Quasi-Normal Modes of a Schwarzschild White Hole
We investigate perturbations of the Schwarzschild geometry using a
linearization of the Einstein vacuum equations within a Bondi-Sachs, or null
cone, formalism. We develop a numerical method to calculate the quasi-normal
modes, and present results for the case . The values obtained are
different to those of a Schwarzschild black hole, and we interpret them as
quasi-normal modes of a Schwarzschild white hole.Comment: 5 pages, 4 Figure
Discrete Nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger Breathers in a Phonon Bath
We study the dynamics of the discrete nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger lattice
initialized such that a very long transitory period of time in which standard
Boltzmann statistics is insufficient is reached. Our study of the nonlinear
system locked in this {\em non-Gibbsian} state focuses on the dynamics of
discrete breathers (also called intrinsic localized modes). It is found that
part of the energy spontaneously condenses into several discrete breathers.
Although these discrete breathers are extremely long lived, their total number
is found to decrease as the evolution progresses. Even though the total number
of discrete breathers decreases we report the surprising observation that the
energy content in the discrete breather population increases. We interpret
these observations in the perspective of discrete breather creation and
annihilation and find that the death of a discrete breather cause effective
energy transfer to a spatially nearby discrete breather. It is found that the
concepts of a multi-frequency discrete breather and of internal modes is
crucial for this process. Finally, we find that the existence of a discrete
breather tends to soften the lattice in its immediate neighborhood, resulting
in high amplitude thermal fluctuation close to an existing discrete breather.
This in turn nucleates discrete breather creation close to a already existing
discrete breather

Intrinsic localized modes in the charge-transfer solid PtCl
We report a theoretical analysis of intrinsic localized modes in a
quasi-one-dimensional charge-transfer-solid (PtCl). We discuss strongly nonlinear features of resonant Raman
overtone scattering measurements on PtCl, arising from quantum intrinsic
localized (multiphonon) modes (ILMs) and ILM-plus-phonon states. We show, that
Raman scattering data displays clear signs of a non-thermalization of lattice
degrees-of-freedom, manifested in a nonequilibrium density of intrinsic
localized modes.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, REVTE
Bridging the Gap between Probabilistic and Deterministic Models: A Simulation Study on a Variational Bayes Predictive Coding Recurrent Neural Network Model
The current paper proposes a novel variational Bayes predictive coding RNN
model, which can learn to generate fluctuated temporal patterns from exemplars.
The model learns to maximize the lower bound of the weighted sum of the
regularization and reconstruction error terms. We examined how this weighting
can affect development of different types of information processing while
learning fluctuated temporal patterns. Simulation results show that strong
weighting of the reconstruction term causes the development of deterministic
chaos for imitating the randomness observed in target sequences, while strong
weighting of the regularization term causes the development of stochastic
dynamics imitating probabilistic processes observed in targets. Moreover,
results indicate that the most generalized learning emerges between these two
extremes. The paper concludes with implications in terms of the underlying
neuronal mechanisms for autism spectrum disorder and for free action.Comment: This paper is accepted the 24th International Conference On Neural
Information Processing (ICONIP 2017). The previous submission to arXiv is
replaced by this version because there was an error in Equation
Hover performance tests of baseline metal and Advanced Technology Blade (ATB) rotor systems for the XV-15 tilt rotor aircraft
Rotor hover performance data were obtained for two full-scale rotor systems designed for the XV-15 Tilt Rotor Research Aircraft. One rotor employed the rectangular planform metal blades (rotor solidity = 0.089) which were used on the initial flight configuration of the XV-15. The second rotor configuration examined the nonlinear taper, composite-construction, Advanced Technology Blade (ATB), (rotor solidity = 0.10) designed to replace the metal blades on the XV-15. Variations of the baseline ATB tip and cuff shapes were also tested. A new six-component rotor force and moment balance designed to obtain highly accurate data over a broad range of thrust and torque conditions is described. The test data are presented in nondimensional coefficient form for the performance results, and in dimensional form for the steady and alternating loads. Some wake and acoustic data are also shown
Theory of Bubble Nucleation and Cooperativity in DNA Melting
The onset of intermediate states (denaturation bubbles) and their role during
the melting transition of DNA are studied using the Peyrard-Bishop-Daxuois
model by Monte Carlo simulations with no adjustable parameters. Comparison is
made with previously published experimental results finding excellent
agreement. Melting curves, critical DNA segment length for stability of bubbles
and the possibility of a two states transition are studied.Comment: 4 figures. Accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter
