Maximum likelihood receivers for space-time coded MIMO systems with gaussian estimation errors

    Get PDF
Maximum likelihood (ML) receivers for space-time coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with Gaussian channel estimation errors are proposed. Two different cases are considered. In the first case, the conditional probability density function (PDF) of the channel estimate is assumed Gaussian and known. In the second case, the joint PDF of the channel estimate and the true channel gain is assumed Gaussian and known. In addition to ML signal detection for space-time coded MIMO with ML and minimum mean-squared-error channel estimation, ML signal detection without channel estimation is also studied. Two suboptimal structures are derived. The Alamouti space-time codes are used to examine the performances of the new receivers. Simulation results show that the new receivers can reduce the gap between the conventional receiver with channel estimation errors and the receiver with perfect channel knowledge at least by half in some cases

A Novel Weighted-Counter Method for Simulating Coherent TWDP Fading Channels

    Get PDF
New channel simulation models are needed for the study of future wireless networks, 5G and beyond. A novel simulation technique dubbed weighted-counting is proposed. It is used to generate random variates having the two-wave with diffuse power (TWDP) fading amplitude distribution. The TWDP channel model describes high-speed train, femtocell, sea surface, heterogeneous and other channels having two different dominant line-of-sight waves as well as scatter power components

A limited feedback scheme for massive MIMO systems based on principal component analysis

Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is becoming a key technology for future 5G cellular networks. Channel feedback for massive MIMO is challenging due to the substantially increased dimension of the channel matrix. This motivates us to explore a novel feedback reduction scheme based on the theory of principal component analysis (PCA). The proposed PCA-based feedback scheme exploits the spatial correlation characteristics of the massive MIMO channel models, since the transmit antennas are deployed compactly at the base station (BS). In the proposed scheme, the mobile station (MS) generates a compression matrix by operating PCA on the channel state information (CSI) over a long-term period, and utilizes the compression matrix to compress the spatially correlated high-dimensional CSI into a low-dimensional representation. Then, the compressed low-dimensional CSI is fed back to the BS in a short-term period. In order to recover the high-dimensional CSI at the BS, the compression matrix is refreshed and fed back from MS to BS at every long-term period. The information distortion of the proposed scheme is also investigated and a closed-form expression for an upper bound to the normalized information distortion is derived. The overhead analysis and numerical results show that the proposed scheme can offer a worthwhile tradeoff between the system capacity performance and implementation complexity including the feedback overhead and codebook search complexit

The Recent Star Formation History of NGC 5102

We present Hubble Space Telescope photometry of young stars in NGC 5102, a nearby gas-rich post-starburst S0 galaxy with a bright young stellar nucleus. We use the IAC-pop/MinnIAC algorithm to derive the recent star formation history in three fields in the bulge and disk of NGC 5102. In the disk fields, the recent star formation rate has declined monotonically and is now barely detectable, but a starburst is still in progress in the bulge and has added about 2 percent to the mass of the bulge over the last 200 Myr. Other studies of star formation in NGC 5102 indicate that about 20 percent of its stellar mass was added over the past Gyr. If this is correct, then much of the stellar mass of the bulge may have formed over this period. It seems likely that this star formation was fueled by the accretion of a gas-rich system with HI mass of about 2 x 10^9 Msol which has now been almost completely converted into stars. The large mass of recently formed stars and the blue colours of the bulge suggest that the current starburst, which is now fading, may have made a significant contribution to build the bulge of NGC 5102.Comment: 36 pages, 16 figures, accepted in A

Analysis of the Plant bos1 Mutant Highlights Necrosis as an Efficient Defence Mechanism during D. dadantii/Arabidospis thaliana Interaction

Dickeya dadantii is a broad host range phytopathogenic bacterium provoking soft rot disease on many plants including Arabidopsis. We showed that, after D. dadantii infection, the expression of the Arabidopsis BOS1 gene was specifically induced by the production of the bacterial PelB/C pectinases able to degrade pectin. This prompted us to analyze the interaction between the bos1 mutant and D. dadantii. The phenotype of the infected bos1 mutant is complex. Indeed, maceration symptoms occurred more rapidly in the bos1 mutant than in the wild type parent but at a later stage of infection, a necrosis developed around the inoculation site that provoked a halt in the progression of the maceration. This necrosis became systemic and spread throughout the whole plant, a phenotype reminiscent of that observed in some lesion mimic mutants. In accordance with the progression of maceration symptoms, bacterial population began to grow more rapidly in the bos1 mutant than in the wild type plant but, when necrosis appeared in the bos1 mutant, a reduction in bacterial population was observed. From the plant side, this complex interaction between D. dadantii and its host includes an early plant defence response that comprises reactive oxygen species (ROS) production accompanied by the reinforcement of the plant cell wall by protein cross-linking. At later timepoints, another plant defence is raised by the death of the plant cells surrounding the inoculation site. This plant cell death appears to constitute an efficient defence mechanism induced by D. dadantii during Arabidopsis infection

Diabetes Mellitus is well known as a chronic disease which can lead to a decrease in quality of life in all domains. The study aims to explore the diabetic type 2 patient\u27s quality of life and find out the factors affecting in type 2 diabetic mellitus patients. The cross-sectional study design is used that included 65 patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in 11 public health centers of Kupang City. Data were collected by using Short Form Survey (SF-36) that assessed 8-scale health profile. Independent sample t-test is used to analyze the correlation between the factors affecting and the quality of life. the study showed that the QoL of DM patients decreased in all 8- health profile including physical functioning, social functioning, mental health, general health, pain, change in the role due to physical problems and emotional problems. The Study also showed there was a relationship between gender, duration of suffering from Diabetes mellitus, and complications to the quality of life. Male perceived a better quality of life than female
