LEGAL ACTS OPERATING IN POLAND CONCERNING FIRST AID Patrycja Misztal-Okońska, Mariusz Goniewicz, Kamil Bednarz 1 Medical Rescue Department of Medical University of Lublin Abstract Having knowledge and skills in first aid is extremely important as this has a huge impact on the health and life of the injured person during an emergency. In Poland, the issue of the obligation to provide first aid is governed by a number of legal acts, so that citizens can feel secure in the hope that they will be assisted by witnesses if necessary. The paper presents the legal acts in force in Poland that mention the obligation to provide first aid. Its aim, in addition to discussing the most important laws and regulations, is to emphasize the essential need to acquire and update skills in this area. Keywords: first aid, legal act

Abstract Diseases of the circulatory system in adults has been the most common cause of death for a long time. Despite the fact that statistically the number of people affected by those diseases is decreasing over the years, the epidemic of obesity and diabetes has a great impact on accelerated developing of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and its complications, such as angina pectoris and heart attack. The aim of this paper is to analyse the cases of acute coronary syndrome, which Emergency Medical Services Teams were dispatched to. The study was conducted using medical records collected within the period of one year (01.01.2014 – 31.12.2014) by the Regional Ambulance Service in Lublin. The study confirmed that men living in cites are at the highest risk of developing acute coronary syndrome. Among women the symptoms occur at an older age

Consequences of using psychoactive substances are always negative. They cause not only physical and mental dependence, but also huge damage in the body in case of poisoning. The toxicity of these substances varies and depends on the type of chemical compound. The effects can be difficult to predict and often can pose a direct threat to life and health. The objective of this study was to analyse the causes and consequences of poisoning with psychoactive substances among patients hospitalized in the Emergency Department of Stefan Kardynał Wyszyński Province Specialist Hospital in Lublin within the period of one year (01.01.2016 - 31.12.2016). Our own study results showed that men and people living in urban areas were the patients most frequently admitted to the Emergency Department due to poisoning. Alcohol was the most common psychoactive substance used by the patients in the study group. Poisoning with anti-epileptic, sedative-hypnotic and psychotropic medications predominated among women, whereas alcohol and narcotics and psychodysleptic medications were the most frequent cause of poisoning among men

First finding of the Eneolithic copper axe from Mazovia

    No full text
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki studiów archeometalurgicznych dotyczących płaskiej siekiery, odkrytej przypadkowo w 2016 r. na gruntach miejscowości Łady, gm. Iłów, pow. sochaczewski. Zabytek jest pierwszym okazem eneolitycznej siekiery miedzianej z Mazowsza. Przeprowadzono badanie składu surowcowego siekiery (EDXRF) i analizę jej powierzchni (OM). This work presents the archaeometallurgical studies performed on the flat axe discovered accidentally in 2016 near the village Łady, Iłów commune, Sochaczew district. The axe is the first find of such an object reported from Mazovia. The axe is described in terms of raw-material profile (EDXRF) as well as its macrostucture (OM). This has been juxtaposed throughout this work with the results of typological and contextual (sociocultural) analysis of the Bytyń axes, which have also been found on Polish territory. It has been established that the axe was cast from arsenical copper. It is likely that the find from Łady did not serve as a functional tool in the past. The discovery context and the state of preservation indicate that the axe was deposited in an aquatic environment. By means of a typological analysis the find from Łady was classified as a flat axe of Bytyń A type and therefore it should be considered as the single hoard deposited by the Funnel Beaker culture communities from the Warsaw Basin between 3600/3500 and 3200/3100 cal. Recent Advances in Treatment Options for Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    No full text
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common blood cancer in pediatric patients. There has been enormous progress in ALL treatment in recent years, which is reflected by the increase in the 5-year OS from 57% in the 1970s to up to 96% in the most recent studies. ALL treatment is based primarily on conventional methods, which include chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Their main weakness is severe toxicity, which prompts dose reduction, decreases the effectiveness of the treatment, and, in some cases, can lead to death. Currently, numerous modifications in treatment regimens are applied in order to limit toxicities emerging from conventional approaches and improve outcomes. Hematological treatment of pediatric patients is reaching for more novel treatment options, such as targeted treatment, CAR-T-cells therapy, and immunotherapy. These methods are currently used in conjunction with chemotherapy. Nevertheless, the swift progress in their development and increasing efficacity can lead to applying those novel therapies as standalone therapeutic options for pediatric ALL

Human Gut Microbiota in Coronary Artery Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    No full text
In recent years, the importance of the gut microbiome in human health and disease has increased. Growing evidence suggests that gut dysbiosis might be a crucial risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether or not CAD is associated with specific changes in the gut microbiome. The V3–V4 regions of the 16S rDNA from fecal samples were analyzed to compare the gut microbiome composition between CAD patients and controls. Our search yielded 1181 articles, of which 21 met inclusion criteria for systematic review and 7 for meta-analysis. The alpha-diversity, including observed OTUs, Shannon and Simpson indices, was significantly decreased in CAD, indicating the reduced richness of the gut microbiome. The most consistent results in a systematic review and meta-analysis pointed out the reduced abundance of Bacteroidetes and Lachnospiraceae in CAD patients. Moreover, Enterobacteriaceae, Lactobacillus, and Streptococcus taxa demonstrated an increased trend in CAD patients. The alterations in the gut microbiota composition are associated with qualitative and quantitative changes in bacterial metabolites, many of which have pro-atherogenic effects on endothelial cells, increasing the risk of developing and progressing CAD
