    A 64-channel inductively-powered neural recording sensor array

    Get PDF
This paper reports a 64-channel inductively powered neural recording sensor array. Neural signals are acquired, filtered, digitized and compressed in the channels. Additionally, each channel implements a local auto-calibration mechanism which configures the transfer characteristics of the recording site. The system has two operation modes; in one case the information captured by the channels is sent as uncompressed raw data; in the other, feature vectors extracted from the detected neural spikes are transmitted. Data streams coming from the channels are serialized by an embedded digital processor and transferred to the outside by means of the same inductive link used for powering the system. Simulation results show that the power consumption of the complete system is 377μW.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TEC2009-0844

    A mixed-signal integrated circuit for FM-DCSK modulation

    Get PDF
This paper presents a mixed-signal application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for a frequency-modulated differential chaos shift keying (FM-DCSK) communication system. The chip is conceived to serve as an experimental platform for the evaluation of the FM-DCSK modulation scheme, and includes several programming features toward this goal. The operation of the ASIC is herein illustrated for a data rate of 500 kb/s and a transmission bandwidth in the range of 17 MHz. Using signals acquired from the test platform, bit error rate (BER) estimations of the overall FM-DCSK communication link have been obtained assuming wireless transmission at the 2.4-GHz ISM band. Under all tested propagation conditions, including multipath effects, the system obtains a BER = 10-3 for Eb/No lower than 28 dB.Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología TIC2003-0235

A power efficient neural spike recording channel with data bandwidth reduction

    Get PDF
This paper presents a mixed-signal neural spike recording channel which features, as an added value, a simple and low-power data compression mechanism. The channel uses a band-limited differential low noise amplifier and a binary search data converter, together with other digital and analog blocks for control, programming and spike characterization. The channel offers a self-calibration operation mode and it can be configured both for signal tracking (to raw digitize the acquired neural waveform) and feature extraction (to build a first-order PWL approximation of the spikes). The prototype has been fabricated in a standard CMOS 0.13μm and occupies 400μm×400μm. The overall power consumption of the channel during signal tracking is 2.8μW and increases to 3.0μW average when the feature extraction operation mode is programmed.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TEC2009-08447Junta de Andalucía TIC-0281

Baseband-processor for a passive UHF RFID transponder

    Get PDF
This paper describes the design of a digital processor targeting the Class-1 Generation-2 EPC Protocol for UHF RFID transponders, and proposes different techniques for reducing its power consumption. The processor has been implemented in a 0.35μm CMOS technology process using automatic tools for both the logic synthesis and layout. Post-layout simulations confirm the fully functionality of the prototype and predict a worst-case power consumption of only 2.9μA at 1.2V supply.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia TEC2006-03022, TEC2009-08447Junta de Andalucía TIC-0281

La solicitud de Santo Toribio por el patrimonio religioso del Perú

When Juan Pablo II came to Peru, his central conference for the Peruvian bishops was about the four stagesof St. Toribio: his life of holiness, his commitment in the complete education of natives, his commitmentto integration and communion and his close relationship with the papacy. The fourth are like pillars of hismission and vocations of the Peruvian church builder. This holy father of the American Church, in wordsof his first biographer Leon Pinelo: “he didn’t’ waste his time” and he began working the Church, whichhe called “the new Christendom of the Indies”. Thirteen diocesan synods, three provincial councils withhis catechetical instruments such as the Trilingual Catechism (in Spanish, Quechua and Aymara) andthe Pastoral visits. Instigator of institutions such as the Santa Clara Seminary or Convent, organizationsas a new association, parishes and towns .During 25 years, they laid the basis of the current Peruvianreligious heritage. This heritage is reflected in the culture of holiness of his contemporaries such as Roseof Lima and Martin who St. Toribio confirmed, Juan Macias, Francisco Solano and a lot of Blessedand servants of god who he also helped. But also St. Toribio helped in the building of churches likethe Cathedral, Convents such as Santa Clara and the numerous parishes and chapels, fraternities anddoctrines, dispersed throughout all his archbishop territory. On the Analysis and Detection of Flames Withan Asynchronous Spiking Image Sensor

    Get PDF
We have investigated the capabilities of a customasynchronous spiking image sensor operating in the NearInfrared band to study flame radiation emissions, monitortheir transient activity, and detect their presence. Asynchronoussensors have inherent capabilities, i.e., good temporal resolution, high dynamic range, and low data redundancy. This makesthem competitive against infrared (IR) cameras and CMOSframe-based NIR imagers. In this paper, we analyze, discuss, and compare the experimental data measured with our sensoragainst results obtained with conventional devices. A set ofmeasurements have been taken to study the flame emissionlevels and their transient variations. Moreover, a flame detectionalgorithm, adapted to our sensor asynchronous outputs, has beendeveloped. Results show that asynchronous spiking sensors havean excellent potential for flame analysis and monitoring.Universidad de Cádiz PR2016-07Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2015-66878-C3-1-RJunta de Andalucía TIC 2012-2338Office of Naval Research (USA) N00014141035
