Sneutrino as Lightest Supersymmetric Particle in B3 mSUGRA Models and Signals at the LHC
We consider B3 mSUGRA models where we have one lepton number violating LQD
operator at the GUT scale. This can alter the supersymmetric mass spectrum
leading to a sneutrino as the lightest supersymmetric particle in a large
region of parameter space. We take into account the restrictions from neutrino
masses, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, b -> s gamma and other precision
measurements. We furthermore investigate existing restrictions from direct
searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the CERN p\bar p collider. We then give
examples for characteristic signatures at the LHC.Comment: 22 pages, 11 figure
Role of oxygen vacancy defect states in the n-type conduction of β-Ga[sub 2]O[sub 3]
Based on semiempirical quantum-chemical calculations, the electronic band structure of β-Ga2O3 is presented and the formation and properties of oxygen vacancies are analyzed. The equilibrium geometries and formation energies of neutral and doubly ionized vacancies were calculated. Using the calculated donor level positions of the vacancies, the high temperature n-type conduction is explained. The vacancy concentration is obtained by fitting to the experimental resistivity and electron mobility

Laser Tabbed Die: A Repairable, High-Speed Die-Interconnection Technology. 1994 Ldrd Final Report 93-Sr-089
A unique technology for multichip module production is presented. The technology, called Laser Tabbed Die (L-TAB), consists of a method for forming surface-mount-type {open_quotes}gull wing{close_quotes} interconnects on bare dice. The dice are temporarily bonded to a sacrificial substrate which has a polymer thin film coated onto it. The gull wings are formed on the side of the die with a direct-write laser patterning process which allows vertical as well as horizontal image formation. Using the laser patterning system, trenches are formed in a positive electrodeposited photoresist (EDPR) which is plated onto a metal seed layer, allowing copper to be electroplated through the resultant mask. After stripping the resist and the metal seed layer, the polymer film on the substrate is dissolved, releasing the chip with the {open_quotes}gull wings{close_quotes} intact. The chips are then bonded onto a circuit board or permanent substrate with solder or conductive adhesive

Three Dimensional, Multi-Chip Module
The present invention relates to integrated circuit packaging technology, and particularly to three dimensional packages involving high density stacks of integrated circuits. A plurality of multi-chip modules are stacked and bonded around the perimeter by sold-bump bonds to adjacent modules on, for instance, three sides of the perimeter. The fourth side can be used for coolant distribution, for more interconnect structures, or other features, depending on particular design considerations of the chip set. The multi-chip modules comprise a circuit board, having a planarized interconnect structure formed on a first major surface, and integrated circuit chips bonded to the planarized interconnect surface. Around the periphery of each circuit board, long, narrow ``dummy chips`` are bonded to the finished circuit board to form a perimeter wall. The wall is higher than any of the chips on the circuit board, so that the flat back surface of the board above will only touch the perimeter wall. Module-to-module interconnect is laser-patterned on the sides of the boards and over the perimeter wall in the same way and at the same time that chip to board interconnect may be laser-patterned
Effects of atomic diffraction on the Collective Atomic Recoil Laser
We formulate a wave atom optics theory of the Collective Atomic Recoil Laser,
where the atomic center-of-mass motion is treated quantum mechanically. By
comparing the predictions of this theory with those of the ray atom optics
theory, which treats the center-of-mass motion classically, we show that for
the case of a far off-resonant pump laser the ray optics model fails to predict
the linear response of the CARL when the temperature is of the order of the
recoil temperature or less. This is due to the fact that in theis temperature
regime one can no longer ignore the effects of matter-wave diffraction on the
atomic center-of-mass motion.Comment: plain tex, 10 pages, 10 figure
Angular Forces Around Transition Metals in Biomolecules
Quantum-mechanical analysis based on an exact sum rule is used to extract an
semiclassical angle-dependent energy function for transition metal ions in
biomolecules. The angular dependence is simple but different from existing
classical potentials. Comparison of predicted energies with a
computer-generated database shows that the semiclassical energy function is
remarkably accurate, and that its angular dependence is optimal.Comment: Tex file plus 4 postscript figure
Developmental MRI markers cosegregate juvenile patients with myoclonic epilepsy and their healthy siblings
OBJECTIVE: MRI studies of genetic generalized epilepsies have mainly described group-level changes between patients and healthy controls. To determine the endophenotypic potential of structural MRI in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME), we examined MRI-based cortical morphologic markers in patients and their healthy siblings. METHODS: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, we obtained 3T MRI in patients with JME, siblings, and controls. We mapped sulco-gyral complexity and surface area, morphologic markers of brain development, and cortical thickness. Furthermore, we calculated mean geodesic distance, a surrogate marker of cortico-cortical connectivity. RESULTS: Compared to controls, patients and siblings showed increased folding complexity and surface area in prefrontal and cingulate cortices. In these regions, they also displayed abnormally increased geodesic distance, suggesting network isolation and decreased efficiency, with strongest effects for limbic, fronto-parietal, and dorsal-attention networks. In areas of findings overlap, we observed strong patient-sibling correlations. Conversely, neocortical thinning was present in patients only and related to disease duration. Patients showed subtle impairment in mental flexibility, a frontal lobe function test, as well as deficits in naming and design learning. Siblings' performance fell between patients and controls. CONCLUSION: MRI markers of brain development and connectivity are likely heritable and may thus serve as endophenotypes. The topography of morphologic anomalies and their abnormal structural network integration likely explains cognitive impairments in patients with JME and their siblings. By contrast, cortical atrophy likely represents a marker of disease
Isotope shift in the dielectronic recombination of three-electron ^{A}Nd^{57+}
Isotope shifts in dielectronic recombination spectra were studied for Li-like
^{A}Nd^{57+} ions with A=142 and A=150. From the displacement of resonance
positions energy shifts \delta E^{142,150}(2s-2p_1/2)= 40.2(3)(6) meV
(stat)(sys)) and \delta E^{142,150}(2s-2p_3/2) = 42.3(12)(20) meV of 2s-2p_j
transitions were deduced. An evaluation of these values within a full QED
treatment yields a change in the mean-square charge radius of ^{142,150}\delta
= -1.36(1)(3) fm^2. The approach is conceptually new and combines the
advantage of a simple atomic structure with high sensitivity to nuclear size.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

Quantum Nondemolition State Measurement via Atomic Scattering in Bragg Regime
We suggest a quantum nondemolition scheme to measure a quantized cavity field
state using scattering of atoms in general Bragg regime. Our work extends the
QND measurement of a cavity field from Fock state, based on first order Bragg
deflection [9], to any quantum state based on Bragg deflection of arbitrary
order. In addition a set of experimental parameters is provided to perform the
experiment within the frame work of the presently available technology.Comment: 11 pages text, 4 eps figures, to appear in letter section of journal
