Integral Management: Knowledge on the MER Model in Postgraduate Master's Study Programs
In the contribution we represent how the knowledge on the MER Model of integral management is built in the master's study programs on the case of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Maribor. The MER Model of integral management has been developing at the research Institute MER Eurocentre in Slovenia and is the result of the cooperation of researchers from different countries. The research work on the development of MER Model started in 1992; the first attempts of building the knowledge on the MER Model dated back to 1994. Based on the acquired experiences of the past decade more systematical incorporation of the MER Model in the new study programs (so called Bologna study programs) was possible after 2004.management, integral management, management models, study programs, MER Model of integral management

Exploring Enterprise Life Cycle: Differences in Informal and Formal Institutional Measures of Business Ethics Implementation
Since science recognizes the fact that an enterprise passes through different life cycle stages, and that life cycle stages differ in terms of management systems, formal structures, control systems, documentation of transactions, and number of procedural hurdles, our main research problem was focused on differences in informal and formal institutional measures of business ethics implementation. The case study research methodology was applied to explore the differences of informal and formal institutional measures of business ethics implementation at different stages of enterprise life cycle. The pre-designed questionnaire was used in conducting face-to-face interviews with 40 managers who were in most cases also owners of the studied enterprises.
Ultrastructural studies of the mitochondriae in the striated muscles of birds with regard to experimental hypokinesis
Electron microscopic studies were carried out on the mitochrondria of the transversely striated muscles with regard to experimental hypokinesia. As compared to the central group the mitochondria of m. pectoralis thoracicus and the m. iliotibialis posterior in hypokinetic birds reveal marked changes. In filamentous and ovoid mitochondria, vacuoles can be observed which in some cases produced larger light formations with following disappearance of the cristae and destruction of mitochondria. Fat particles located at the poles of the altered mitochondria, sporadically occurring also laterally, presented another finding. The Z-lines of the sarcomere did not form a continuous line, but were somewhat shifted
Preparing for the future of computing: bridging meso- and continuum within the ecascale materials codesign center
The advent of Advanced/Additive Manufacturing and the Materials Genome Initiative has placed significant emphasis on accelerating the qualification of new materials for use in real applications. Within these workflows lies both the engineering scale qualification through building and testing components at scale and full-scale modeling with integrated continuum computer codes and the materials scale qualification through revolutionary methods to nondestructively measure microstructure (3DXRD) and physics specific experiments coupled with mesoscale mechanics simulations of the same physics specific experiment using the same microstructure. This is one of the use cases that drives the Exascale Materials Codesign Center (ExMatEx). The goal of the Codesign Center is very analogous to the acceleration of new materials deployment within the MGI, rather codesign accelerates the deploying of laboratory concepts for future computer components to enable a productive exascale computer system. To enable better mesoscale understanding in the continuum models, ExMatEx is creating a direct coupling between the continuum integrated code and direct numerical simulation of the mesoscale phenomena. Here, we review the ExMatEx project, its use cases and, in particular, the continuum \u3c–\u3e meso-scale coupling. *PIs: Jim Belak and Tim Germann http://science.energy.gov/ascr/research/scidac/co-design/ http://www.exmatex.org Prepared by LLNL under Contract DE-AC52-07NA27344
Spatiotemporal variability of rockfish recruitment on California\u27s north coast in relation to habitat availability
Characterizing primary drivers of temporal and spatial variability in recruitment is imperative to understanding the role of pre- and post-settlement processes influencing marine population dynamics. On benthic reefs, the quality and quantity of suitable settlement habitat can alter post-settlement density-dependent mortality rates and increase chances of survival. The north coast of California has experienced highly unusual oceanographic conditions in recent years, leading to severe loss of highly productive kelp forests and potentially deleterious ecosystem consequences. In the present thesis, I aimed to determine the effects of canopy-forming bull kelp (Nereocystis) and alternative complex habitats on the recruitment of several kelp-associating species of rockfish (genus Sebastes), an ecologically and economically important demersal fish on nearshore rocky reefs. Zero-altered mixed models were employed to analyze the presence and abundance of rockfish recruits seen in two datasets of differing spatiotemporal scales. “Coarse-scale” annual surveys were conducted across 430 km of northern California coastline for five years as part of a long-term Marine Protected Area monitoring effort. To better resolve seasonal recruitment patterns, a “fine-scale” study was also designed, which consisted of one year of monthly surveys concentrated over 10 km in Mendocino County. Rates of settlement, habitat availability, and spatiotemporal factors were explored as effects on rockfish recruitment rates. Model results confirm previously-documented high interannual variability in recruitment but also suggest that rockfish young-of-the-year primarily use complex habitats other than bull kelp as shelter during recruitment. The probability of presence of new recruits was strongly associated with timing of settlement and latitude, indicating that large-scale oceanographic effects likely play a role in predicting the distribution of rockfish. Recruit density was positively related to the abundance of understory algae and negatively correlated with low relief and bull kelp density. Although reliance on surface kelp canopy has been documented elsewhere, rockfish recruit habitat preferences had not been previously described in northern California, and understanding the strength of habitat associations during a period of severe kelp decline will help to anticipate how rockfish populations might respond to environmental variation. While this study spanned a time of unusual oceanographic conditions, my results suggest that young-of-the-year may still be able to find suitable refuge in understory algae and high-relief reefs for survival
MER Model of Integral Management: Culture as Enterprise’s Key Success Factor
Enterprise culture is judged by many acknowledged scientists and researchers now as a major determinant of any enterprise’s success. The present article shows the research cognitions on the impact of enterprise culture to the success of the enterprises observed.
Electron microscopical and histochemical studies on the transverse striated muscles of birds after prolonged hypokinesis
Studies of the gastrocnemius muscle were carried out in 4 month old cockerels of the laying hybrid after hypokinesis lasting 15 and 30 days. It was found that restricted movement resulted in dystrophic changes of myotibrils, enlargement of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and oedem of interfibrillar spaces. Histochemical studies revealed focuses of increased activity of non-specific esterase, decreased activity of dehydrogenase of lactic acid and a positive reaction of acid phosphatase

Three-dimensional molecular dynamics simulations of void coalescence during dynamic fracture of ductile metals
Void coalescence and interaction in dynamic fracture of ductile metals have
been investigated using three-dimensional strain-controlled multi-million atom
molecular dynamics simulations of copper. The correlated growth of two voids
during the coalescence process leading to fracture is investigated, both in
terms of its onset and the ensuing dynamical interactions. Void interactions
are quantified through the rate of reduction of the distance between the voids,
through the correlated directional growth of the voids, and through correlated
shape evolution of the voids. The critical inter-void ligament distance marking
the onset of coalescence is shown to be approximately one void radius based on
the quantification measurements used, independent of the initial separation
distance between the voids and the strain-rate of the expansion of the system.
The interaction of the voids is not reflected in the volumetric asymptotic
growth rate of the voids, as demonstrated here. Finally, the practice of using
a single void and periodic boundary conditions to study coalescence is examined
critically and shown to produce results markedly different than the coalescence
of a pair of isolated voids.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review
