    The rationale of the present study was to examine the relationships among high school EFL teachers sense of self-efficacy emotional intelligence and pedagogical success of Ginbot20 Amber and Gojjam Ber high school EFL teachers N 25 To this end three different types of questionnaires EIS TSES and CSTQ and four statistical tools mean correlation ANOVA and regression were occupied The findings of the mean revealed that EFL teachers in the study fall short of the expectation of practicing the affective competencies Further there was also significant correspondences among most sub constructs of emotional intelligence self-efficacy and pedagogical success however there were some sub constructs correlated insignificantly for instance instructional strategy with pedagogical knowledge as p 0 05 In addition motivating oneself associated with instructional strategies and classroom management slightly Finally it was found that emotional intelligence and selfefficacy sub constructs such as empathy handling relationships self-awareness classroom management and students engagement are the variables significantly adding anything to the prediction of pedagogical success The ANOVA table depicts F 13 807 and its significant value is 0 000 showing high significant which indicates that the combination of the Predictors significantly predict pedagogical success In this study it was recommended that the affective competences that is EI and TSE should be included in CPD activitie

    Self-correcting Bayesian target tracking

    The copyright of this thesis rests with the author and no quotation from it or information derived from it may be published without the prior written consent of the authorAbstract Visual tracking, a building block for many applications, has challenges such as occlusions,illumination changes, background clutter and variable motion dynamics that may degrade the tracking performance and are likely to cause failures. In this thesis, we propose Track-Evaluate-Correct framework (self-correlation) for existing trackers in order to achieve a robust tracking. For a tracker in the framework, we embed an evaluation block to check the status of tracking quality and a correction block to avoid upcoming failures or to recover from failures. We present a generic representation and formulation of the self-correcting tracking for Bayesian trackers using a Dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN). The self-correcting tracking is done similarly to a selfaware system where parameters are tuned in the model or different models are fused or selected in a piece-wise way in order to deal with tracking challenges and failures. In the DBN model representation, the parameter tuning, fusion and model selection are done based on evaluation and correction variables that correspond to the evaluation and correction, respectively. The inferences of variables in the DBN model are used to explain the operation of self-correcting tracking. The specific contributions under the generic self-correcting framework are correlation-based selfcorrecting tracking for an extended object with model points and tracker-level fusion as described below. For improving the probabilistic tracking of extended object with a set of model points, we use Track-Evaluate-Correct framework in order to achieve self-correcting tracking. The framework combines the tracker with an on-line performance measure and a correction technique. We correlate model point trajectories to improve on-line the accuracy of a failed or an uncertain tracker. A model point tracker gets assistance from neighbouring trackers whenever degradation in its performance is detected using the on-line performance measure. The correction of the model point state is based on the correlation information from the states of other trackers. Partial Least Square regression is used to model the correlation of point tracker states from short windowed trajectories adaptively. Experimental results on data obtained from optical motion capture systems show the improvement in tracking performance of the proposed framework compared to the baseline tracker and other state-of-the-art trackers. The proposed framework allows appropriate re-initialisation of local trackers to recover from failures that are caused by clutter and missed detections in the motion capture data. Finally, we propose a tracker-level fusion framework to obtain self-correcting tracking. The fusion framework combines trackers addressing different tracking challenges to improve the overall performance. As a novelty of the proposed framework, we include an online performance measure to identify the track quality level of each tracker to guide the fusion. The trackers in the framework assist each other based on appropriate mixing of the prior states. Moreover, the track quality level is used to update the target appearance model. We demonstrate the framework with two Bayesian trackers on video sequences with various challenges and show its robustness compared to the independent use of the trackers used in the framework, and also compared to other state-of-the-art trackers. The appropriate online performance measure based appearance model update and prior mixing on trackers allows the proposed framework to deal with tracking challenges

