Genome is a complex barcode that is interpreted at molecular level. There are various proteins which are modulating the expression or repression of the genes. Miscellaneous proteins work in collaboration to stimulate or repress the gene expression. Chromatin remodeling factors are the artists which chisel, carve and mould the sculpture of genome. In this review we will emphasize on exemptions and extensions which trigger genomic instability in broad range of molecular anomalies. Doubtlessly therapeutic interventions have shown tremendous promise in cancer therapy, but the selectivity profiles of these compounds have largely relied on serendipity or 'off-target' activities rather than rational drug design. Purposefully designed compounds with activity against methyltransferase, demethylase and HDAC will bring us a step closer to personalized medicine

    Get PDF
The outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, which instigated governments to impose lockdowns across their countries. Amidst the lockdown in Pakistan, this study comprised measures of the COVID-19 risk perception, coping mechanism, and spatial variations. The data from 40 selected indicators was collected using an online questionnaire and grouped into domains (4 risk perception and 3 coping mechanisms domains). The results revealed the spatial variations and the levels of risk perception and coping mechanisms within the study area. Relative to each other, overall risk perception was highest in Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir) and Islamabad, and lowest in Balochistan province. Very little spatial variation was observed in terms of coping mechanisms. Age, gender, and marital status influenced the risk perception associated with COVID-19. The findings suggest spatial variation in risk perception, implying the need for localized and modified COVID-19 risk communication and risk reduction strategies. Background: Gallstone diseases are one of the most common public health problems. Approximately 10%-20% of the national adult populations currently carry gallstones, and gallstone prevalence is rising. The purpose of the study was to find out association of gallstone with fatty liver, gender and age in Lahore, Pakistan. Methods: Ultrasonographically Hundred patients were scanned for liver type and gall stone. The data was analyzed by using SPSS version 17.0. Chi-Square statistics was used to check the association between the variables. The effect of age and gender was also statistically analysed. Results: One hundred patients were scanned between ages 21-60 years. Out of hundred 76% patients were female and 24% were male. In this study there were no stones in 37% cases and there were stones in 63% cases. Gallbladder stone found associated with age as p-value is found less than 5% level of significance, maximum patients were found in age ranges between 31-35 years, showing that risk of developing gallstone increases by age. Gallstone is gender specific, females are more victims of developing the stone than among males, and those who have fatty liver are more at risk of developing gallstone than those having normal liver. Conclusions: The study showed that ultrasound (US) is the most sensitive, specific, yet very practical and useful imaging test for the detection of gallstones with a high degree of confidence. Gallstones represent high prevalence disease in adult females more than males and it increases by age where as those who have fatty liver, they are more likely to develop gallstone

Background: Diagnosis of acute pancreatitis is based on raised serum lipase and serum amylase in the blood. However, the levels of urinary amylase can be sought for being less invasive. The study aimed to find out the diagnostic accuracy of urinary amylase compared to serum amylase and serum lipase and their association with the degree of severity of acute pancreatitis. Methods: A randomized clinical control study was conducted on n=180 acute pancreatitis patients (18-50 year) in the Ziauddin and PNS Shifa Hospital, Karachi from September 2019- August 2020. Serum amylase, serum lipase and urinary amylase levels were checked at the time of admission followed by 24 hours and at discharge. ANOVA with post-hoc Tuckey’s test was used to determine the association of amylases with the severity of acute pancreatitis and p˂0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: The patients with acute pancreatitis had a mean age of 51.76 ±10.8. Urinary amylase had a strong significant association (p˂0.05) with acute pancreatitis compared to serum amylase and lipase (p=0.024). There was an insignificant association of urinary amylase with acute pancreatitis after 24 hours. Similarly, urinary amylase reported good diagnostic discrimination of acute pancreatitis as the accuracy index, the area under the ROC curve was one, showing higher sensitivity and specificity by covering the maximum population under the ROC curve. Conclusion: The significance of Urinary amylase (p˂0.05) was higher than serum amylase, serum lipase because of sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing acute pancreatitis representing a positive association with the degree of severity of the disease. Get PDF
Since the release of Kinect by Microsoft, the, accuracy and stability of Kinect data-such as depth map, has been essential and important element of research and data analysis. In order to develop efficient means of analyzing and using the kinnect data, researchers require high quality of depth data during the preprocessing step, which is very crucial for accurate results. One of the most important concerns of researchers is to eliminate image noise and convert image and video to the best quality. In this paper, different types of the noise for Kinect are analyzed and a unique technique is used, to reduce the background noise based on distance between Kinect devise and the user. Whereas, for shadow removal, the iterative method is used to eliminate the shadow casted by the Kinect. A 3D depth image is obtained as a result with good quality and accuracy. Further, the results of this present study reveal that the image background is eliminated completely and the 3D image quality in depth map has been enhanced

On Distribution Grid Optimal Power Flow Development and Integration

Due to changes in electric distribution grid operation, new operation regimes have been recommended. Distribution grid optimal power flow (DOPF) has received tremendous attention in the research community, yet it has not been fully adopted across the utility industry. Our paper recognizes this problem and suggests a development and integration procedure for DOPF. We propose development of DOPF as a three step procedure of 1) processing the grid, 2) obtaining a tractable solution, and 3) implementing multiple solution algorithms and benchmarking them to improve application reliability. For the integration of DOPF, we demonstrate how a DOPF federate may be developed that can be integrated in a co-simulation environment to mimic the real-world conditions and hence improve its practicality to be deployed in the field. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed methods, tests on IEEE 123-bus system are performed where the usage of tractable formulation in DOPF algorithm development and its comparison to the benchmark solution are demonstrated
