Sympathoadrenergic modulation of hematopoiesis: a review of available evidence and of therapeutic perspectives

Innervation of the bone marrow (BM) has been described more than one century ago, however the first in vivo evidence that sympathoadrenergic fibers have a role in hematopoiesis dates back to less than 25 years ago. Evidence has since increased showing that adrenergic nerves in the BM release noradrenaline and possibly also dopamine, which act on adrenoceptors and dopaminergic receptors expressed on hematopoietic cells and affect cell survival, proliferation, migration and engraftment ability. Remarkably, dysregulation of adrenergic fibers to the BM is associated with hematopoietic disturbances and myeloproliferative disease. Several adrenergic and dopaminergic agents are already in clinical use for non-hematological indications and with a usually favourable risk-benefit profile, and are therefore potential candidates for non-conventional modulation of hematopoiesis

Chances of a code of ethics of social work

Zu den wesentlichen Prinzipen der Sozialen Arbeit zählen die Anerkennung und Achtung der Menschenrechte sowie die Förderung der sozialen Gerechtigkeit. Schriftlich verankert ist dies unter anderem im internationalen Ethikkodex der Sozialen Arbeit („Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles“). In Anbetracht eines bis dato fehlenden nationalen Ethikkodexes in Österreich beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Arbeit mit der Frage, inwiefern ein solcher hilfreich sein kann, um professionelle Grundhaltungen, Werte und Prinzipien in Hinblick auf die Situation von Menschen, die von Bettelverboten betroffen sind, in der sozialarbeiterischen Praxis umzusetzen. Ein spezieller Fokus liegt dabei auf der Gesetzeslage in Wien. Es wird veranschaulicht, dass aufgrund der repressiven Maßnahmen und der Vollziehung der Bettelverbote grundlegende Rechte von Bettler*innen verletzt werden, die den ethischen Standards und grundlegenden Haltungen wie Prinzipien der Profession widersprechen. Die Arbeit versucht abschließend darzustellen, welche Chancen und Möglichkeiten in einem Ethikkodex in Zusammenhang mit der Verbesserung der Lebenssituation von Menschen, die von Bettelverboten betroffen sind, liegen.Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work. Both are an-chored in a document called “Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles”, also known as the international code of ethics of social work. Due to the lack of a national code of ethics of social work in Austria, this body of work deals with the potential help of such a document in the context of people who are affected by the prohibition of begging. The main focus lies on the current law in Vienna. Diametrically opposed to ethical standards and values of social work oppressive measures taken by the state violate the basic human rights of beggars. In conclusion, this thesis tries to show the chances and possibilities of a code of ethics connected to the improvement of real life situations of people affected by the prohibition of begging
