Interprofessional Simulation in Accredited Paramedic Programs

    Get PDF
Introduction: Healthcare leaders advocate for interprofessional education as a means to promote collaborative practice, enhance interdisciplinary communication, and improve patient safety in the health professions. There is little evidence specific to interprofessional simulation in paramedic education. Methods: The National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) surveyed paramedic programs that were accredited or in the process of becoming accredited. Program respondents were asked to characterize their resources and their use of those resources, and then were asked about their perceptions pertaining to simulation in their program. Chi-square analysis was used to compare characteristics of programs that participated in interdisciplinary simulation with those that did not. Results: Of the 389 of 638 (61%) paramedic program survey respondents, 44% (159 of 362) report interprofessional simulation. They perceived they used the right amount of simulation more frequently than other paramedic programs X2 (1, N=362) = 8.425, p X2 (1, N=362) = 11.751, pX2 (1, N=356) = 8.838, pX2 (1, N=362) = 4.704, pX2 (1, N=362) = 11.508 pX2 (1, N=362) = 5.495, pX2 (1, N=359) = 12.595, p\u3c0.01.Conclusion: This research suggests that paramedic programs conducting interdisciplinary simulation indicated they have greater access to resources and faculty training to support simulation

Domain-Aware Augmentations for Unsupervised Online General Continual Learning

Continual Learning has been challenging, especially when dealing with unsupervised scenarios such as Unsupervised Online General Continual Learning (UOGCL), where the learning agent has no prior knowledge of class boundaries or task change information. While previous research has focused on reducing forgetting in supervised setups, recent studies have shown that self-supervised learners are more resilient to forgetting. This paper proposes a novel approach that enhances memory usage for contrastive learning in UOGCL by defining and using stream-dependent data augmentations together with some implementation tricks. Our proposed method is simple yet effective, achieves state-of-the-art results compared to other unsupervised approaches in all considered setups, and reduces the gap between supervised and unsupervised continual learning. Our domain-aware augmentation procedure can be adapted to other replay-based methods, making it a promising strategy for continual learning.Comment: Accepted to BMVC'2

Tlle aim of this study zuas to determine antitumor effectiveness of cryosurgery alone and in comhination with radiotherapy. Cryosurgery of subcutaneous fibrosarcoma SA-1 tumors in A/J mice was moderately effective trcatmcnt. Tumor growth delay was 10.3 * 3.8 days after 5 minute treatment with nitrogen filled cryo-prohe. Shorter treatment times induced less, but dose dependent antitumor effect. In combined treat- ment, tumors were either first treated by cryosurgery for 3 minutes and then locally irradiated with 10Gy for 5 minutes, or irradiated first and thereafter treated by cryosurgery. The antitumor effectiveness of com- bined treatrnent was sequence dependentthe irradiation of tumors before cryosurgery resulted in better antitumor effect than the irradiation after cryosurgery. These results indicate that radiosensitization may not be always expected, in spite of some reports demonstrating that cryosurgery may have radiosensitizing effect in vivo, and that some other mechanisms may be involved contributing to radiationdamage when cryosurgery follows irradiation.

Introduction: There is a paradigm shift in thinking which requires authentic learning which led to focus on formative assessment. This concern has caused a challenge to educators. Educational experts have recommended the integration of student self-assessment strategy in learning process to address this challenge. Self-assessment is a process where learners reflect on the worth of their work, compare their work to the standards, identify gaps and revise appropriately. Purpose: This study was to determine the effect of self-assessment strategy on mathematics performance of public secondary school students with learning difficulties in Homa-Bay County, Kenya. Methodology: The study adopted a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest, nonequivalent control group design. The study was carried out in secondary schools in Homa-Bay County. The population of the study consisted secondary school learners’ context, while the sample consisted of 60 form three learners. The instruments were determined as validated and reliable having been used in previous thesis studies after getting permission to use. Results: This study found out that the experimental group mean improvement index and standard deviation were higher than those of the control group. Even though the experimental group had a greater mean improvement index as well as the standard deviation, this was statistically insignificant from the t-test. The study concluded that student’ self-assessment strategy was effective in mathematics among secondary school students with learning difficulties. Recommendations: The study recommended that there was need for a step-up in the integration of the alternative assessment strategies in the classrooms as formative assessment methods to enhance more meaningful learning especially student self-assessment. Further, efforts should be made to ensure both teachers and students embrace the alternative forms of assessments especially self-assessments more so in this era of authenticity

Rediscovered on the occasion of a retrospective on Molière in films at the Cinémathèque suisse (Lausanne) in 2022, the movie Monsieur Molière aux champs looks at the theatrical practices of a farming community in the canton of Vaud countryside. Directed by Swiss photographer and journalist Yvan Dalain in 1988-1989, the movie depicts the real lives of the inhabitants of Orzens, Gossens and Opens, drawing links with Le Bourgeois gentilhomme, a comedy-ballet by Molière and Lully, almost 320 years after its creation. This paper looks back at the origins of this ambitious project, analyzing the format and adaptation processes used on stage and screen.Rediscovered on the occasion of a retrospective on Molière in films at the Cinémathèque suisse (Lausanne) in 2022, the movie Monsieur Molière aux champs looks at the theatrical practices of a farming community in the canton of Vaud countryside. From natural hazards to outer space and to Plan9

International audienceAn information system for scholarly work on natural hazards calls for the design of a computer system for transmission of information over very long periods, and for traceability. An abstract analysis shows that these requirements are dual to the fundamental question of assisting the cognitive activity of a user using external memories, which reaches a very general scope. The solutions should be implemented at the operating system level, mainly the file system, and Plan9's file systems and other properties make it the soundest base for our work. We present our road-map for development

Signaling Stigma: How Support Technology Induces Bodily Inequalities in Interaction

    Get PDF
This paper contends that support technologies and their relevant artifacts recast bodily relations and thereby produce differing bodies in situations. In this vein, it sketches three main forms of physical human-machine relations (substitution, augmentation, support) and then introduces the concept of signaling stigma that allows to observe the situated management of new technological markers of difference. It concludes with suggestions for further research building on this approach to uncover the interactional foundations for what might grow into manifest inequalities - beyond the still important issues of personal data rights and access to technology
