    Heavy Quark Expansion and Preasymptotic Corrections to Decay Widths in the 't Hooft Model

    Get PDF
    We address nonperturbative power corrections to inclusive decay widths of heavy flavor hadrons in the context of the 't Hooft model (two-dimensional QCD at N_c->oo), with the emphasis on the spectator-dependent effects sensitive to the flavor of the spectator. The summation of exclusive widths is performed analytically using the `t Hooft equation. We show that the 1/m_Q expansion of both the Weak Annihilation and Pauli Interference widths coincides with the OPE predictions, to the computed orders. Violation of local duality in the inclusive widths is quantified, and the new example is identified where the OPE prediction and the actual effect are completely saturated by a single final state. The qualitative aspects of quark hadronization emerging from the analysis in the 't Hooft model are discussed. Certain aspects of summation of spectator-independent hadronic weak decay widths are given in more detail, which were not spelled out previously. We also give some useful details of the 1/m_Q expansion in the 't~Hooft model.Comment: 54 pages, 8 figures in the text. Version to be published in Phys. Rev. D. Measurables of CPCP Violation in BdDCP0KSB_d\to D^0_{CP}K_S at a BB-meson Factory

    Full text link
    In the context of the standard electroweak model, we emphasize that BdDCP0KSB_d\rightarrow D^0_{CP}K_S (DCP0D^0_{CP} denotes a CPCP eigenstate of D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}^0) can compete with Bdπ+πB_d\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^- in studying CPCP violation and probing the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle. We discuss the measurables of direct and indirect CPCP asymmetries in Bd0B^0_d vs Bˉd0DCP0KS\bar{B}^0_d\rightarrow D^0_{CP}K_S under the circumstance of an asymmetric BB-meson factory running on the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance, and show that both the weak and strong phases are experimentally determinable even in the presence of unknown final-state interactions.Comment: 6 Postscript pages, accepted for publication in IL Nuovo Cimento A as a "Note Brevi

    Four-quark Operators Relevant to B Meson Lifetimes from QCD Sum Rules

    Get PDF
    At the order of 1/m_b^3, the B meson lifetimes are controlled by the hadronic matrix elements of some four-quark operators. The nonfactorizable magnitudes of these four-quark operator matrix elements are analyzed by QCD sum rules in the framework of heavy quark effective theory. The vacuum saturation for color-singlet four-quark operators is justified at hadronic scale, and the nonfactorizable effect is at a few percent level. However for color-octet four-quark operators, the vacuum saturation is violated sizably that the nonfactorizable effect cannot be neglected for the B meson lifetimes. The implication to the extraction of some of the parameters from B decays is discussed. The B meson lifetime ratio is predicted as \tau(B^-)/\tau(B^0)=1.09\pm 0.02. However, the experimental result of the lifetime ratio \tau(\Lambda_b)/\tau(B^0) still cannot be explained.Comment: 20 pages, latex, 6 figures, discussion on non-factorizable effect of the four-quark condensate added, to appear in Phys.     Tau Polarization in ΛbXcτνˉ \Lambda_b \to X_c \tau \bar{\nu} and BXcτνˉB \to X_c \tau \bar{\nu}

    We discuss the longitudinal and transverse τ\tau-polarization in inclusive decays of hadrons containing bb-quarks. The calculation is performed by means of an OPE in HQET. Some mathematical difficulties in calculating transverse polarizations are explained. Numerical results are presented for longitudinal and for transverse polarizations, both in and perpendicular to the decay plane.Comment: LATEX, 20 pages, 5 Postscript figure

    Four-Quark Mesons in Non-leptonic B Decays--Could They Resolve Some Old Puzzles?

    Full text link
    We point out that non-leptonic B decays driven by b-->ccbar s should provide a favourable environment for the production of hidden charm diquark-antidiquark bound states that have been suggested to explain the resonances with masses around 4 GeV recently observed by BaBar and BELLE. Studying their relative abundances in non-leptonic B decays can teach us novel lessons about their structure and the strong interactions. Through their decay into psi they can provide a natural explanation of the excess of B-->psi X observed for p_psi < 1 GeV. Other phenomenological consequences are mentioned as well.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, revte

    CP Violation in D0D0D^0-\overline{D^0}Mixing

    Full text link
    The existence of D0D0D^0-\overline{D^0} mixing at a detectable level requires new physics, which effectively yields a Δc=2\Delta c = 2 superweak interaction. In general this interaction may involve significant CP violation. For small values of the mixing it may be much easier to detect the CP-violating part of the mixing than the CP-conserving part.Comment: 3 pages, latex, no figure

    Cap rock efficiency of geothermal systems in fold-and-thrust belts: Evidence from paleo-thermal and structural analyses in Rosario de La Frontera geothermal area (NW Argentina)

    Cap rock characterization of geothermal systems is often neglected despite fracturing may reduce its efficiency and favours fluid migration. We investigated the siliciclastic cap rock of Rosario de La Frontera geothermal system (NW Argentina) in order to assess its quality as a function of fracture patterns and related thermal alteration. Paleothermal investigations (XRD on fine-grained fraction of sediments, organic matter optical analysis and fluid inclusions on veins) and 1D thermal modelling allowed us to distinguish the thermal fingerprint associated to sedimentary burial from that related to fluid migration. The geothermal system is hosted in a Neogene N-S anticline dissected by high angle NNW- and ENE-striking faults. Its cap rock can be grouped into two quality categories: • rocks acting as good insulators, deformed by NNW–SSE and E–W shear fractures, NNE-SSW gypsum- and N-S-striking calcite-filled veins that developed during the initial stage of anticline growth. Maximum paleo-temperatures (< 60 °C) were experienced during deposition to folding phases.• rocks acting as bad insulators, deformed by NNW-SSE fault planes and NNW- and WNW-striking sets of fractures associated to late transpressive kinematics. Maximum paleo-temperatures higher than about 115 °C are linked to fluid migration from the reservoir to surface (with a reservoir top at maximum depths of 2.5 km) along fault damage zones.This multi-method approach turned out to be particularly useful to trace the main pathways of hot fluids and can be applied in blind geothermal systems where either subsurface data are scarce or surface thermal anomalies are lacking.Fil: Maffucci, R.. Duality in the non-relativistic harmonic oscillator quark model in the Shifman-Voloshin limit : a pedagogical example

    Get PDF
    The detailed way in which duality between sum of exclusive states and the free quark model description operates in semileptonic total decay widths, is analysed. It is made very explicit by the use of the non relativistic harmonic oscillator quark model in the SV limit, and a simple interaction current with the lepton pair. In particular, the Voloshin sum rule is found to eliminate the mismatches of order δm/mb2\delta m/m_b^2.Comment: 11 pages, Latex2e, AMS-LaTe
