Angular Power Spectrum of the Microwave Background Anisotropy seen by the COBE Differential Microwave Radiometer
The angular power spectrum estimator developed by Peebles (1973) and Hauser &
Peebles (1973) has been modified and applied to the 2 year maps produced by the
COBE DMR. The power spectrum of the real sky has been compared to the power
spectra of a large number of simulated random skies produced with noise equal
to the observed noise and primordial density fluctuation power spectra of power
law form, with . Within the limited range of spatial scales
covered by the COBE DMR, corresponding to spherical harmonic indices 3 \leq
\ell \lsim 30, the best fitting value of the spectral index is with the Harrison-Zeldovich value approximately
0.5 below the best fit. For 3 \leq \ell \lsim 19, the best fit is . Comparing the COBE DMR at small to

Lower critical field measurements in YBa2Cu3O(6+x) single crystals
The temperature dependence of the lower critical field in YBa2Cu3O(6+x) single crystals was determined by magnetization measurements with the applied field parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis. Results are compared with data from the literature and fitted to Ginzberg-Landau equations by assuming a linear dependence of the parameter kappa on temperature. A value of 7 plus or minus 2 kOe was estimated for the thermodynamic critical field at T = O by comparison of calculated H (sub c2) values with experimental data from the literature
Measurement of H(sub c1) in a single crystal of YBa2Cu3O7 with low pinning
The measurement of H(sub c1) in barium yttrium copper oxide (BYCO) is often ambiguous because the presence of large pinning forces makes it difficult to discern exactly where the first deviation from linearity occurs. In addition there are complications because demagnetizing factors are often not well known. By utilizing a single crystal of YBCO with a nearly cubic shape, the uncertainty in the demagnetizing factor was minimized. In addition, the crystal used exhibited a very small amount of pinning with H applied perpendicular to the c axis, and a sharp break in the initial magnetization vs. field curve could be observed over a wide range of temperature. This allowed a precise determination of H(sub c1). The measured values of H(sub c1) could be well described by the Abrikosov relation with a Ginzburg-Landau parameter which varied linearly with temperature
F(750), We Miss You as a Bound State of 6 Top and 6 Antitop Quarks, Multiple Point Principle
We review our speculation, that in the pure Standard Model the exchange of
Higgses, including also the ones "eaten by and Z", and of gluons
together make a bound state of 6 top plus 6 anti top quarks bind so strongly
that its mass gets down to about 1/3 of the mass of the collective mass 12
of the 12 constituent quarks. The true importance of this speculated
bound state is that it makes it possible to uphold, even inside the Standard
Mode, our proposal for what is really a new law of nature saying that there are
several phases of empty space, vacua, all having very small energy densities
(of the order of the present energy density in the universe). The reason
suggested for believing in this new law called the "Multiple (Criticality)
Point Principle" is, that estimating the mass of the speculated bound state
using the "Multiple Point Principle" leads to two consistent mass-values; and
they even agree with a crude bag-model like estimate of the mass of this bound
state. Very, unfortunately, the statistical fluctuation so popular last year,
when interpreted as the digamma resonance F(750), turned out not to be a real
resonance, because our estimated bound state mass is just around the mass of

Physical realizations of quantum operations
Quantum operations (QO) describe any state change allowed in quantum
mechanics, such as the evolution of an open system or the state change due to a
measurement. We address the problem of which unitary transformations and which
observables can be used to achieve a QO with generally different input and
output Hilbert spaces. We classify all unitary extensions of a QO, and give
explicit realizations in terms of free-evolution direct-sum dilations and
interacting tensor-product dilations. In terms of Hilbert space dimensionality
the free-evolution dilations minimize the physical resources needed to realize
the QO, and for this case we provide bounds for the dimension of the ancilla
space versus the rank of the QO. The interacting dilations, on the other hand,
correspond to the customary ancilla-system interaction realization, and for
these we derive a majorization relation which selects the allowed unitary

Implementation of the Multiple Point Principle in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model of type II
The multiple point principle (MPP) is applied to the non--supersymmetric
two-Higgs doublet extension of the Standard Model (SM). The existence of a
large set of degenerate vacua at some high energy scale caused by the MPP
results in a few relations between Higgs self-coupling constants which can be
examined at future colliders. The numerical analysis reveals that these MPP
conditions constrain the mass of the SM--like Higgs boson to lie below 180 GeV
