Cross-lingual Editing in Multilingual Language Models
The training of large language models (LLMs) necessitates substantial data
and computational resources, and updating outdated LLMs entails significant
efforts and resources. While numerous model editing techniques (METs) have
emerged to efficiently update model outputs without retraining, their
effectiveness in multilingual LLMs, where knowledge is stored in diverse
languages, remains an underexplored research area. This research paper
introduces the cross-lingual model editing (\textbf{XME}) paradigm, wherein a
fact is edited in one language, and the subsequent update propagation is
observed across other languages. To investigate the XME paradigm, we conducted
experiments using BLOOM, mBERT, and XLM-RoBERTa using the two writing scripts:
\textit{Latin} (English, French, and Spanish) and \textit{Indic} (Hindi,
Gujarati, and Bengali). The results reveal notable performance limitations of
state-of-the-art METs under the XME setting, mainly when the languages involved
belong to two distinct script families. These findings highlight the need for
further research and development of XME techniques to address these challenges.

Periodic Peritoneal Dialysis in End Stage Renal Disease: Is it Still Relevant? A Single Center Study from India
Background: High cost of maintenance hemodialysis (HD) and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (PD) in India has made renal replacement therapy out of reach of many patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD). Repeated puncture PD although inferior to HD biochemically, is easily and freely available across Rajasthan, India, and is simple to perform, and does not require sophisticated machines, thus making it an attractive option for dialysis for ESRD. Aim: To analyze the outcomes of periodic PD in patients with ESRD requiring dialysis support. Subjects and Methods: A prospective study analyzing the data of patients who underwent PD between August 2010 and January 2013 in Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur, India was conducted. Patients were divided into three groups based on the time period between first and second session of PD. Detailed demographic and clinical data during the study period were collected along with PD related complications. The main outcome studied was technique survival 1 year post initiation of PD. Results: 234 patients received an initial session of PD, of which 174 had a good response and were included in the study. 19 patients received the second PD within 7 days of first (Group 1), 45 patients within 8–14 days (Group 2) and 110 patients within 15–21 days (Group 3). The overall 1 year technique survival was 68.4% (91/133), with a rate of 50% (5/10), 56.8% (21/37), and 75.6% (65/86) for Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3, respectively. The time duration between first and second PD proved to be reliable indicator of the subsequent response, with a technique survival rate significantly lower in Group 1 patients compared to Groups 2 and 3 (P = 0.04). Median dialysis free days were 11, 16 and 21 days in Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3, respectively. Peritonitis rate observed was 2.1% (49/2261) during the study period. Conclusion: Periodic PD is a simple, safe and cheap procedure, which can be considered as used as a palliative measure in terminal uremia in underprivileged areas.Keywords: Peritoneal dialysis, End stage renal disease, Renal replacement therap
Creep Failure Estimation of Distribution Transformers
Abstract This paper details about reasons of failure in distribution transformers (DTs). It has been proposed that creep may be a major reason for such failures. The effect of stress, temperature, and material on steady state creep rate on aluminium and copper wires (used in 25 kVA distribution transformers) has been presented. Proposed study confirms that the failure rate of aluminium wound DTs is higher than the failure rate of copper wound DTs in power deficient areas and poor distribution networks. Reduction in seed cotton yield corresponding with symptom severity grades of cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

A field study (2012-2017) was conducted to assess seed cotton yield on Bt cotton cultivars analogous to the symptom rating scales (DRS) of CLCuD. The DRS is used to derive the percent disease intensity (PDI). The chromium site in doped glassy lithium tetraborate
Using extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy, we find that Cr substitutes primarily in the Liþ site as a dopant in lithium tetraborate Li2B4O7 glasses, in this case 98.4Li2B4O7e1.6Cr2O3 or nominally Li1.98Cr0.025B4O7. This strong preference for a single site is nonetheless accompanied by site distortions and some site disorder, helping explain the optical properties of chromium doped Li2B4O7 glasses. The resulting O coordination shell has a contraction of the Cr-O bond lengths as compared to the Li-O bond lengths. There is also an increase in the O coordination number

Dietary patterns are not associated with disease activity among patients with inflammatory conditions of the pouch in a prospective cohort
BACKGROUND: Evidence-based recommendations regarding the influence of diet on inflammatory conditions of the pouch after restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) are limited.
METHODS: We analyzed dietary patterns at enrollment in a prospective registry of patients with 1 of 4 inflammatory conditions of the pouch (acute pouchitis, chronic antibiotic-dependent pouchitis, chronic antibiotic refractory pouchitis, and Crohn\u27s disease of the pouch). We analyzed dietary intake by disease activity at enrollment and then compared dietary patterns among patients who remained in remission throughout the 12-month follow-up to those patients who experienced a disease relapse. We also compared dietary patterns among patients with inflammatory conditions of the pouch to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommended daily goals.
RESULTS: Among 308 patients, there were no differences in dietary patterns among patients with 1 of the 4 disease states at enrollment. Additionally, among the 102 patients in remission at baseline, there were no significant differences noted among patients who went on to experience a disease flare in the 12 months after enrollment compared to those patients who remained in remission. However, patients with inflammatory conditions of the pouch demonstrated decreased intake of several food groups and macronutrients including dairy, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fiber when compared to USDA recommendations.
CONCLUSIONS: In a prospective cohort, we demonstrated no impact of dietary patterns on disease activity. The relative deficiencies in several food groups and macronutrients among patients after IPAA indicate the potential role of targeted nutritional counseling in this population
Treatment patterns and standardized outcome assessments among patients with inflammatory conditions of the pouch in a prospective multicenter registry
BACKGROUND: Much of our understanding about the natural history of pouch-related disorders has been generated from selected populations. We designed a geographically diverse, prospective registry to study the disease course among patients with 1 of 4 inflammatory conditions of the pouch. The primary objectives in this study were to demonstrate the feasibility of a prospective pouch registry and to evaluate the predominant treatment patterns for pouch-related disorders.
METHODS: We used standardized diagnostic criteria to prospectively enroll patients with acute pouchitis, chronic antibiotic-dependent pouchitis (CADP), chronic antibiotic refractory pouchitis (CARP), or Crohn\u27s disease (CD) of the pouch. We obtained detailed clinical and demographic data at the time of enrollment, along with patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures.
RESULTS: We enrolled 318 patients (10% acute pouchitis, 27% CADP, 12% CARP, and 51% CD of the pouch). Among all patients, 55% were on a biologic or small molecule therapy. Patients with CD of the pouch were more likely to use several classes of therapy (
CONCLUSIONS: In a population where most patients had refractory inflammatory conditions of the pouch, we established a framework to evaluate PROs and clinical effectiveness. This infrastructure will be valuable for long-term studies of real-world effectiveness for pouch-related disorders

All-sky search for short gravitational-wave bursts in the second Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo run
We present the results of a search for short-duration gravitational-wave transients in the data from the second observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo. We search for gravitational-wave transients with a duration of milliseconds to approximately one second in the 32-4096 Hz frequency band with minimal assumptions about the signal properties, thus targeting a wide variety of sources. We also perform a matched-filter search for gravitational-wave transients from cosmic string cusps for which the waveform is well modeled. The unmodeled search detected gravitational waves from several binary black hole mergers which have been identified by previous analyses. No other significant events have been found by either the unmodeled search or the cosmic string search. We thus present the search sensitivities for a variety of signal waveforms and report upper limits on the source rate density as a function of the characteristic frequency of the signal. These upper limits are a factor of 3 lower than the first observing run, with a 50% detection probability for gravitational-wave emissions with energies of ∼10-9 Mc2 at 153 Hz.
