Multilayer Graphene Synthesized by CVD Using Liquid Hexane as the Carbon Precursor
We produce multilayer graphene by the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method
at atmospheric pressure and 1000 {\deg}C, using flexible copper substrates as
catalyst and liquid hexane as the source of carbon. We designed an optical
device to measure the transmittance of the carbon films; with this information
we calculate that the approximate number of layers is 11.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Accepted for publication in World Journal of

The Impact of Technical Change on Rural Labor Markets in the Philippines
Analysis of micro-level data confirms the effects of differential technical change on both the demand and the supply side of rural labor markets. Technical change affects to a certain extent rural migration. However, due to the inability of nonagricultural sector to absorb the increasing labor force, agriculture sector will continue to provide employment opportunities.labor force, labor mobility, agriculture sector, technical efficiency, rural sector, migration
Impact of Public Policies on Rural Informal Credit Markets in the Philippines: Synthesis of Survey Results and Lessons for Policy
In the nonperformance of the formal financial sector to cater to the needs of some groups, informal measures have been its substitute. The informal credit system becomes a vital channel of credit to small and poor borrowers and in the mobilization of rural savings through innovative mechanisms. Utilizing the results from various surveys, this article examines how the changes in rural financial markets and changes in agricultural policies have contributed in developing the structure and operation of the Philippine informal credit system.agriculture sector, credit market, borrower, savings

Microwave surface resistance of reactively sputtered NbN thin films
The surface resistance of niobium nitride (NBN) thin films was measured at 7.78 and 10.14 GHz in the temperature range of 1.5 to 4.2 K. The films were reactively sputtered on sapphire substrates to a thickness of approximately 1 micron. The surface resistance was determined by measuring the quality factor (Q) of the TE sub 011 mode of a lead-plated copper cavity where the NbN served as one end-cap of the cavity
Electron-Ion Recombination Rate Coefficients and Photoionization Cross Sections for Astrophysically Abundant Elements VI. Ni II
We present the first detailed ab initio quantum mechanical calculations for
total and state-specific recombination rate coefficients for e + Ni III --> Ni
II. These rates are obtained using a unified treatment for total electron-ion
recombination that treats the nonresonant radiative recombination and the
resonant dielectronic recombination in a self-consistent unified manner in the
close coupling approximation. Large-scale calculations are carried out using a
49-state wavefunction expansion from core configurations 3d^8, 3d^74s, and
3d^64p that permits the inclusion of prominent dipole allowed core transitions.
These extensive calculations for the recombination rates of Ni II required
hundreds of CPU hours on the Cray T90. The total recombination rate
coefficients are provided for a wide range of temperature. The state-specific
recombination rates for 532 bound states of doublet and quartet symmetries, and
the corresponding photoionization cross sections for leaving the core in the
ground state, are presented. Present total recombination rate coefficients
differ considerably from the currently used data in astrophysical models.Comment: ApJ Suppl. (submitted), 4 figure
CULTURE, MEDIA AND POWER: UNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE THROUGH MEDIA REPRESENTATION
The study aims to examine the culture and ideological underpinnings espoused by Newsette, the official publication of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D), through examination of headlines of articles pertaining to the promotion of culture of community extension service of DLSU-D. Specifically, it aims to: (1) define the ideology espoused on community service; (2) determine the linguistic concepts; (3) and examine the manipulation techniques used by the publication to its readers. Data were obtained through discourse analysis of the publication’s headlines. Analysis of this study allows an understanding of the standpoint of Newsette on community development endeavors of the University. It identifies salient points in illuminating messages which are revealing of the social and cultural representations on community services in the University. More importantly, the results provide building material for opinion and explanation of the impression, acceptance and participation of Lasallians towards community extension services
A study on Philippine monetary and banking policies
During the past few decades, control over monetary and financial market policies was usec
by governments in most developing countries as an important tool in their development strategies.
To accelerate industrialization under an import substitution strategy, many countries including the
Philippines intervened pervasively in their financial markets through selective creditpolicies, interest
rate controls, fiscal or tax incentives and overvaluation of the currency. A few, such as South Korea
and Singapore, attempted early on to integrate their economies with international markets through an
export-based strategy. Most developing countries believed that without interventions in their
financial markets, financial institutions would continue to service only the most capitalized sectors,
neglecting the rural and other sectors considered to be at the forefront of development
A Poincar\'e-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for generalized color Lie algebras
A proof of Poincar\'e-Birkhoff-Witt theorem is given for a class of
generalized Lie algebras closely related to the Gurevich S-Lie algebras. As
concrete examples, we construct the positive (negative) parts of the quantized
universal enveloping algebras of type A_n and M_{p,q,e}(n,K), which is a
non-standard quantum deformation of GL(n). In particular, we get, for both
algebras, a unified proof of the Poincar\'e-Birkhoff-Witt theorem and we show
that they are genuine universal enveloping algebras of certain generalized Lie
algebras.Comment: 19 pages, AMSLaTeX, 9 figures. In this version there are some

A Study of Philippine Monetary and Banking Policies
This study assesses the Philippine monetary and banking policies with the view of identifying preferred policy options and features of a monetary and banking policy program supportive of overall economic growth and agro-industrial development. It describes the following: the impact of existing monetary and banking policy on short- and long-term economic development and the legislative and administrative measures required to adopt and implement such a monetary and banking policy. It also identifies the general features of monetary and banking policy supportive of agro-industrial development.banking system, monetary policy