    Hydration Kinetics of Teff Grain

    Hydration kinetics of teff [Eragrostis teff (Zucc.) Trotter] grain was studied during soaking in water at the temperatures of 20℃, 30℃, 40℃ and 50℃ for 10 - 160 min.  The weight gain during soaking of the grains was used to calculate the moisture content (% db) and the data was fit to Peleg’s model.  Peleg’s model adequately predicted the water uptake of the teff grain under the experimental conditions investigated (r2 = 0.97 – 0.99).   The Peleg rate constant, k1, and capacity constant, k2, decreased from 0.714 to 0.272 min %-1 and 0.043 to 0.025%-1, respectively, with the increasing temperature from 20℃ to 50℃.  Arrhenius type equation described the temperature dependence of k1 and k2 with r2 values of 0.91 and 0.98, respectively, and activation energy of 24.59 kJ mol-1.  The strong correlation coefficient value of 0.97 - 0.99 indicated that Peleg’s model could be used to characterize the hydration kinetics of teff grain under the experimental conditions considered.Keywords: teff, Peleg’s model, hydration, Ethiopi

    The magnitude of episiotomy among women who gave birth in Ethiopia: Systematic review and meta-analysis

    Episiotomy is one of the most common obstetric procedures done by health providers putting the client at high risk of developing complications and lacerations. These days, episiotomy has been done at an alarming rate in Ethiopia as compared to the slant set by World Health Organization. Be that as it may, there is a need for nationally representative data. This study aimed to determine the pooled prevalence of episiotomy practice among women who gave birth at public health institutions in Ethiopia. We accessed PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, EMBASE, and manual search was used to retrieve articles. The extractions of the data were done by using Microsoft Excel and analyzed by STATA version 11 statistical software. The publication bias was checked by funnel plot visually and Egger's test and Begg’s test, with P < 0.05 considered indicating potential publication bias. I2 was used to check the presence of heterogeneity of the studies. Overall estimated analysis was done. Subgroup analysis was done by region. We carried out a leave-one-out sensitivity analysis. The Joanna Briggs Institute risk of bias assessment tool was used. Out of 254 articles retrieved, 9 studies met the eligibility criteria and are thus included in this study. The overall episiotomy practice in Ethiopia was 45.01% (95% CI: 36.288, 53.741). Based on the sub-group analysis, prevalence of episiotomy practice was 49.32% (95%CI: 12.67, 85.97), 46.92% (95%CI: 29.47, 64.37), 44.23% (95%CI: 37.77, 50.99) and 38.29 (95%CI: 32.38, 44.20) among South region, Addis Ababa, Amhara region and Tigray region respectively. The findings revealed that the prevalence of episiotomy practice in Ethiopia was high (45.01%). Therefore, it is better to have periodic training for birth attendants on the indication of episiotomy and the appropriate use of guidelines to reduce the rate of episiotomy

    Early Postnatal Home Visit Coverage by Health Extension Workers and Associated Factors Among Postpartum Women in Gidan District, Northeast Ethiopia

    Objectives: To determine the coverage and associated factors of early postnatal home visits (PNHVs) by health extension workers (HEWs) among postpartum women in Gidan district, Northeast Ethiopia.Methods: A community-based, cross-sectional study was conducted between 30 March and 29 April 2021 in the Gidan district, Northeast Ethiopia. A multistage sampling technique was employed to select 767 postpartum women participants. Interviewer-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data. A binary logistic regression model was fitted to identify factors associated with early PNHVs by HEWs.Results: The coverage of early postnatal home visits was 15.13% [95% confidence interval (CI): 12.75, 17.87]. Women’s education, institutional delivery, time to reach health posts, and participation in pregnant women forums were significantly associated with early PNHVs by HEWs.Conclusion: In the current study, the coverage of early postnatal home visits by HEWs remains low in the study area. The concerned bodies should consider interventions that promote women’s education and institutional delivery, and more efforts should be made to improve community-based participation and links with HEWs

    Magnitude of unintended pregnancy and its determinants among childbearing age women in low and middle-income countries: evidence from 61 low and middle income countries

