non-related questions (+18.5% and +10.1%).
Conclusion: Filmed Objective Structured Clinical Examinations analysis by undergraduate students on the Pharmacology course of Podiatry Degree improved their knowledge about medicines use and their communication skills during the assessment.
Comparison of charge modulations in LaBaCuO and YBaCuO
A charge modulation has recently been reported in (Y,Nd)BaCuO
[Ghiringhelli {\em et al.} Science 337, 821 (2013)]. Here we report Cu
edge soft x-ray scattering studies comparing the lattice modulation associated
with the charge modulation in YBaCuO with that associated with
the well known charge and spin stripe order in LaBaCuO.
We find that the correlation length in the CuO plane is isotropic in both
cases, and is \AA for LaBaCuO and \AA for YBaCuO. Assuming weak inter-planar correlations of
the charge ordering in both compounds, we conclude that the order parameters of
the lattice modulations in LaBaCuO and
YBaCuO are of the same order of magnitude.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
The relation between segment disclosure and earnings quality
We investigate the relation between segment disclosure and earnings quality. Using a US sample for the period 2001-2006, we find a positive relation between earnings quality and the quantity of segment disclosures. We use lead-lag tests to examine the flow of causality, and our results show that current segment disclosure is positively related to prior levels of earnings quality, while current earnings quality scores are not related to prior levels of segment disclosure. Thus, the causality flows from earnings quality to segment disclosure. Our results hold for both business and geographic segment disclosure. We acknowledge financial assistance from the Spanish Ministry of Innovation and Science (ECO2010-19314, ECO2008-06238-C02-01/ECON, SEJ2007-67582-C02-02/ECON, ECO2009-10796 and Consolider Grant #2006/04046/002), the European Commission INTACCT Research Training Network (MRTN-CT-2006-035850), and the government of the autonomous Community of Madrid (Grant # 2008/00037/001)
