Application aux minéraux opaques et anisotropes de l'ellipsométrie par réflexion oblique

An anisotropic polished section illuminated by an inclined (i = 45°) beam of monochromatic light linearly polarized along a direction at 45° from the incident plane reflects an elliptical wave whose ellipticity is different when Rg or Rp axe lies in the incident plane. The polished section is mounted on a theodolite stage and observed with a polarizing microscope. The polarization angles Ψ'g, Ψ'p are measured by means of a rotating analyser and a Nakamura plate. Ellipticity angles 2 δ'g, 2 δ'p are measured in convergent light by means of an elliptical mica-plate. It is then possible to calculate the refractive indices ng, np and the absorption indices kg, kp. The method is tested on several anisotropic opaque minerals such as wolframites, columbo-tantalites, arseno-pyrites, lôllingite, hausmannite, hematite, ilmenites and so on...Éclairée obliquement (i = 45°) par un rayon de lumière monochromatique polarisée dans une direction à 45° du plan d'incidence, une surface polie d'un milieu réflecteur anisotrope donne lieu à une onde réfléchie elliptique différente selon que la ligne neutre portant Rg ou Rp se trouve dans le plan d'incidence. La section polie est montée sur une platine théodolite et observée au microscope polarisant à réflexion. Les angles de polarisation rétablie Ψ'g et Ψ'p sont mesurés à l'aide d'un analyseur tournant et d'une lame de Nakamura. Les angles d'ellipticité 2δ'g et 2δ'p sont mesurés en lumière convergente à l'aide d'un mica elliptique. On en déduit les valeurs des indices de réfraction ng et np et des indices d'extinction kg et kp. Application de la méthode à plusieurs minéraux : wolframites, columbo-tantalites, arsénopyrites, löllingite, hausmannite, hématite, ilménites, etc...Beugnies Alphonse. Angiosarcoma around a knee arthroplasty Report of a case and literature review

The development of periprosthetic malignancy in proximity to an arthroplasty has been a matter of debate since it was first reported in 1978. We report a case of tibial angiosarcoma, an extremely rare malignancy, which developed in proximity to a primary knee arthroplasty performed ten years before. To our knowledge this is the second case ever described around a knee arthroplasty. While implantation of orthopaedic material can induce the development of malignant tumours in experimental animals, the overall incidence of malignancy recorded following arthroplasty in clinical studies does not appear to be increased compared to the control population. Each case of periprosthetic malignancy following arthroplasty must receive attention in order to better understand the underlying pathology and to measure the possibility for an increased risk of development of specific cancer types
