This study was completed as a systematic review looking into effective self-care for those working with trauma and at risk populations. This study looked into how compassion fatigue can be combated by compassion satisfaction. By workers actively and effectively practicing self-care they are able to increase their own compassion satisfaction, which allows them to fight off both compassion fatigue and burnout. This study was able to identify exercise, spirituality, mindfulness, and personal support all as popular and effective self-care strategies commonly used by mental workers

One of the pleasures of being a legal historian concerned with topics from the Early Modern period is the possibility to get to handle and work with historical books, often originals printed in the 16th and 17th century. Too often, we tend to concentrate exclusively on the content of a book, not taking into account the wealth of information stemming from the materiality of the book: who printed it, how it was printed, and how the materials carrying all the precious content were produced. Between the 15th and 17th century, the largest part of paper for the many book prints of Venice was produced in a small valley near Lake Garda, known until this day as the Valley of Papermills, the Valle delle Cartiere

Jhering's concept of Rechtsgefühl and its role in "The struggle for law"

    Get PDF
The paper examines the doctrine of "Rechtsgefühl" as developed by the famous Pandectist and legal empiricist Rudolf von Jhering. The iridescent concept of Rechtsgefühl is discussed extensively and impressively in the literature, but Jhering's key contribution usually receives only cursory mention. This paper is intended to show the great significance of Jhering's Rechtsgefühl, particularly its role in his lecture The Struggle for Law. Rechtsgefühl, as Jhering conceives it, combines a practical consideration of individual cases, a reflection of the purposes of law and the experience of the observer. It is the essence of what Jhering understands by living legal doctrine and the progress of law

The banking industry in the United States has held many forms and has faced differing su pervision and regulation, especially during the past decade. Beginning in 1991 with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act (FDICIA), then the Reigle-Neal Act of 1994, and the Financial Modernization Act (FMA) of 1999, the United States banking structure has undergone several key systematic changes. The rationale for these changes was to accelerate the trend towards a financial system that is more integrated in terms of activities and products. However, there is much debate over these improvements and their effects on bank behavior in regards to risk taking, concentration of power, and the safety of consumers’ monies
