Data-driven interpolation of dynamical systems with delay
We present a data-driven realization for systems with delay, which generalizes the Loewner framework. The realization is obtained with low computational cost directly from measured data of the transfer function. The internal delay is estimated by solving a least-square optimization over some sample data. Our approach is validated by several examples, which indicate the need for preserving the delay structure in the reduced model.DFG, SFB 1029, Substantial efficiency increase in gas turbines through direct use of coupled unsteady combustion and flow dynamic
AudioPairBank: Towards A Large-Scale Tag-Pair-Based Audio Content Analysis
Recently, sound recognition has been used to identify sounds, such as car and
river. However, sounds have nuances that may be better described by
adjective-noun pairs such as slow car, and verb-noun pairs such as flying
insects, which are under explored. Therefore, in this work we investigate the
relation between audio content and both adjective-noun pairs and verb-noun
pairs. Due to the lack of datasets with these kinds of annotations, we
collected and processed the AudioPairBank corpus consisting of a combined total
of 1,123 pairs and over 33,000 audio files. One contribution is the previously
unavailable documentation of the challenges and implications of collecting
audio recordings with these type of labels. A second contribution is to show
the degree of correlation between the audio content and the labels through
sound recognition experiments, which yielded results of 70% accuracy, hence
also providing a performance benchmark. The results and study in this paper
encourage further exploration of the nuances in audio and are meant to
complement similar research performed on images and text in multimedia
analysis.Comment: This paper is a revised version of "AudioSentibank: Large-scale

Beyond click chemistry: Ruthenium(II) complexes of tridentate ligands featuring 1,2,3- triazole-derived donors
This thesis focusses on the design of new ruthenium(II) complexes featuring tridentate ligand platforms based on 1,2,3-triazoles. The latter not only offers a facile and modular ligand synthesis but also various coordination modes, thereby enabling the design of functionalized bis(tridentate) ruthenium(II) complexes with tailored properties. It is demonstrated that the notoriously short lifetimes of the charge-separated excited state of bis(tridentate) ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes can be substantially prolonged by partially replacing pyridines with 1,2,3-triazolylidenes. Moreover, aiming at application in the dye-sensitized solar cell, different types of bis(tridentate) ruthenium(II) complexes bearing an anionic 1,2,3-triazole-derived ligand as thiocyanate surrogate and a terpyridine-based anchoring ligand were studied. The metal is either coordinated by an N^C^N-cyclometalating ligand featuring peripheral 1,2,3-triazole donors or by a tridentate ligand consisting of two anionic 1,2,3-triazolates and a central pyridine ring. In both cases, the ruthenium(II) complexes exhibit sufficiently long excited-state lifetimes and suitable ground- and excited-state redox potentials for applications in a conventional dye-sensitized solar cell. Accordingly, the new dyes achieved power conversion efficiencies approaching the values obtained with a thiocyanate-containing ruthenium(II) benchmark sensitizer (N749) under identical conditions. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that conductive, photo-redox active metallopolymer films can be obtained via anodic electrolpolymerization of thiophene-functionalized, 1,2,3-triazole-containing cyclometalated ruthenium(II) complexes.

Hybrid genome assembly and annotation of Danionella translucida
Studying neuronal circuits at cellular resolution is very challenging in vertebrates due to the size and optical turbidity of their brains. Danionella translucida, a close relative of zebrafish, was recently introduced as a model organism for investigating neural network interactions in adult individuals. Danionella remains transparent throughout its life, has the smallest known vertebrate brain and possesses a rich repertoire of complex behaviours. Here we sequenced, assembled and annotated the Danionella translucida genome employing a hybrid Illumina/Nanopore read library as well as RNA-seq of embryonic, larval and adult mRNA. We achieved high assembly continuity using low-coverage long-read data and annotated a large fraction of the transcriptome. This dataset will pave the way for molecular research and targeted genetic manipulation of this novel model organism
