Entropic sampling dynamics of the globally-coupled kinetic Ising model
The entropic sampling dynamics based on the reversible information transfer
to and from the environment is applied to the globally coupled Ising model in
the presence of an oscillating magnetic field. When the driving frequency is
low enough, coherence between the magnetization and the external magnetic field
is observed; such behavior tends to weaken with the system size. The time-scale
matching between the intrinsic time scale, defined in the absence of the
external magnetic field, and the extrinsic time scale, given by the inverse of
the driving frequency, is used to explain the observed coherence behavior.Comment: 8 page
LHC Signature of Mirage Mediation
We study LHC phenomenology of mirage mediation scenario in which anomaly and
modulus contributions to soft SUSY breaking terms are comparable to each other.
A Monte Carlo study of mirage mediation, with model parameters , GeV, , and , is presented. It is
shown that masses of supersymmetric particles can be measured in a model
independent way, providing information on SUSY breaking sector. In particular,
the mass ratio of gluino to the lightest neutralino for the benchmark scenario
is determined to be 1.9 \lesssim m_{\tildeg}/m_{\tilde\chi_1^0} \lesssim 3.1,
well reproducing theoretical input value of which is quite distinctive from the predictions of other SUSY scenarios in which gaugino
masses are unified at the GUT scale. The model parameters of mirage mediation
can be also determined from various kinematic distributions
Spatiotemporal Stochastic Resonance in Fully Frustrated Josephson Ladders
We consider a Josephson-junction ladder in an external magnetic field with
half flux quantum per plaquette. When driven by external currents, periodic in
time and staggered in space, such a fully frustrated system is found to display
spatiotemporal stochastic resonance under the influence of thermal noise. Such
resonance behavior is investigated both numerically and analytically, which

Vortex Fluctuations in High-Tc Films: Flux Noise Spectrum and Complex Impedance
The flux noise spectrum and complex impedance for a 500 {\AA} thick YBCO film
are measured and compared with predictions for two dimensional vortex
fluctuations. It is verified that the complex impedance and the flux noise
spectra are proportional to each other, that the logarithm of the flux noise
spectra for different temperatures has a common tangent with slope , and that the amplitude of the noise decreases as , where is
the height above the film at which the magnetic flux is measured. A crossover
from normal to anomalous vortex diffusion is indicated by the measurements and

Exciton-driven antiferromagnetic metal in a correlated van der Waals insulator
Collective excitations of bound electron-hole pairs -- known as excitons --
are ubiquitous in condensed matter, emerging in systems as diverse as band
semiconductors, molecular crystals, and proteins. Recently, their existence in
strongly correlated electron materials has attracted increasing interest due to
the excitons' unique coupling to spin and orbital degrees of freedom. The
non-equilibrium driving of such dressed quasiparticles offers a promising
platform for realizing unconventional many-body phenomena and phases beyond
thermodynamic equilibrium. Here, we achieve this in the van der Waals
correlated insulator NiPS by photoexciting its newly discovered
spin-orbit-entangled excitons that arise from Zhang-Rice states. By monitoring
the time evolution of the terahertz conductivity, we observe the coexistence of
itinerant carriers produced by exciton dissociation and the long-wavelength
antiferromagnetic magnon that coherently precesses in time. These results
demonstrate the emergence of a transient metallic state that preserves
long-range antiferromagnetism, a phase that cannot be reached by simply tuning
the temperature. More broadly, our findings open an avenue toward the
exciton-mediated optical manipulation of magnetism.Comment: 24 pages, 23 figure
Family name distributions: Master equation approach
Although cumulative family name distributions in many countries exhibit
power-law forms, there also exist counterexamples. The origin of different
family name distributions across countries is discussed analytically in the
framework of a population dynamics model. Combined with empirical observations
made, it is suggested that those differences in distributions are closely

Dynamic instabilities induced by asymmetric influence: Prisoners' dilemma game on small-world networks
A two-dimensional small-world type network, subject to spatial prisoners'
dilemma dynamics and containing an influential node defined as a special node
with a finite density of directed random links to the other nodes in the
network, is numerically investigated. It is shown that the degree of
cooperation does not remain at a steady state level but displays a punctuated
equilibrium type behavior manifested by the existence of sudden breakdowns of
cooperation. The breakdown of cooperation is linked to an imitation of a
successful selfish strategy of the influential node. It is also found that
while the breakdown of cooperation occurs suddenly, the recovery of it requires
longer time. This recovery time may, depending on the degree of steady state
cooperation, either increase or decrease with an increasing number of long

Overnight switch from ropinirole to transdermal rotigotine patch in patients with Parkinson disease
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>A recent trial involving predominantly Caucasian subjects with Parkinson Disease (PD) showed switching overnight from an oral dopaminergic agonist to the rotigotine patch was well tolerated without loss of efficacy. However, no such data have been generated for Korean patients.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This open-label multicenter trial investigated PD patients whose symptoms were not satisfactorily controlled by ropinirole, at a total daily dose of 3 mg to 12 mg, taken as monotherapy or as an adjunct to levodopa. Switching treatment from oral ropinirole to transdermal rotigotine was carried out overnight, with a dosage ratio of 1.5:1. After a 28-day treatment period, the safety and tolerability of switching was evaluated. Due to the exploratory nature of this trial, the effects of rotigotine on motor and nonmotor symptoms of PD were analyzed in a descriptive manner.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Of the 116 subjects who received at least one treatment, 99 (85%) completed the 28-day trial period. Dose adjustments were required for 11 subjects who completed the treatment period. A total of 76 treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs) occurred in 45 subjects. No subject experienced a serious AE. Thirteen subjects discontinued rotigotine prematurely due to AEs. Efficacy results suggested improvements in both motor and nonmotor symptoms and quality of life after switching. Fifty-two subjects (46%) agreed that they preferred using the patch over oral medications, while 31 (28%) disagreed.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Switching treatment overnight from oral ropinirole to transdermal rotigotine patch, using a dosage ratio of 1.5:1, was well tolerated in Korean patients with no loss of efficacy.</p> <p>Trial registration</p> <p>This trial is registered with the ClincalTrails.gov Registry (<a href="http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00593606">NCT00593606</a>).</p
Kinase inhibitor pulldown assay identifies a chemotherapy response signature in triple-negative breast cancer based on purine-binding proteins
UNLABELLED: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) constitutes 10%-15% of all breast tumors. The current standard of care is multiagent chemotherapy, which is effective in only a subset of patients. The original objective of this study was to deploy a mass spectrometry (MS)-based kinase inhibitor pulldown assay (KIPA) to identify kinases elevated in non-pCR (pathologic complete response) cases for therapeutic targeting. Frozen optimal cutting temperature compound-embedded core needle biopsies were obtained from 43 patients with TNBC before docetaxel- and carboplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy. KIPA was applied to the native tumor lysates that were extracted from samples with high tumor content. Seven percent of all identified proteins were kinases, and none were significantly associated with lack of pCR. However, among a large population of off-target purine-binding proteins (PBP) identified, seven were enriched in pCR-associated samples (
SIGNIFICANCE: The identification of pretreatment predictive biomarkers for pCR in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy would advance precision treatment for TNBC.
