Reconstructing Supersymmetry at ILC/LHC
Coherent analyses of experimental results from LHC and ILC will allow us to
draw a comprehensive and precise picture of the supersymmetric particle sector.
Based on this platform the fundamental supersymmetric theory can be
reconstructed at the high scale which is potentially close to the Planck scale.
This procedure will be reviewed for three characteristic examples: minimal
supergravity as the paradigm; a left-right symmetric extension incorporating
intermediate mass scales; and a specific realization of string effective

On the gravitational wave background from compact binary coalescences in the band of ground-based interferometers
This paper reports a comprehensive study on the gravitational wave (GW)
background from compact binary coalescences. We consider in our calculations
newly available observation-based neutron star and black hole mass
distributions and complete analytical waveforms that include post-Newtonian
amplitude corrections. Our results show that: (i) post-Newtonian effects cause
a small reduction in the GW background signal; (ii) below 100 Hz the background
depends primarily on the local coalescence rate and the average chirp
mass and is independent of the chirp mass distribution; (iii) the effects of
cosmic star formation rates and delay times between the formation and merger of
binaries are linear below 100 Hz and can be represented by a single parameter
within a factor of ~ 2; (iv) a simple power law model of the energy density
parameter up to 50-100 Hz is sufficient to be used
as a search template for ground-based interferometers. In terms of the
detection prospects of the background signal, we show that: (i) detection (a
signal-to-noise ratio of 3) within one year of observation by the Advanced LIGO
detectors (H1-L1) requires a coalescence rate of for binary neutron stars (binary black holes); (ii) this limit on
could be reduced 3-fold for two co-located detectors, whereas the
currently proposed worldwide network of advanced instruments gives only ~ 30%
improvement in detectability; (iii) the improved sensitivity of the planned
Einstein Telescope allows not only confident detection of the background but
also the high frequency components of the spectrum to be measured. Finally we
show that sub-threshold binary neutron star merger events produce a strong
foreground, which could be an issue for future terrestrial stochastic searches

Reconstruction of Fundamental SUSY Parameters
We summarize methods and expected accuracies in determining the basic
low-energy SUSY parameters from experiments at future ee linear
colliders in the TeV energy range, combined with results from LHC. In a second
step we demonstrate how, based on this set of parameters, the fundamental
supersymmetric theory can be reconstructed at high scales near the grand
unification or Planck scale. These analyses have been carried out for minimal
supergravity [confronted with GMSB for comparison], and for a string effective

IMPROVED MUSCLE ACTIVATION IN PERFORMING A BODY WEIGHT LUNGE COMPARED TO THE TRADITIONAL BACK SQUAT
The purpose of this study was to examine the muscle activity during the body weight lunge and back squat at three depths, 90°, 60°, and 30°. Eight female collegiate athletes volunteered for the study. Each participant performed 5 squats at each depth and the body weight lunge. Surface EMG data and video were recorded to analyze the motion. The lunge activated most of the lower muscles greater than the squat. Sport performance is often initiated from a ready stance, similar to that of the squat however, upon movement the athlete typically steps into a lunged position. Therefore, with the similarities in sport motion to that of the lunge, and equal if not greater activation of the lower extremity, the lunge is an ideal activity to train athletes
Squark and slepton masses as probes of supersymmetric SO(10) unification
We carry out an analysis of the non-universal supersymmetry breaking scalar
masses arising in SO(10) supersymmetric unification. By considering patterns of
squark and slepton masses, we derive a set of sum rules for the sfermion masses
which are independent of the manner in which SO(10) breaks to the Standard
Model gauge group via its SU(5) subgroups. The phenomenology arising from such
non-universality is unaffected by the symmetry breaking pattern, so long as the
breaking occurs via any of the SU(5) subgroups of the SO(10) group.Comment: 15 pages using RevTe
An epidemiological study of neuropathic pain symptoms in Canadian adults
The reported prevalence of neuropathic pain ranges from 6.9% to 10%; however the only Canadian study reported 17.9%. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiology of neuropathic pain in Canada. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a random sample of Canadian adults. The response rate was 21.1% (1504/7134). Likely or possible neuropathic pain was defined using a neuropathic pain-related diagnosis and a positive outcome on the Self-Report Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs pain scale (S-LANSS) or the Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) Questions. The prevalence of likely neuropathic pain was 1.9% (S-LANSS) and 3.4% (DN4) and that of possible neuropathic pain was 5.8% (S-LANSS) and 8.1% (DN4). Neuropathic pain was highest in economically disadvantaged males. There is a significant burden of neuropathic pain in Canada. The low response rate and a slightly older and less educated sample than the Canadian population may have led to an overestimate of neuropathic pain. Population prevalence varies by screening tool used, indicating more work is needed to develop reliable measures. Population level screening targeted towards high risk groups should improve the sensitivity and specificity of screening, while clinical examination of those with positive screening results will further refine the estimate of prevalence
Strategic Cognitive Maps of Small Business Leaders
Cognitive maps influence organizational strategic behaviors by guiding the perceptions of key decisions makers. This paper empirically examines these maps in small business leaders who have the ability to strongly influence an organization's attributes and actions. Results demonstrate that two distinct and polar orientations develop from small business leaders' self-identity with their organization, overall assessments of external stakeholders, and general perceptions of the environment. The strategic implications of these findings suggest that small business leaders should be mindful of their own viewpoints and biases since they can greatly influence organizational behaviors and subsequent performance
Multiple scattering of matter waves: an analytic model of the refractive index for atomic and molecular gases
We present an analytic model of the refractive index for matter waves
propagating through atomic or molecular gases. The model, which combines a WKB
treatment of the long range attraction with the Fraunhofer model treatment of
the short range repulsion, furnishes a refractive index in compelling agreement
with recent experiments of Jacquey et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 240405 (2007)]
on Li atom matter waves passing through dilute noble gases. We show that the
diffractive contribution, which arises from scattering by a two dimensional
"hard core" of the potential, is essential for obtaining a correct imaginary
