Orbital decay of protostellar binaries in molecular clouds

    Get PDF
The evolution of a protostellar binary system is investigated while it is embedded in its parent molecular cloud core and acted upon by gas drag due to dynamical friction. Approximate analytical results are obtained for the energy and angular momentum evolution of the orbit in the limiting cases, where the velocity is much smaller than, and much larger than the velocity dispersion of the gas. The general case is solved numerically. Dissipation causes a decay of the orbit to smaller separations and orbital eccentricity increases with time. As a binary probably spends about a few 10610^6 years embedded in the cloud, significant evolution of the orbit is expected before the dispersal of the cloud. Binary populations have been statistically generated and evolved for comparison with observations of MS and PMS binaries. Dynamical friction changes the initial frequency distribution with period of the binaries, and a maximum is obtained in the distribution as seen observationally. Decay of the orbit due to gas drag causes an evolution of long-period orbits to shorter periods and thus enables the formation of close binaries.Comment: 11 pages, figures available on request, e-mail: [email protected], [email protected]

Importance of Poorvakarmas in Shodhana therapy - A Revi

    Get PDF
In recent era Panchakarma has got prominent place in the management of the diseases through Ayurveda, because Panchakarma is only hope in patients who are bushed after all the Shamana treatments. Panchakarma expels the Doshas from their causative roots so diseases cannot revert after; like tree cannot grow without its root. Without proper Poorvakarma physician cannot get truly result though Shodhana procedure (like Vamana/Virechana) performed well, because without Poorvakarmas Doshas cannot be changed in particular forms through which they can be expelled out from the body. The present paper is focused on explanation of the principle that how Poorvakarma is essential for Shodhana therapy, how they change Dosha’s form and elucidate the Kala and Matra of Poorvakarma particular in Snehapana

A Study on Principal Component Analysis over Wireless Channel

    Get PDF
Applications in many fields such as the internet of things (IoT), stock market, image compression, food adulteration, wireless physical layer key generation, etc. are becoming progressively complex due to a large number of users and increment in their usage. Data obtained by these applications are in huge amount creating a high computational cost. Further, it is difficult to handle and analyze it. To deal with such problems, dimensionality reduction techniques are used and one of the dimensionality reduction techniques is the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). In this paper, PCA is applied over a wireless Rician channel with AWGN at different SNR. It is concluded that the information content is more in less number of principal components with samples at higher SNR. It is also observed that the different combinations of several groups and elements in the sample space provide a different cumulative percentage of information

Treatment-seeking rates in malaria endemic countries

BACKGROUND: The proportion of individuals who seek treatment for fever is an important quantity in understanding access to and use of health systems, as well as for interpreting data on disease incidence from routine surveillance systems. For many malaria endemic countries (MECs), treatment-seeking information is available from national household surveys. The aim of this paper was to assemble sub-national estimates of treatment-seeking behaviours and to predict national treatment-seeking measures for all MECs lacking household survey data. METHODS: Data on treatment seeking for fever were obtained from Demographic and Health Surveys, Malaria Indicator Surveys and Multiple Cluster Indicator Surveys for every MEC and year that data were available. National-level social, economic and health-related variables were gathered from the World Bank as putative covariates of treatment-seeking rates. A generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) was used to estimate treatment-seeking behaviours for countries where survey data were unavailable. Two separate models were developed to predict the proportion of fever cases that would seek treatment at (1) a public health facility or (2) from any kind of treatment provider. RESULTS: Treatment-seeking data were available for 74 MECs and modelled for the remaining 24. GAMMs found that the percentage of pregnant women receiving prenatal care, vaccination rates, education level, government health expenditure, and GDP growth were important predictors for both categories of treatment-seeking outcomes. Treatment-seeking rates, which varied both within and among regions, revealed that public facilities were not always the primary facility type used. CONCLUSIONS: Estimates of treatment-seeking rates show how health services are utilized and help correct reported malaria case numbers to obtain more accurate measures of disease burden. The assembled and modelled data demonstrated that while treatment-seeking rates have overall increased over time, access remains low in some malaria endemic regions and utilization of government services is in some areas limited

