Generation of two-photon EPR and Wstates
In this paper we present a scheme for generation of two-photon EPR and W
states in the cavity QED context. The scheme requires only one three-level
Rydberg atom and two or three cavities. The atom is sent to interact with
cavities previously prepared in vacuum states, via two-photon process. An
appropriate choice of the interaction times one obtains the mentioned state
with maximized fidelities. These specific times and the values of success
probability and fidelity are discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Dynamic clustering of time series with Echo State Networks
In this paper we introduce a novel methodology for unsupervised analysis of time series, based upon the iterative implementation of a clustering algorithm embedded into the evolution of a recurrent Echo State Network. The main features of the temporal data are captured by the dynamical evolution of the network states, which are then subject to a clustering procedure. We apply the proposed algorithm to time series coming from records of eye movements, called saccades, which are recorded for diagnosis of a neurodegenerative form of ataxia. This is a hard classification problem, since saccades from patients at an early stage of the disease are practically indistinguishable from those coming from healthy subjects. The unsupervised clustering algorithm implanted within the recurrent network produces more compact clusters, compared to conventional clustering of static data, and provides a source of information that could aid diagnosis and assessment of the disease.Universidad de Málaga. Anisotropic quark stars with an interacting quark equation of state
A deep exploration of the parameter space that relates the interacting equation of state with the bag constant B, and the interaction parameter a, is fundamental for the construction of diverse models of quark stars. In particular, the anisotropy of quark stars with a well-motivated quantum chromodynamics (QCD) equation of state is presented here. The contribution of the fourth order corrections parameter (a4) of the QCD perturbation on the radial and tangential pressure generate significant effects on the mass-radius relation and the stability of the quark star. An adequate set of solutions for several values of the bag factor and the interaction parameter are used in order to calculate the relation between the mass, radius, density, compactness, and consequently the maximum masses and the stability. Therefore, while the more interactive quark solution leads to higher masses, the weak interaction among quarks gives solutions similar to the widely known MIT bag model
Surface states in nearly modulated systems
A Landau model is used to study the phase behavior of the surface layer for
magnetic and cholesteric liquid crystal systems that are at or near a Lifshitz
point marking the boundary between modulated and homogeneous bulk phases. The
model incorporates surface and bulk fields and includes a term in the free
energy proportional to the square of the second derivative of the order
parameter in addition to the usual term involving the square of the first
derivative. In the limit of vanishing bulk field, three distinct types of
surface ordering are possible: a wetting layer, a non-wet layer having a small
deviation from bulk order, and a different non-wet layer with a large deviation
from bulk order which decays non-monotonically as distance from the wall
increases. In particular the large deviation non-wet layer is a feature of
systems at the Lifshitz point and also those having only homogeneous bulk
phases.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Phenomenological model for the remanent magnetization of dilute quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnets
We present a phenomenological model for the remanent magnetization at low
temperatures in the quasi-one-dimensional dilute antiferromagnets
CH_{3}NH_{3}Mn_{1-x}Cd_{x} Cl_{3}\cdot 2H_{2}O and
(CH_{3})_{2}NH_{2}Mn_{1-x}Cd_{x}Cl_{3}\cdot 2H_{2}O. The model assumes the
existence of uncompensated magnetic moments induced in the odd-sized segments
generated along the Mn(^{2+}) chains upon dilution. These moments are further
assumed to correlate ferromagnetically after removal of a cooling field. Using
a (mean-field) linear-chain approximation and reasonable set of model
parameters, we are able to reproduce the approximate linear temperature
dependence observed for the remanent magnetization in the real compounds.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures; final version to appear in Physical Review