    BackgroundUnintended pregnancy is one of the most serious health issues in low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), posing significant health, economic, and psychosocial costs to individuals and communities. However, there is limited evidence on the prevalence of unintended pregnancies and their determinants in LMICs. Hence, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and its associated factors among childbearing-age women in LMICs.MethodData for the study were drawn from a recent 61 Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) conducted in LMICs. A total sample of 187,347 mothers who gave birth in the five years preceding the survey was included. STATA version 16 was used to clean and analyze the data. Multilevel multivariable logistic regression was employed to identify individual and community-level factors of unintended pregnancy in LMICs. In the multivariable analysis, an adjusted odds ratio with a 95% confidence level was reported to indicate statistical association.ResultsThe pooled magnitude of unintended pregnancy in LMICs was 26.46%% (95% CI: 25.30%, 27.62%), ranging from 19.25%% in Egypt to 61.71% in Bolivia. Working status (AOR =  1.03; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.06), having a husband with no education (AOR = 1.07; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.15), and primary education (AOR =  1.05; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.11), women from male-headed households (AOR = 1.04; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.08), media exposure (AOR = 1.05; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.08), unmet need for contraception (AOR = 1.05; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.08), distance from a health facility (AOR = 1.03; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.06) were significantly associated with unintended pregnancy.ConclusionUnintended pregnancy rates remain high in LMICs. Women whose husband has no education and primary education, women with media exposure, working status, women who live in a household headed by male, women with unmet need for contraception, and women with a big problem of distance to health facilities were variables that were significant predictors of unintended pregnancy. When attempting to minimize unintended pregnancy in LMICs, these factors need to be considered. Furthermore, most of these attempts should be driven by government entities in low and middle-income countries

    Spatial distribution and associated factors of poor tetanus toxoid immunization among pregnant women in Ethiopia: spatial and multilevel analysis

    BackgroundNeonatal mortality from tetanus can be reduced by 94% when pregnant women receive at least two doses of tetanus toxoid. In Ethiopia, immunization programs are suboptimal despite their importance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the geographic distribution and associated factors of poor tetanus toxoid (TT) immunization among pregnant women in Ethiopia.MethodsSecondary data analysis was used using the 2016 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS). ArcGIS version 10.8 statistical software was used to explore the spatial distribution of poor TT immunization and SaTScan version 9.6 software was used to identify significant hotspot areas of poor TT immunization. For associated factors, a multilevel binary logistic regression model was fitted using STATA version 14 software. In the multivariable multilevel analysis, adjusted OR (AOR) with 95% CI was reported to reveal significantly associated factors of poor TT immunization.ResultIn Ethiopia, the spatial distribution of poor tetanus toxoid immunization was clustered with Global Moran's I = 0.59 at p-value of <0.0001. The highest poor TT immunization clusters were observed in the East and South Tigray, the central part of Amhara, West Afar, East Somali, and West Gambella. Pregnant women with no Antenatal care (ANC) visits [Adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR) = 10.46, 95% CI: (8.82, 12.41))], pregnant women with 1–3 ANC visits [aOR = 1.51, 95% CI: (1.31, 1.73)], media exposure [aOR = 1.45, 95% CI: (1.26, 1.67)], poor wealth index [aOR = 1.22; 95% CI: (1.03, 1.45)], middle wealth index [aOR = 1.23; 95% CI: (1.03, 1.47)], family planning use [aOR = 1.28; 95% CI: (1.11, 1.57)] and community level education [aOR = 1.43, 95% CI: (1.14, 1.80)] were significantly associated with poor tetanus toxoid immunization.ConclusionPoor tetanus toxoid immunization among pregnant women varies in Ethiopia. It was highest in East and South Tigray, the central part of Amhara, West Afar, East Somali, and West Gambella. Therefore, public health programs should design targeted interventions in identified hot spots to improve tetanus toxoid immunization. Health programmers should be promoting optimal ANC visits, women's education, and family planning use