Concept of Nabhi – A Review Study

    Get PDF
The central point of body in between Amashaya (location of undigested food) and Pakvashaya (location of digested food) is termed as Nabhi. In classical texts of Ayurveda; scattered references regarding Nabhi are available like Nabhi is mentioned as a vital spot (Marma) of body. Nabhi is also included among the fifteen Koshthangas of body. In Sharirasthana of Sushruta Samhita; Acharya Sushruta mentioned that Sira and Dhamani are originated from Nabhi. Acharya Vagbhatta has quoted Nabhi as a dominant place of Pitta Dosha. Nabhi is an abode of Pranas (vital energy). Available literature and commentary on Nabhi interprets it as a Navel but practically it doesn’t make a sense to stick with this interpretation. Therefore; it is need to review classical texts of Ayurveda and contemporary literature to get clear and unambiguous meaning of the word “Nabhi” now a day. After thoroughly reading and interpreting the literature available regarding Nabhi; core of physiological process would be considered by the term Nabh

Preventive, promotive and curative aspect of Dhumapana in Urdhvajatrugata Roga

    Get PDF
Dhumapana is very effective treatment for upper clavicular diseases (Urdhvajatrugata Roga). It is also effective in coughing (Kasa Roga) and in induction of emesis. However it is not widely practiced. The curative aspect of Dhumapana is somewhat known in clinicians but its preventive and promotive aspect is neither much known nor practiced. Different types of Dhumapana are mentioned in Ayurvedic classics, made from different Dhumavarti, using different drugs; according to the need of action. It works on Vata and Kapha Dosha. It can be used for Shamana and Shodhana Karma. It can be advised at different stages of treatment to achieve these Karma. In this article an effort has been made to elaborate the preventive, promotive and curative aspect of Dhumapana

Neural, renal and retinal hamartomas with cutis vertis gyrata a rare presentation in tuberous sclerosis complex

    Get PDF
Tuberous sclerosis complex characterised by multiple benign tumours, is caused by mutation in the genes TSC1 and TSC2 coding for Hamartin and Tuberin respectively. We report a case of a 17 year old female patient who presented with classical Vogt’s triad characterized by seizures, mental retardation and adenoma sebaceous. She presented with Cutis Vertis Gyrata in addition to multiple retinal astrocytic hamartomas in her right eye with retinal pigment epithelium changes in both eyes and a normal anterior segment examination.  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain showed subependymal giant cell astrocytomas and cortical tubers. Ultrasound of the abdomen showed bilateral renal angiomyoliposis. We are presenting this case as retinal hamartomas with five Major criteria are seen along with secondary Cutis Vertis Gyrata which is an extremely rare presentation of Tuberous sclerosis. Absence of most of the Minor criteria is not to be excluded

Panchakarma are unique procedures, with help of these procedures one can cure patient as well as help individual to maintain his health. So for proper manifestation of these Karma one should follow all the instruction mention by Acharya. Paschata Karma of Panchakarma is as important as Pradhana Karma because if Paschata Karma, particular Samsarjana Krama, is not done properly patient cannot recover his health properly and his Agni gets disturbed. Here Krutanna Kalpna like Peya, Vilepi, Yusha, Mamsa Rasa etc. play important role to restore patient health and increase the Agni. Here an attempt has been made to explain the importance of Samsarjana Krama

The ethical dilemma of ventilator sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Get PDF
Ventilator sharing, an ethically challenging and difficult decision for the healthcare providers to make, has emerged due to scarce medical supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare professionals find themselves tangled in the ethical complexity of ventilator sharing at every step – selecting patients, maintaining patient privacy, using appropriate ventilator settings, and avoiding complications. It becomes hard to morally answer questions related to ventilator sharing due to a lack of scientific research in this regard
